Good thing people recorded it. Brb picking it apart.
Cool, at 38:15 the secret room entrance closed up to prevent him from exiting the enemy room he walked into. Neat little change. I don't have time to watch the rest of this for awhile though but so far there seems to be a lot of awesome stuff in this playthrough.
Not keen on some of the new sound effects, particularly the more humanoid enemies. They all seem to be a lot less subtle. Like the Mulligan, for example. It used to have a creepy and distorted whimper as it's sound, but now it has an obnoxious and annoying whining sound.
Are there any other videos of the stream? It's either Tyrone whos playing on a potato or the guy recording with a potato. It gets pretty unbearable
Button notifications update based on whether you have a controller plugged in or not. Tyrone is using an XB1 controller up until he switches to keyboard. He does switch back to controller later in the video and shows off the config menu with all the icons on it. Pop ups are explained as the achievement/unlock notifications. You can disable them if you don't want them butting in during a run. Presumably they will show up after the run is over to tell you what you've unlocked. Setting up controls is tap to bind, it's what you should expect from any game but it's nice that it's not the obnoxious scroll setting that some games have. Upon starting a run, one of several images may flash on the screen while it loads. For example, "Are you sure you want me to die?" First run is normal without seeds so unlocks are indeed possible on this new file, but with popups disabled we won't know what unlocks what when he inevitably unlocks something. Starting room still doesn't show you the basic controls, just the basic things you can do. Tyrone quits the run so he can input a seed. Second run is seeded: N1CAL1SY N1CAL1SY isn't a cheat code, as a prompt is supposed to come up when you use one. It might become a cheat code at some point though, so stay vigilant. Returning item: Inner Eye -- Triple shot! Embryos no longer have a boss heathbar when you encounter them separately from the Blastocyst boss. Duke of Flies drops a new item. Match Book -- Evil up! Presumably will give you a higher chance for Devil-related happenings. It also spawns a few bombs for you and gives you 1 black heart. May also make bombs more likely to spawn, but that may just be coincidence. Visually the Match Book sets Isaac's hands on fire. Upon returning to a defeated boss's room, the music will change to a track that seems to be solely for when a trapdoor is available. It seems that the Shop and Library have a map icon now before you enter them. But it only says that it's a locked special room instead of what it is specifically. Helpful if you're on a big map and can't remember where the shop is and which rooms are just rooms with keys in them. New item: 20/20 -- Double shot! Isaac gets a pair of glasses. Tyrone mentions how it wasn't useful, presumably because it makes him fire like Harlequinn Baby, but since he has triple shot already it doesn't seem to do anything. Tyrone loses the Black Heart and it does about 20% of Dingle's healthbar to give you an idea of how much damage it causes when lost. The stream lags like hell so the recording is choppy as hell. Dingle drops a new item: Magic Scab -- HP + Luck up. Isaac gets an unsightly scab from his chin to his eye. Marked rocks are much more subtle this time around. They're still blue-tinged but they actually blend in better. The "flying assholes" are officially called Tumors. New item: Rotten Baby. He fires flies, much like how the Mulligan was intended to work before Ed realized that flies had difficulty hitting enemies that are only vulnerable from a specific side. Rooms with water in them will cast a caustic reflection on the wall. Kinda neat looking. Peep was rebalanced a little. Eye movement seems consistent, pee randomization doesn't seem to make it deviate randomly very far away from him to get unfair hits, and there's less blood on the ground. Peep drops the Belt. Does what its always done. Gauntlet room has a new track. Also he gets the tick. Destroying poop appears to have dropped a trinket that he can't interact with. It's a grayish poop. There's also a new trinket map icon. New enemy type. It's basically a hive that explodes into a trite when killed. More new enemy types. Those walking hosts but are permanently vulnerable. There's also some fat flies but the stream lags too hard to see what they do before they're killed. Gurdy drops a returning item: Box -- Stuff. Does what it has always done. New pill type: 48 Hour Energy! Doesn't seem to actually do anything. Library gives him Telepathy for Dummies and Bible. Nothing out of the ordinary. As expected, the locked icon is replaced with a book icon on the map once he entered the room. Shop doesn't have a donation machine when using a seeded run, as there's nothing to gain by donating since seeded runs don't contribute to overall game progress. Shop also won't have many pedestal items until you donate enough for it to expand. New obstacle type, appears to be based on Death's head, they bounce around like Boom Flies. They die once the room is cleared. New enemy type: Those wall spiders but