So I've been seeing a lot of gameplay of Rebirth. Never played the Binding of Isaac, though it looks really fucking cool. When I buy it, what should I expect as a total newbie?

Isaac is a very easy game to pick up, but the real fun comes from trying to master it. I'd say Isaac is a game that's best played, not explained. So go in there headfirst for a bit, see how you do and then start looking shit up :v:

Epic Fetus is gated behind a challenge centered around familiars and not the challenge centered around Fetus in a Jar. Weird decision but I'm not complaining. Can confirm that Epic Fetus is as OP as it ever was and more. Regular fetus needs a damage buff or something, it's pathetic when you compare it to Brimstone, Technology, Ipecac, and every other tear transformation.

Also Ipecac + Ring worm is actually pretty good, dare I say better than the regular Ipecac?

The challenges are a bit random.
Solar system was a fun challenge, even if it got a bit frustrating by the time I got into the womb. Most of the enemies did fast attacks and didn't allow much time to stay still. Got it on my first try though. Now, tech savvy (or what was it called) is not really a challenge.. You just go around wrecking around in almost godmode, it was fun though.

Looks like the patch nerfed Gurglings, they only leave a blood trail when charging now. And they seem to have a lot less health when encountered outside of the bossroom.

I never had a problem with gurglings and dingle only took me like two tries to get used to his patterns.

They can walk during that part of the attack. I'm assuming it's intentional and won't get patched.
Man, every run I've had as azazel has given me the best drops nothing like triple shot + infestation shot giving me an entourage of about 50 spiders by the time I got to mom
i got a room with mom's hands. about 5 of them. with the room being filled with retracting spikes. My entire run, cut short because of the shittiest combo of enemies and terrain
So I did all the steps to unlock [sp]The Lost[/sp] and it didn't unlock. Are there any prerequisites?
did you die at all in between runs?
just got a red chest in the devil room that tp'd me to the devil room

Are there any prerequisites?[/QUOTE] You cannot use a seed on the final run because that blocks achievements, You have to die after the fallen but before the feet stomp, and you can only die to moms foot, not her body, hands, or monsters that were spawned. Other then that you should unlock it.

I reset my non-seeded run multiple times as Azazel to get a good start but I read somewhere that you could do that without messing it up? I must have screwed up somewhere, now to try it all again :suicide:
I still dislike the mechanic behind Polaroid/Negative being necessary for Chest/Dark Room. Yeah I get that they're a forced-spawn [i]and[/i] you get to pick your flavor when you defeat mom [i]and[/i] they no longer hog the trinket slot, but they still have a soured dissonance from the rest of the game. The entirety of the game unlocks are still gated in the way everything has been: unlock it once, play with it forever. The only acceptable exception is Eden, but that's specifically so players can't spam restarts until they get a good dice roll to start out. Meanwhile, you [i]require[/i] the Polaroid/Negative to reach the endgame floors. This wouldn't be much of a problem if not for a few things: Mom is forced to spawn the items on pedestals. This denies players of 1 boss item that they would have previously gotten in the first game when the Polaroid spawned as a trinket beside the pedestal. It's easy to accidentally pick up the wrong one. If you're in the middle of a fight, you tend to not be wary of where you're standing when you're so focused on not dying. This can lead to unintentionally picking up the photo opposite of your destination. There's a mercy for the trapdoor so you don't walk down it by accident, why is an item that's essential to progression not treated similarly? Sequence breaking with We Need to Go Deeper. Players intending to speedrun the game are forced through the Mom and It Lives fights if they want to speed their way to the Chest. If they want to speed their way to Dark Room, they only need to fight Mom. If someone wants to be a maverick going that fast and ignoring item upgrades, let them be mavericks instead of forcing them to slow down. Telepills. If you get sent to the I AM ERROR room on Depths/Necropolis II/XL, you're fucked out of these essential pickups unless you find a second Telepills inside the room so you can escape. Dice Rooms and D100. If your Polaroid/Negative is rerolled then your entire run is in the toilet since you're not going anywhere near the end-game. The Polaroid's always been handled ham-handedly. All it required was a 1-time unlock and then leave it so players can tackle it on subsequent runs. Literally nothing else in the entire game is gated in such a manner and it's obnoxious. We just aren't bothered, for the most part, because we're happy that it's no longer as bullshit as it used to be. Hell, the Chest isn't even considered a secret anymore, the game writes it out in plain text for you as you progress normally. Ed could've kept it "secret" for new players to discover as they progress. The Fortune Tellers don't even tell you to "Bring him the photo" anymore.
