Why else would the lotus wake them.
I just believe the lotus was just some AI/augmented human intelligence which was just used by the corpus for paperwork and stuff, until she became conscious and noticed how tenno were just being sold as objects. Then she broke out, woke the tenno up and now has an army to kill everything she wants.
Or you can just overthink the lore and start theories that everything is hiveminded and pretty much everyone have no free will whatsoever other than the ones who are controlling them.
Lotus is probably one of the sentients and using her old enemy for her own goals. Grineer and Corpus are paying them to do the missions their own soldiers can't do.
Tenno get such a small reward at the end of a mission because Lotus is their pimp and takes most of the money
There is also a theory that grineer and corpus were descendants from the sentients and that the orokin were basically nazis.
I like this theory more, but it doesn't explain who the infested are. In fact, there is quite little lore on them other than that it is a virus which eat things and reproduce by itself made by the orokin. Most of the hivemind theories simply comes by the fact that there was a faction called the "sentience" and that people believe space zombies are hiveminded because that's what all the space zombies are everywhere else.

i think they're probably paid in credits that the rest of solar system doesn't use, so they're kind of like functionally worthless Lotus-Land Funbucks or something - the credits you find on missions is just their equivalent worth in the money that everyone else uses, which you turn in after the mission's completed in exchange for worthless credits. i mean, the Tenno aren't gonna know any better when their nine-to-five is decapitating people and admiring koi fish in their metaphysical ivory space-basements, so the Lotus can pretty much steal everything they own while killing all the merchants and law enforcement who could possibly oppose her.
so really when you think about it that way, the whole thing is pretty much just a crazy-ass pyramid scheme involving silly hats and violently dismembering dudes for fun and meaningless profit. such is life in space.

Exactly. As in more than one consciousness, meaning that they must be the only faction that is not hiveminded in a lot of lore miners' eyes.

It's the fun of an open story; you are given a million questions and can play around with theories and discuss them with other people.
Much better than games that explains literally everything and just creates a million plotholes in the process.
A good combination of the two must be bioshock infinite, which keeps an open story, creating more and more questions until it explains itself perfectly in the end while including a bunch of questions which can still be answered with a observant eye and some theory crafting.
Still, I hope warframe keeps the mysterious style it has. I love reading people's theories and discussing a topic without a specific answer. It's at least way more fun than visiting MD or SH and reading everyone glue wings to their opinions in order to prove it is better than everyone else's.