with a brimstone beam. Sneaking between the corners of 2 spike tiles is still in the game. New trinket: Line worm. Isaac can't interact with it though. Returning item. Pinking Shears. Tyrone's a dork that thinks the Bible is more useful. New shop item, appears to be a portable donation machine but Tyrone buys a key instead. Those wiggly tentacle rock enemies appear again, stream lags too hard to tell what they do other than die. Monstro 2's attack pattern is no longer as easy to exploit. The HUD for consumables overlaps the pause menu and looks kinda dumb like that. Tyrone doesn't seem to want a second 48 hour energy despite its effects not showing. Perhaps it's an effect that takes time to activate. New fat enemy type. They leave behind damaging trails and transform multiple times as they are weaker and weaker. First losing their heads, then their torsos, then dying. Tyrone mentions something about needing enough health to 1-shot Mom with the Bible. Probably full health. We get to see what those ghosts in the trailer do. They phase in and out of existence to attack in a way similar to a small monstro. Being teleported to the secret room will make it so you can exit through any direction instead of being forced out through a single one. New pill type: Lemon Party. A colossal Lemon Mishap, fills half a room easily. Boss gauntlet doesn't necessarily contain a pedestal item every time. Maybe it spawns once you clear the room so you can't cheese your way to free items by teleporting out. Tyrone dies to Monstro 2, for shame. Game over screen doesn't seem to actually put items collected in order. Pressing restart at the game over screen will not give you the same seed if you're playing a seeded run. New item: Mom's Eyeshadow -- Charm tears. We've seen infatuation as a status effect before with the pheremones pill, now we get to see it on an item. Enemies that are charmed can still damage you though. Tyrone turns the flash filter on and then off. Explosive Diarrhea is back. Returning item: Deck of cards. Also the guy in the shop is destroyable with bombs like the ones in the secret rooms. A cursed chest contained 3 kamikaze spiders. Like kamikaze flies, but spiders. Larry Jr. drops Speed Ball, which is now in the boss pool. Death card seems nerfed really hard, as it didn't manage to kill the Dips in the room. Maybe it does % health instead of absolute health now. Pageant Boy is back in the boss pool again. Devil room contained Pentagram and what appears to be a goat's head, I know it looks like Satan too but it's not like debating on what it is means much because Tyrone walks out immediately and can't get back in. All because he was excited about Pageant Boy giving him coins in the other room. Amazing. Orbital flies are light gray to distinguish them from attack flies, black flies, kamikaze flies, and eternal flies. New enemy type: Gurdlings. They leave a damaging trail and attack like chargers. They'll periodically send out a 6-way shot like Gurdy Jr. does. Number One is back, but its description fails to mention that it lowers range. Tsk tsk. New enemy type. 2-headed Maggot. Does what you expect a Maggot with 2 heads to do. However, it can only attack when moving left-right as it's impossible to tell it has 2 heads when it moves vertically. Boss debut: Mega Maw. He spits like Monstro, spawns some spinning fireballs that have a few different patterns, spits hoppers at you. He drops <3, which we've known to be present in the boss pool since the first low-opacity stream. Returning item: Rosary. Arcade is shown off at last. This one spawns with the machines we're so used to as opposed to that strange one we saw at PAX with just beggars and blood donation machines. New enemy type. Just wall spiders that attack in a spread shot instead of 3 rapid shots. That 4-way round worm we saw in a stillframe is seen in motion. Tyrone states that their attacks spiral and will be used more frequently. New boss: Mega Fatty. That didn't take long to see him in non-shit quality. Less than 6 hours between post and stream. He fires a spread shot of shit like Monstro. He then can leap up like Peep and leaves a pool of damaging blood. He can also spawn Dips. He can also vomit into the air to cause a rain of puke droplets. He dropped the wooden spoon, nothing special about it being in the pool again. Tyrone walks into a spike that was right in front of him. RIP There goes 90 minutes of my life.
Destroying poop appears to have dropped a trinket that he can't interact with. It's a grayish poop. There's also a new trinket map icon.
I believe that's petrified poop, which is a trinket that will be in Mew-Genics: http://supermeatboy.com/130/Mew_Genics_Teaser_week_8/#b "Takes less damage, lowers poop rate of all cats" is what it does in the screenshot but apparently mew-genics trinket effects vary to some unknown extent, so who knows what it'll do in this. [editline]21st October 2014[/editline] Also, a pink champion was shown in the live stream at 51:45. Apparently they just constantly fire a bullet in the direction they're facing. [editline]21st October 2014[/editline] Also he totally killed a shop keeper with a bomb at the start of the 2nd run. So I guess you probably can kill secret room people after all. That's rad.
