Isaac on the Vita, excellent. Looks like I might finally be picking one up this year.
I ranted about the Slot Machine before, but I fucking hate how there's no reliable method to drain your cash. Slot Machines and the Skull game are far too time consuming then they're worth, especially if you have 99 cents. I'd suggest adding a machine that takes large amounts (10+) of coins for a garunteed trinket with x% item chance or something, or add a Lategame, Cathedral/Hell shop that's expensive.
Edmund did state that Rebirth will have shops that have more-pricey items in them. I don't recall how high they'd get, all I recall is that there'd be 20 cent items.
Of course, this doesn't help in the endgame stretch from Womb/Utero and beyond where you may find an arcade or standalone fortune teller or slot machine.
Perhaps that Money=Power should spawn more often depending on how much cash you've got.
Of course, having more-expensive shops doesn't help at all if Greed and Super Greed are in every single one. Their spawn rate need to get axed big time.
I had no idea that anyone bought a Vita
There are about 3 people who bought one, I'm just waiting for a price drop so I can pick it up for Persona 4: Golden and a few other games. I'm also hoping that by then we'll see some 3rd party memory sticks as well.

Greed is the reason I usually have over 50c on my runs due to me not wanting to risk running into him at the shops.
Honestly any money I lose from Greed I usually earn back from everything he drops after he dies
Come on isaac for android!
I wonder why this game isn't on linux yet. Looks like they didn't even bother trying.
So having a bad ??? run. Then the game decides to throw Nail, Nun's Habit, Polaroid, and Mom's Knife at me.
It's as if the game went "It looks like you're about to ragequit. Fuck you, stay in that chair and finish this playthrough."
One of the few runs where I actually abused the hell out of the Blood Donation Machines as ???

This time Nuffle cares for your shenanigans, so he rolled a few "natural 20s" and threw you a frikken' bone there.
Bomb it out of the way next time
With 1 bomb, there's no way I'd be able to move it far enough.
And that's assuming that the path I choose is the correct one, if I choose the wrong path, I need to go through that room again when I'm backtracking.
I don't have bombs growing out of my ears, man.

Care to elaborate?
The Nail gives you one soul heart upon use. The Habit recharges half of your current space item every time you recieve any damage. The polaroid gives you temporary invincibility whenever your health is below half a heart (and ???? always has less than half a heart). So first when he runs into the blood machine he recieves temporary immunity which makes it so he can run into it several more times without taking damage but still getting coins. Then when he takes another half of damage completely losing one heart, the habit completely recharges the nail, and he can restore the soulheart. Thus he can endlessly exploit the blood donation machine for money until it explodes into an item.
You could have bombed it downwards and had enough room to pass it
If the tick was possible to swap for other trinkets like every other one in the game, this entire situation would be laughable and all misfortunes that resulted due to being forcibly given the tick would be moot, but no, it's got to be accurate to the real insect.
Going to try to beat the game my first time tonight, streaming.

Rather than being punished for picking it up, you should be rewarded for however long you keep it, with its effects strengthening over every consecutive floor it remains in your inventory.

I hope he takes that kind of attitude when designing that thing that's "to encourage finishing floors faster"
Positive reinforcement for taking risks instead of negative reinforcement for not taking risks.
Spelunky had this twofold. The ghost spawns when 2:30 realtime has passed without you completing a level. The Ghost could instakill you, but you could lure the Ghost into turning gems into diamonds, which is an acceptable risk/reward payoff.
There's a negative reinforcement to work quickly. However, this becomes positive reinforcement when you take into account the reward for the risk.
The closest parallel in Isaac is the items that benefit you when you're at low health, or when you take damage. There's already enough negative reinforcement involved due to the risk incorporated into it. It's the reward that pays off.
It'd be backwards for Edmund to add an item that punishes the player when they're at low health. Non-item game mechanics shouldn't either. Gutting every room is a risk, as it's more opportunities to get hit, the reward is the drops you get from them. Making a beeline for the boss is a risk, as you'll be underequipped for the future, the reward should reflect this in the form of a more-likely Devil room or the like.
The Persona series of games (well 3 and 4) had something for situations like players remaining in the same area for an extended amount of time. If you stay on one floor of a dungeon too long in the game, then an INCREDIBLY hard special boss will appear on that floor called "The Reaper." While Persona 3 had almost no rewards for beating him, Persona 4 changed this by giving the player some of the strongest items in the game for defeating him.
So you could have something like this happen in Isaac when the conditions are met, an incredibly tough enemy that will hunt you down, but if you defeat it, then you're rewarded with a really great item or loot, better than what any of the other bosses or mini-bosses drop on defeat.
If you're not up to it though then that's your cue to get the hell off that floor as fast as possible.
Well, Isaac floors already are a pretty sizeable timesink, especially when there's an arcade involved. Hell, you might just be unlucky and not find the boss room until last.
Edmund said he had no intention of changing the length of the game on a large scale, only a little.
If any sort of reward is going to happen, it'll probably be for going fast to the boss. Which is still a gamble in itself unless you have the compass.
Also they REALLY need to fix how keys can just be taken from your inventory if you spawn too close to a door in the starting room of a new floor.
What the fuck are people doing in floors anyway, I just go find the upgrade room, go find the mini-boss, and go to the real boss. I may stop at the devil room if I found it, but usually no. I spend like 5 minutes a floor.

