They're both not worth using, so don't worry about whether or not one's a good alternative or not because either way its gonna be crap. You're better off holding off on either until you can afford to build a better weapon.
Go Orthos. It's very VERY good and easy to build. The only annoying part is the morphics requirement, and its not like morphics are hard to come by. And seeing as you were mentioning the glaive, if you're looking for a throwing melee weapon, the kestrel is just better. Though I believe I've heard there's going to be a glaive rework in the future.

I'm not, really, i'm just looking for upgrades in general. Glaive was just something i got as a login reward, i didn't intentionally seek it out.
Krestal is better because it knocks down. I don't know if it still doesn't do Serrated Blade on the charge attack yet, but knocking down stuff vs doing moderately more damage makes krestel much better.

Your warframes, weapons and sentinels each have their individual ranks capped at 30, and for your account there's a persistent mastery rank, which leveling up your gear adds to, and if you sell a weapon with any levels in it and then buy the weapon again, while you level it up it won't contribute to your mastery rank until it reaches the rank it was before

It's supposed to fold up, but only seems to do it in the loadout screen.

I have orthos and I love it, only problem is that it constantly reminds me that there is a straight upgrade for it (which I've read is pretty much the best weapon in the game) that I have to farm void to get and I'm pretty sick of void right now.
Not to mention orthos prime looks fugly.
I've just been sticking with Orthos because of that :v:
It looks good in my opinion.
I just don't like how its super long, it doesn't telescope like Orthos does. And the blades have that transparency to them, I don't like that.

Lato is pretty viable
Yeah, LATO is a good all around weapon and it's quite accurate. The only thing holding it back is the fire rate and clip size, that's why getting two of them is a great choice

After that minor discussion earlier, I started to want orthos prime even more. I already had the handle and a blade and only needed the blueprint and the other blade. Since I had some void keys laying around, I took a look on the wiki and found out which keys had the highest chance to get me which parts.
I started with a T1 mobile defense, rewarding me with a blade, so I got excited and really wanted the blueprint. A quick look on the wiki told me that a T1 capture key I had laying around could get me that. A single run later and I am left with a 10 orokin cell checkbox just waiting to be ticked. Either today is my lucky day, or farming void just became easy.
Does anyone want to join a T3 defense to see if I can get the bronco prime barrel I need? :v:
Edit: I still need my two builds up to rank 15 so I can figure out what to potato and what I want to throw away. I still can't give a proper review of them with only one mod on each weapon.

Just like any other keys, they are super-rare drops from defense missions. Just do Verena on Venus a bunch of times.

Why do almost all of these idle animations look awful and unnatural?
Like, fuck... I wanna use them but nearly all the frames I have have shit idles. I stick with the default but god forbid I want variety that isn't terrible.
