Back when LOTRO went free to play...er...what was it, 2011? 2012? I don't know, around a year or two ago. Anyway, when that happened I thought no one would come close to the free to play platter Turbine threw at us, but Trion came around the corner and smacked that platter out of Turbine's hand, yelling 'Now you fucked up!'. I mean, holy cow, this looks like the best F2P transition in the past 5 years. I'll definitely pick up on my warrior that I abandoned in the Defiant Capitol on Wolfsbane about a year ago.
2011 i think, maybe earlier than that actually? That said, i might redownload. the f2p transition looks pretty good.
may I ask how it compares to Guild Wars 2? I mean, GW2 didn't last that long for me. Should I give rift a shot?
Rift is a lot slower from what i remember, little less flashy, and more skills and traditional ala warcraft.
I see, thanks. It's at least better than World of Warcraft I presume? :)
My friend wanted me to play RIFT with him again. So I came back after playing GW2, and now the animations in RIFT make me cringe. It feels like I'm a rigid robot. They're extremely horrible. I don't remember them being this bad.

I'd like to think so. Rift has its own thing going, and so does WoW I suppose. After 2-3 years of WoW, Rift was a breath of fresh air to me. They are each special in their own ways, although presently I'd probably pick Rift over WoW if I decided to hop back into an MMO, could just be from WoW being stale though.

Dunno, I'd pick Rift over GW2 simply because GW2 just dosen't give me the same feel as WoW/Rift. I guess I just like the classic type with a twist, alas Rift. GW2 was fun for a bit, though.

It's like what WoW would be if it had a different art and writing team. Mechanically it's practically identical, the point where several souls are just straight clones of old WoW talent trees.
Also player housing, can't forget dat player housing.
I really hate to point out the obvious, but the Level 1-29 chat is the shittiest chat I've seen in my entire life.
On another note, however, the enemies in the SL continents are hard as hell. Is it because I don't have good SL gear yet?

Could be that, or you might not be specced properly.

On another note, I had a pleasant amount of platinum waiting for me when I logged in the other day, I must have done some serious crafting rift grinding to have that much at my current level. Epoch plaza seems to be able to handle more people with less lag these days, although the screenshot makes it look barren rest assured that it's only because I had just loaded in and players were not loaded yet, the place was booming with activity.
So no auction house? that sucks, I used to craft & sell alot.
May I be added to the FP players list?

If you pay for credits to get the loyalty required for AH rights you can use the credits for a bonus item.
If you have enough plat you can just buy REXs and gain your loyalty that way.
I didn't really expect to get anything out of the Silverwood/Freemarch event going on right now but to my surprise I got a cape (Defiant unfortunately, but I could always give it to an alt) and this little bugger:

It must be the gear then. I can kill any non-SL enemies easily with any of my roles minus my Chloro role.

A fine feast the people of meridian have made celebrating my turning of level 50
I play on Zaviel, got multiple characters, Flanagan, Flananagan, and Flanananagan.
Not even joking.
Ok, so I'm downloading Rift as of the moment, what's a good server to start in? I want a server that's not too populated and hopefully doesn't get full at peak hours but just about enough for me to experience all of the content with other players. Suggestions?

If you make a character on Wolfsbane (US Server), once you hit level 10 I'll do some instant adventures with you
Question for those that played Vanilla WoW. I have the choice between going over to a Vanilla 1.12 private shard or playing RIFT. Which one would you guys recommend? I'm not big on raiding or PVE content.
I'm a level 16 DPS Cleric (shepyard) on Seastone. It is quite a bit of fun and I am actively encouraging my friends to come try the game.

Rift, if by what you said implies you're into PVP then Rift is by far a better choice. PvE and Raiding, its about the same, just more dynamic and in depth.
Goddamn, I can't believe people STILL play World of Warcraft after playing RIFT.

Level 11 Tanky Riftblade/Champion (Necrious on Seastone)
If you haven't already as a mage, make a healing role. You will have a better chance of getting into dungeons when you can queue as DPS, Support, and Healer.
So I started playing and I'm hooked. I'm now a Level 23 Destroyer on Laethys. Name is Cordi. Damn it, haven't had this much fun in a while. it's true, the PvE and World Events are much more dynamic in Rift. I have a lot of fun just doing the events and the dungeon content while leveling.
Started doing my first instances today and my friends healer. This game is certainly fun and definitely quenches my MMO thirst.
This thread has gone a lot better than I expected..
Hopefully ill get my warrior to 60 not long after I get back from my trip.
Just downloaded and started a rogue hunter.
Quick question about macros. I can tell I'm going to get sick of pressing 1 over and over and over until my combos are full, then casting Head Shot, then spamming 1 again. Is there a way to cast a skill 4 or 5 times in a row, followed by casting another skill?

There is but I don't know the particular code for them. Try the rift forums, unless someone else here knows how.