What if there's a tinted rock and you don't have any bombs? Or you need a few more cents to buy a good item in the shop? Or you're out of keys and want to visit the shop/item room/library? What if you want to increase your odds of winning by spending some money in the arcade?
Exploring is rewarding, and doing it has turned many of my crappy runs into good runs.
Quite the opposite for me.
Exploring almost always gets me killed, running into a room filled with stupidass greed heads or thin ledges with chargers
Or thin ledges with mullibooms
[editline]25th March 2013[/editline]
Or a cramped room with masks
FUCK MASKS
I think the D6 really shows how mediocre some weapons and items are, there are some that you would otherwise never take if you had the option, a waste of a treasure room, that you'd instantly roll if you had the ability to. Some aren't even really situational, as they become useless even halfway through the game. E.G. Every single 'companion' item other than the one that slows and Meat Boy
Hey whoa whoa whoa slow down, what?
I think he's calling Forever Alone, Distant Admiration, Little Steven, Harlequin Baby, Brother Bobby, Sister Maggy, Ghost Baby, Rainbow Baby, Robo-Baby, Demon Baby, ???'s Soul, Isaac's Head, and the like useless.
Extra damage is extra damage, especially since damage upgrades aren't too common to come by without sacrificing some of your max health. Sure, some of the effects are mediocre, but you take what you can get when you're scrounging for resources and stat-padding items.
To boot, extra tears means more knockback. This will save your ass more often than you realize when pushing enemies away as you're desperately backing away from them. To truly appreciate knockback, play a game where you start off with Cupid's Arrow. Piercing shots don't knock enemies back, it's especially noticeable when playing as Maggie, as you'll start out slower.
And the tear-altering effects such as Mom's Knife, Brimstone, Dr. Fetus, etc all benefit far far more from having a host of familiars around, as they give you a ranged form of damage while you're charging up or trying to avoid damaging yourself in the process. Demon Baby is a godsend when you have Fetus in a Jar.
I was pretty determined to get Platinum God in the game, even when my runs to beat ??? in The Chest succeeded but ended up giving me another character's item (ex. I got ???'s Soul from beating it with Maggy and a couple other things like that, not necessarily a bad thing but still it was kind of a 'what the fuck' thing) I still wanted to carry on, but now that I know Rebirth is coming out I just kind of gave up. There isn't much of a point in doing that if the game is going to come out again.

little steve, second level meatboy, and robot baby have proven to be way useful for me.
just yesterday I beat the chest with judas thanks having halo of flies and a second level meatboy, half the tears coming at me were blocked
While I agree the companions are for the most part not fantastically good items, I do still find most of them very useful.
Harleyquinn, Level 2 meat boy, Little Steve, Sister Maggy and Demon baby can be very nice if you have maxed out shot speed, as they all deal decent damage and will then be adding onto your stream of tears. Really, combine max tears, cancer, and any of these companions an you basically have a tear minigun. They can in general be considered a damage boost.
Little Chad and The Relic are both very good for keeping your health up, especially the relic which is invaluable if you're playing ????. They're both definitely more useful than for example The Vampire. The Coin/Bomb sacks are also very useful, for obvious reasons.
The Cube of Meat and Pretty Fly/Halo of Flies is a bit "meh", I admit. However they occasionally block enemy shots, and very frequently kills flies who get too close. The Guardian Angel is also great because of this, because it greatly increases their rotation speed and therefor the likelihood of them successfully blocking shots fired at you.
Ghost Baby, Abel, and Brother bobby are like the previously mentioned harleyquinn/meat boy/sister maggy/little steven still useful to increase your barrage of tears, but these are less useful than the former mentioned due to dealing less damage.
Robot Baby is awesome because it allows you to keep your own tear effects, while still having the effect of technology. While it's damage is not fantastic, it's still great as an addition to your own damage, and for taking out enemies you can't reach with your tears.
Forever Alone and Attack Fly are near useless, but can occasionally kill some monsters and block some shots.
I do however admit that Peeper and Bum Friend are more harm than use. Peeper does deal decent damage, but it has an annoying as fuck tendency to bump into any bombs you place and either not blow up the thing you intended to, or blow up YOU. Also, Bum friend is just a fucking cunt that steals your money in return for a random item you can find anywhere anyway. Not fucking worth it.

I personally haven't unlocked ????'s soul and Isaac's head so I don't have much personal experience with those
[editline]26th March 2013[/editline]
(I also personally dislike the rainbow baby even though it's kinda useful, because I find it's changing tears to be annoying >.>)
Oh and, holy water also sucks donkey cock
