At first I didn´t like it too much and preferred the old one, but after looking at the new design more I´m starting to prefer retro style isaac.
Opposite for me. I thought the design looked neat at first but the more I saw it in action, the less I liked it.
I think I like both changes. It's good to mix things up every once in a while. I haven't heard all the music but I'm sure once I get used to it, I'll be fine.
Would be great if they released Mewgenics already.
Would be great if they released anything.
Well, i'm not really into meat boy, so i wouldn't care if they're releasing another one of those. But pretty much anything else
How did I miss all this ffs. James Id, the guy that's making the Rebirth trailer (as well as all the previous BOI trailers) has been tweeting his progress for awhile now and as of 4 days ago the trailer is "nearly finished". Edmund said we'd get the trailer on a monday as soon as it was finished, so that'd mean either today or next week then i guess.

Edit: oops I thought it was new, sorry
No trailer today. Guppy item instead, in remembrance of Guppy.
wearing his collar grants the user a 50% chance of coming back to life at half a heart in the previous room.
Analysis time.
We've seen this item before, it appeared as a Devil Room item aside what is presumed to be a demon variant of Bum Friend. Nothing too out of the ordinary as Guppy items have been in the devil pool for quite some time. It being one of the potential items needed to become Guppy leads me to believe that we now can combine any 3 of the 6 Guppy items to become Guppy: Dead Cat, Guppy's Head, Guppy's Paw, Guppy's Tail, and now Guppy's Hairball and Guppy's Collar. Who knows if there are even more Guppy items in the mix that we've yet to see.
As far as strategies with the item go it's an awkward mix of Cursed Skull and Dead Cat. Cursed Skull is mostly useless so having similarities doesn't really help the Collar's usefulness. Guppy's Collar gives the same sort of relief, at a 50% chance. That chance is probable to be affected by the character's luck stat, which would mean that Cain picking up Guppy's Collar could be nearly 100% chance to respawn, or 50% it depends on whether they tie the stat into the item's activation rate. Exploiting respawns to farm rooms for drops and bosses for items is doable with this but incredibly risky as it rests on a coinflip. The reward is significantly higher than Dead Cat respawns as it won't reduce your heart containers to 1. There's potential synergy with Dead Cat if deaths are rolled with the Collar before the Dead Cat, effectively allowing Dead Cat's consistent suicide exploiting with the benefit of not reducing one's heart containers.
Nicalis tweeted a (mostly) direct comparison pic between the two games
i really hope that death animation is just for that item
It's a general death animation. I do however acknowledge the merit of the old "explode into a bloodcloud" animation that Flash Isaac has.
Flash Isaac's death animation has what could be compared to hitstop or hitpause in a fighting game. The game basically pauses momentarily to emphasize that fatal blow.
The Rebirth animation has him immediately hitting the deck, whereas the Flash animation has him quiver for a split second before exploding. Giving that hitpause when Isaac is reaching for his face could give that same sort of satisfying feeling that the original death animation had. It's not like you respawn in the same room, so the animation itself being a bit longer shouldn't really be impacting the run unless you're trying to speedrun it with extra life items.
it has an amazing death animation that really lets you know you fucked up
everything pauses, the screen darkens, a beam of light, then BANG isaac explodes into a fine mist
the new one is just kinda "oh, guess you died"
Regarding those polish things, try to get a hold of Tyrone since he's in charge of most of the work being done, Ed's just overseeing everything and I doubt he'd be opposed to things that make certain actions more satisfying or significant when they should be satisfying or significant. Rattling on about it here won't do much sadly.

It´s a reference of the cry pose Isaac typically does, something Flash Isaac never showed ingame unless you fight Isaac or ???.
I like the new death animation. Isaac falling to the ground and sobbing out his final breath just seems a lot more powerful then exploding.
The only problem with doing a death animation like that and not the flash version one is that Isaac doesn't fall over opposite the direction he got hit in. Like in that gif he gets hit from the left and falls over to the right and it looks fine, but then the second time he gets hit on the right and falls over in the same direction and it looks like crap.
oh hey there's a thread for this, I was looking for one a while back but didn't find one - isaac is one of my favourite games
dunno if any of you guys have been playing the remix mod, but I made the official trailer for it and the mod is super cool :v:
I really would like a Loki option this time around, like what community remix did.
I know he is a boss but so is ??? and Isaac himself, so I don´t see the problem with having Loki playable.
According to the schedule, Rebirth will be on this stream at 11am PST
http://www.twitch.tv/twitch
And if anyone here is interested, there's also Team Meat's new game 'A Voyeur for September' on at 4:30pm PST
AKA Super Meat Boy Forever.
Bunch of new stuff shown on the PAX Prime stream, can't wait for the breakdown and analysis by various members in the community
I just watched the stream,so what does the bar of gold(or mida's touch) do exactly?
Give more money when you kill enemies?
Looks like it works more like poison touch, but with the bonus that if you manage to kill an enemy with the touch, it drops money.
If you missed it or want to rewatch it, someone uploaded the gameplay to Youtube, only 480p though unfortunately