Here's another upload of the BOI stream Tyrone did. Doesn't have the horrid stuttering although the quality isn't quite as good.
tbh I still can't get over the fact that it will be "retro" now, especially when Edmund said it was his vision from the start. Isaac just works in the hand drawn vector graphics style because it looks like a dark and sarcastical cartoon, not another retro-ish game [editline]22nd October 2014[/editline] also globins' new sounds suck. they sound like generic grunting zombies now edit 2: so does the monster spew red projectile sound, its too damn dry [editline]22nd October 2014[/editline]
Monstro 2's attack pattern is no longer as easy to exploit.
what? it felt like it was doing the same he always did in BoI: he jumps a little at the start, then if you're over or under him he will jump, if you're to the side he will fire brimstone
if you keep switching sides he will only fire brimstone, it makes it trivial to dodge OBSERVE https://gfycat.com/BlondConsciousHorsefly recording is a little messed up but w/e, at the end you can see I got him stuck in a pattern, he can't break out of it

Tyrone wasn't doing anything like it tho, we can't tell whether it's still exploitable or not. I don't think it was an exploit in the first place, more like an honest mechanic. Same as learning the correct time to move to avoid Gurdy's shots and make it easy. [editline]22nd October 2014[/editline] triggering enemies into attacking to strike back is like the main tactic against some of the small enemies too.

[editline]22nd October 2014[/editline] triggering enemies into attacking to strike back is like the main tactic against some of the small enemies too.
Here's what I can deduce from what was shown. Monstro II's beam attack stays active for longer. Monstro II only is triggered into using his beam attack if Isaac is in front of him. The few times that Tyrone is behind Monstro II he'll instead leap into the air. So in order to abuse his attack pattern, you need to actively place yourself in harm's way with better timing than if you did so in Flash Isaac. You also can't just circle around him forever. He's Monstro II, he's intended to be a late-game boss that comes before the bait-&-switch final boss, he should be tougher to fight than the first bosses you come across. Just like Scolex, he got touched up in order to make his difficulty match the point in the game you meet him at.
tbh I still can't get over the fact that it will be "retro" now, especially when Edmund said it was his vision from the start. Isaac just works in the hand drawn vector graphics style because it looks like a dark and sarcastical cartoon, not another retro-ish game
I don't mind the pixel graphics at all, I just feel like it was executed in a slightly disappointing way. Pixel art is supposed to give more liberties when it comes to animating, yet many of the animations actually feel lazier this time around, they don't feel as dynamic as in the original game. I mean look at this shit: Don't tell me that's not a lazy ass attack animation. Although the quality of the animation is somewhat irregular. Mega Fatty is excessively wobbly because most of the animation is done by squishing his body and it looks cheap as hell, on the other hand Mega Maw has great animation because he doesn't move at all so most of his animation is done via keyframes. In fact he's surprisingly expressive for what's essentially a severed head with empty eye sockets. And why Mega Maw and Mega Fatty anyway? That's like having Mega Charger and Mega Mask instead of Chub and Mask of Infamy, I'd have expected more creative names. Mostly nitpicking though. I still think the game looks amazing, especially the environments. They really did a great job on that, and it's not something that would have been achievable with Flash. [editline]titties[/editline] Talking about nitpicking...
New enemy type. It's basically a hive that explodes into a trite when killed.
[t]http://media.tumblr.com/97367238d625355dd295ecac41ffd612/tumblr_inline_n3c8hlnGxf1rq0wgw.jpg[/t]
Death card seems nerfed really hard, as it didn't manage to kill the Dips in the room.
Doesn't look like it, it instantly killed everything in the room, including those bigger poop enemies (do they have an official name?), which split into two Dips each. Thank god it wasn't nerfed, imagine how terrible it would be if it did percentage based damage.
New enemy type. 2-headed Maggot.
They do attack when moving vertically though, watch the non-stuttering upload of the stream. Although they do look just like regular Spitters when seen from that angle, hah. Also I think you forgot to mention that sad Larry Jr. alt. Seems to charge at you when you are in its line of sight, much like Chub, and each of its segments spawns a Charger when destroyed. I'm glad we still have no idea what the new Cellar, Catacombs and Necropolis look and sound like though. We've been spoiled quite a lot so far and it's hard to resist the temptation. :v: I hope they have a lot of enemies we haven't seen yet.
