Factions are just difficult to start, once you're there it's fairly easy to be safe. What I would do is have light camps until you've got enough money/people to purchase a chunk, then build a more permanent base to gather materials, and build up from there. Or you can work out protection with another faction until you're on your feet.
The point is, getting started is meant to be a bit difficult and take more than one day. A slow growth. Otherwise in 2 weeks we're going to have multiple god factions and nobody is going to have anything to do.
If you've got a group of people, please take me up on my offer. I need biome materials, and while I'm not going to give out money, I will invest in a group of players if I'm going to get materials in return.
So have you folk started any new factions yet? I've got a pretty good amount of gold and kinda want a way to spend some of it, I also need protection.
I really don't see how discouraging new factions instead of old ones is going to discourage having multiple god factions with nothing to do. It seems like it would only delay the problem, and make it worse in the end because nobody is going to be able to create small, weaker factions, and the only people who will have factions at all are the ones who have loads of players, ie, god factions.

Right, my point is that the existing rules which restrict new factions aren't going to help stop factions from becoming way too big and powerful, they're just making the game less enjoyable for people who want to have a base to themselves or with a single friend.
Anyway, I've got snow blocks and iron a plenty. I'd love to work out a business contract or whatever, but I don't have any members to get an actual faction started. If anybody wants to join a new faction, send me a PM and lemme know. I don't really want to head into town until I'm sure I've got members, because it's a long walk to my settlement from spawn.

I think I'm the exact opposite of everyone's problems, I've found stacks and stacks of surface-level coal and iron, but no gold or diamonds, only Lapis, which is goddamn useless.
This leads me to wonder, actually, by my huge excavations of iron, have I deprived the new players of a valuable resource? shit's deep

You can always sell it for other stuff. Though there's not really any way to easily sell stuff, because there's nowhere for people to make shops at spawn.

where is this server advertised besides here? could be worth putting it on a few more sites (dnno which) so more people start playing
I honestly don't know of many sites. I've got it on our small community, and here. I've got a friend who could stick it on reddit. This is a pretty small thing, many of the people who play on it are from neither community and have only heard about it from others. You're all free to invite friends/other communities. If we get too much traffic, increasing the slots isn't much.

Why pick a german name?
I haven't been on lately, sorry for that. Holidays came up and instead of being completely free I ended up not having much time at all. I'm currently in a risque position with another Faction on the server which I hoped would be settled with somewhat peacefully but it escalated into something way past that. This sh*t becomes a bit harder when you've made enemies. When I can get back on I'll be willing to help/hire/w.e other people and factions. Anyways, for now, good luck I guess. If you have any questions or economic interest just use "/tell <name> <message>" if you see a Rothschild member on and we'll be glad to help in most cases. If they give you a dirty look just tell them to message me about it. I'll be back 100% next year, probably the 1st.

Most of the staff are folks who have been in German classes with me for about 5 years. That's why some of the things on the server have German names and/or a German theme.

They're all people I know in real life and have worked with on multiple servers over the past 6-ish years. We aren't all on all the time, but having a few staff I know and can get in touch with by phone means that if anything goes wrong, I can get someone on the server quick.
Also, keep in mind my whole faction isn't staff, there are only a few OP'ed players who are on every once in a while.

Most of the public works stuff actually comes from you guys. I've been using the items from the shops at spawn. Lot's of my money is disappearing, so hopefully the shops are working and getting cash out into the world.