Just got off work and watched the video, time to rev up the overanalysis machine.
Meat Boy Baby for Player 2. Can't really tell what effect it has on the gameplay.
Player 2 cannot leave the room, only Player 1 can do that in order to bring both players along.
Ball of Tar: Leave a trail of goop like Gish does and a chance to fire tar-shots that slow enemies.
Slowing effect is now indicated by a snail icon above the afflicted target's head
Spikes deal a full heart of damage instead of a half heart.
New trite-like enemy that scurries along the floor instead of leaping. May just be the trite got redesigned to be like the small spiders instead of hoppers.
Larry Jr. seems to be unaffected by slowing status effects unless it hits his head but otherwise ignores the floorgoop from Ball of Tar.
Larry Jr. still can go through solid rocks :I
New fade-in/out when transitioning floors.
P2 always takes the right-most heart container from Isaac when dropping in (even if the heart container is only half full). Priority goes Black>Soul>Eternal>Red. Presumed that P2 will increase their health capacity if they swipe an eternal heart and last to the next floor.
Clotty hop in place when they attack to make them into easier targets instead of scooting all over.
R U a Wizard pill. Makes Isaac's eyes wide-set and will have tears firing off in 45 degree angles instead of straight ahead. Of course alternating between each eye. Doesn't seem to have an effect on Player 2. Although P2 might inherit the effect if they drop in after Isaac has taken the pill. Effect seems to wear off after a timer expires.
Spike/Sacrifice room gets a more dungeon-like design instead of a blood-spattered one.
P2's health gets lazily displaced below the boss's healthbar. :I
Defeating Monstro (or simply clearing Basement, it's unclear) unlocks Monstro's Tooth instead of killing all Basement bosses.
Old Bandage. A simple health up.
New enemy type that hugs walls. Periodically stops and spews a volley of 3 tears forward, they do not aim at Isaac.
Keys actually go into keyholes when used.
Picking up <3 does not refill P2's heart container. Although dropping out, picking up, then dropping back in will do so.
New enemy type. Basically a Gaper that leaves behind a damaging trail similar to Super Lust.
New enemy type. Big and slow, farts in an AoE attack.
New enemy type. Floats around like a boom fly and attacks in a 6-directional blood shot.
Pits can randomly be filled with water instead. May or may not impact being able to blast rocks into makeshift bridges, Tyrone didn't want to say.
Headless enemy type. Basically it's a headless gaper that shoots 2 more blood tears.
Having lost a second baby unlocked Maggie and The Tank and Cursed challenges.
Heart baby dropped hearts upon death. Seems to carry over to Isaac as well, as hearts began to drop randomly upon taking damage.
Magic Mushroom now a boss room item.
Arcade seems to spawn with 3 beggars and 2 blood donation machines. Potential to have different contents each visit.
Key-requesting beggar.
Hook Worm trinket. Tears go zip zoop zoobity bop Bill Cosby-style. They travel in a square zigzag and no longer inherit perpendicular momentum when fired.
E Coli has been seen before. Upon touching an enemy, Isaac will drop a turd.
New torso-less enemy type. Wanders randomly and leaves a blood trail.
New enemy type. Basically a mixture of headless Gaper and Host. Randomly walks around invincible until it attacks in a spread shot, at which point it is vulnerable.
Zombaby dies before we get to see what he does.
Wizard Baby seems to fire as if permanently affected by R U a Wizard.
Either clearing Caves or defeating Chub unlocks Lil Chubby. Conditions are unclear.
"Demon" Baby. Seems to have huge but slow tears. Appears to be doing lots of damage.
Larry Jr. alt. Segments turn into chargers upon death similar to one of the Hollow forms or Fistula. Will charge at you like Chub if you're in front of him. Destroying the head will instakill the rest of the segments.
Fez Baby died immediately...probably high damage like Judas.
Magic Baby has homing tears.
There are champion variants of invulnerable enemies such as the spitters.
Retracting spikes as a floor obstacle. Maybe with variants that do more than operate on timers, given Nicalis' involvement in 1001 spikes this seems plausible.
Angry Dingle spawned in Depths. 6-way attack like Clots instead of like the Dingle we saw in the Danielle&Ed video, still spawns Dips. Angry Dingle explodes into a couple Fast little dingles that charge around like Gurdy Jr. They explode into Dips on death.
