It's a weapon, it needs to make sense as a weapon. This isn't entirely subjective since there is logic involved in designing things that are supposed to function.
There is a fart gas launcher. I don't think a lot of things in this game make sense.

That's not what i'm talking about or i'd be playing only modern military shooters. The Torid actually has a design that makes sense, we don't know how the fart grenades work exactly but it actually looks like something a human being would be able to use, and even thought it's a lunchbox there's nothing really ridiculous that would stand out as impractical at first glance.
The flux rifle on the other hand, i'm not sure how someone would use that, you're holding it from way back, there's this huge weight on the front for no reason at all, the grip is ridiculously tiny and for some reason, the corpus made a weapon triggered by a flip switch, the corpus. So why should i call this thing a weapon instead of a portable microwave ? The torid might look like a lunchbox but it doesn't look horribly flawed.
It might be sci-fi and i might not like the style, but making something that looks doable is part of a good weapon design.

Yeah the Spectra is supposed to be a mining tool. Flux Rifle is literally the same thing, a bigger mining tool.
Anyways, it's a fucking weapon model. There are plenty of other things in the game that need to be improved upon, a weapon model that isn't realistically proportioned is at the bottom of the priority barrel.

Perhaps the switch is a flip one because normally, as a construction tool, it functions continually but at lower power, while as a weapon it's outputting more power and because of that it can only fire long interrupted bolts (because of overheating/capacitor charging/whatever)
So, it makes sense in context

For what it's worth, it's a continuous beam weapon. Having a toggle switch might make more sense than a normal trigger.

Right because, being set thousands of years in the future where you can fire bolts of pure heated Plasma and such isn't entirely outlandish, You can have the fart gun and a rocket launcher half the size of your arm building suits that amp abilities and defie all sense of physics and so on, whilst fighting 3 separate races in a story-line that hasn't been done before is entirely plausible.
But having a little toggle switch to turn on a BEAM...is suddenly too far?
