I hope it is and is kept in Rebirth. It's a small mechanic that makes spikes a worthy risk. There is always a chance you will fuck it up.

Time to pick apart some screenshots. Now, we've known that Edmund wanted a dedicated melee class in Samson but ultimately canned that due to it being incapable of clearing all rooms. That range seems melee-ish enough to pass as a melee-dedicated character. We also know that one of the new characters is supposed to rely entirely on black hearts. And we also know that Ed wanted to tease the remainder of the unlockable characters: of whom we only had Azazel left. Also that's not actually Brimstone, the effect just looks like it. I can only speculate that Azazel is appearing in this particular screengrab. He seems to start with no consumables. Secrets appear to be in a fixed order, so people could easily cross reference which ones they're missing with a completed list that the wiki will inevitably have. New entries to the stats menu appears to be "Best stats." It's too difficult to make out what the words on the right could be. No clue what is new about its pattern other than what appears to be attacking in 4 directions like a gish or clotty. The card in his hand is The World. This one door can be broken down with bombs much like a secret room, but presumably it'd hold some sort of challenge for the player to overcome. It'd be too easy if it had similar loot to a secret room but was so painfully obvious to find. Also, the timer that appears is a further iteration on what we've seen before. However, given how late in the game it is, I have other suspicions. I believe that the timer is actually a countdown. Completing some challenge before the countdown ends should yield some grand reward. Perhaps it has something to do with the barricaded room, we'll find out for sure when the game is released. His item haul consists of Bob's Curse and Guppy's Collar; to anyone wondering what's with the weird red ball or the x1? near his health. Chests appear as a potential spawn, similar to how you may find a single recharge replenisher, or some pills, or an assortment of coins, or a trinket. The secret room seems to be more geared towards being a group of room drops all at once when you find them instead of what we're used to with it being a big money grab. One of the mini-haunts appears to be semi-transparent, implying that they can become invincible to damage either deliberately or after taking damage. A small detail, but it appears that having the burning powerup seen here makes Isaac ignite small floor details, you can see some small flames just above Haunt's body. No secret link this week.

However, something is still amiss if his life indicator is reading as x1 when in reality it shouldn't be showing up at all unless something special is present. That's why it's so out of place, the only analogy we've seen with the life counter reading "1" is with Guppy's Collar because the respawn rate is entirely luck-based for that particular item. And "early image"? The build date is October 12th. Item visuals should be long done at this point in development. We're in the final 3 weeks before release, the only thing that should be focused on is polishing and bugfixes to make sure it's ready for a public debut.
Uh. I was just in a Utero 2 room with two Larry Jr.'s and a Chub. I think one of the Larrys ate Chub's tail, because it was missing when I got a good look at him. He also tried to spawn babies, but nothing popped out when he did the animation. Freaky.