Midas' Touch. Touch death get money.
Somebody stop me.
I haven't even begun on how to use these things strategically.
Already touched upon how I think P2 having an eternal heart may work. Would be easy to cheese a safe eternal heart by having the P2 baby just floating safely over some rocks as much as you can then have them drop out so it goes back to P1 before going down the trapdoor.
RUaWizard seems pretty useless but I'm excited about its synergy with other items. And of course for Cain it'll just be silly effect. Expect there to be an item that does the same thing as the pill.
Whichever item is causing hits to spawn hearts is going to get exploited like hell by Eve and anyone in the arcade. It might actually be the bandage's doing but I can't really be certain.
To heal P2 just have them drop out, heal Isaac, then have P2 drop back in (as long as you don't mind them taking black/soul/eternal hearts).
Arcade is gonna get exploited if the invuln period after being hurt is just long enough to snare the blood donation machine and the demon beggar in one pass.
Hook Worm seems more trouble than it's worth, the zigzag causes tears to slam into walls or knock enemies sideways instead of backward. Seems to be more of a fun novelty trinket than anything to be exploited.
E Coli, and The Poop by extension, allow for tactical poops where you set up a wall of poop to take cover from enemy shots, or just block them from charging you. Won't do much good against Larry Jr. and his alts, flying/jumping enemies, and anything that explodes. Use with a self-damaging item to have on-demand unlimited-use Poop + whatever benefit the self-damaging item grants. Maybe even find items in these poops or a rare chance of getting golden poop, the possibilities are untapped.
Midas's Touch is going to be obvious to exploit. Especially when paired with invuln items such as Polaroid or Book of Shadows. Basically the same way to exploit as Poison Touch.
With arcades, Devil deals should be easier to acquire if killing a beggar still contributes to that chance. Just kill the key beggar and go to town on the others.
Much smarter idea to let P2 take soul/black hearts from Isaac as when P2 dies the heart container is lost forever, and soul/black hearts are there to be lost anyway. It's a much bigger deal to lose heart containers as they are the fuel for devil deals.
Magic Mushroom, Pentagram, Blood Clot all in boss pool. Rebirth is going to have more higher-damage runs than Flash Isaac with the smallest/most-common drop pool in the game featuring more damage-up items.
[editline]30th August 2014[/editline]
Also I noticed a weird little icon on the dream sequence screen and needed to do a double-take. Seems to be a stopwatch. Ed did make a mention of rewarding players who go fast instead of punishing player that go slow, so this could serve as the time to beat in order to unlock some sequence or item.
Having lost a second baby unlocked Maggie and The Tank and Cursed challenges.
I found this a bit odd when I saw it, that's a bit weird for an unlock requirement, don't you think?
I'm fairly sure that was a mere coincidence, if you pay attention during the Gurdy fight, Isaac initially had 5 heart containers and used the Strength card, giving him one more. Then when the baby died, its heart container returned to Isaac. Guess what happens in the original Binding of Isaac when you have 7 or more heart containers.
Which also invalidates this:

The heart container just returns to Isaac, where did you see that it was lost forever?

Ed stated that he wanted to change up the unlock requirements. Character unlocks are no exception. There's nothing set in stone yet.
Oh right, containers are returned. It's kinda difficult to see it on the screen. The entire game is way too dingy now. The flash game clearly separated the game from the HUD with no question about it. Even if the two overlapped, the visuals were crisp enough that there'd be no question about what is what. Rebirth has the two overlapping and the dark HUD elements blending with the dark scenery.
I was totally okay with the pixel-art thing until the Magic Mushroom came into play. Ugh.
Chub doesn't have perfectly beautiful teeth anymore.
Retro pixel art is something that needs to die. No matter how hard they tried, it looks much, MUCH worse than a rush job in flash. ( aka. The original BoI)
would of been great if they got someone like paul robertson to do it
that man is a fucking wizard