I dunno I always stood at Monstro 2's face waiting for him to fire brimstone, moved and shot at him while he was charging another looks like this strategy stays [editline]22nd October 2014[/editline]
And why Mega Maw and Mega Fatty anyway?
that too. every boss in BoI had a special name
Talking about nitpicking... It's much easier to cement things into memory when you see them doing things instead of just a design document. To my credit, they were offscreen when the Death card was used, so it seemed odd that there were Dips still around. My first guess was that it was only effective to onscreen enemies but that seemed like an odd change.
They do attack when moving vertically though, watch the non-stuttering upload of the stream.
Mentioned him last time, didn't think it needed another introduction.
Oh, I must have missed that, my bad then.
Man I love breaking this game. Too bad I crashed before even getting into the mom boss fight.
The gameplay, the new items, new areas, new bosses, new graphics... all look awesome. But I still honestly feel the new music is complete and utter garbage. God I wish Danny B was still in charge of the music, it's so extremely bland and unengaging. [editline]23rd October 2014[/editline] Also new soundeffects for enemies/isaac are shite
Anyone else kind of flustered at the tile design? It's totally off-center. [t]http://i.gyazo.com/668a6f4c7ec3a0dd3756531c1cef25ce.png[/t] [t]http://i.gyazo.com/17c7ba9dbee1d3961f319f0f98044635.png[/t] It's like all the holes were designed unaligned, shifting left and up. Maybe it's just me as an aspiring graphic designer, being anal about details, but I would never let something that inconsistent slip by me. Just looking at it is pissing me off. I hate to sound entitled but this is just too wrong.
The flash filter looks actually better than I thought it would, very nice.
TBH I couldn't tell it from normal, the quality on the video is just too shite
Or it just might be the shitty video quality that makes it looks so good, but still [editline]23rd October 2014[/editline] Fuck automerge
TBH I couldn't tell it from normal, the quality on the video is just too shite
I can clearly see it looking smoother, but it might easily look a lot more fake and cheap ingame. God I wish Danny B was still in charge of the music, it's so extremely bland and unengaging.
Not only the new soundtrack is good, it's better than DannyB's. Suck it, nerd
The game feels a lot more serious this time around, although it still seems to have the sense of humor in how ridiculous it is.
Caves and post-boss music are absolutely amazing. I kinda like the new shop and Depths music as well, they both feel really oppressing and I think that's a good thing. What's absolutely unforgivable however, is the fact that the library doesn't have its own music. God damnit, that was the best one.
what? it felt like it was doing the same he always did in BoI: he jumps a little at the start, then if you're over or under him he will jump, if you're to the side he will fire brimstone
I think it means the brimstone-exploit. When he starts doing his brimstone-attack just get behind him and he'll do it again, get behind him again and he'll keep doing it forever. I use that every single time I fight him and he's not even a real boss for me anymore. :v:
Been looking at the trailer again now that we know mega versions of regular enemies are now a thing. [t]http://vinh.peniscorp.com/2014-10-24_15-00-18.png[/t] [t]http://vinh.peniscorp.com/2014-10-24_15-00-33.png[/t] Mega Host? He seems to have pretty damn nasty attacks as well, looks like he can spawn Leapers and then fire a homing Brimstone beam that goes through all of them. That's going to be potentially pretty hard to avoid.
~10 days to go~
~10 days to go~
I don't know if a count down helps or makes everything worst.
I don't know if a count down helps or makes everything worst.
Just think about what you were doing 10 days ago, and know that from that point until now is how much more you need to wait.
I just played BoI with an N64 controller :v: It works pretty well.
On November 3rd we're livestreaming from the Twin Galaxies studios with Jennifer Zhang. Time is TBD, but check their schedule soon. It'll be most of the team. Edmund will Skype-in for it.
Twin Galaxies is renowned for being record keepers for a variety of games. Dunno if Jennifer is going to be crazy-meticulous or is going to treat it as a casual experience as it's brand new. But hey, some quality footage instead of low-opacity shenanigans.
Found Epic Fetus yesterday and totally could've gotten the last few no damage achievments, but fucked both of them up and only got the Eve/Sheol achievment. What a harrowing feeling. It'll probably never happen again before Rebirth is out and I need some closure :(
