Yeah, I miss my 300km/h, 0 to 60 in under two seconds, cyberware and weapons scanning, self-driving, all seeing, unflip-over-able, anti-air off road super-bike with a satellite internet connection from 4th edition.

The sensor suite upgrade was pretty OP.

Vehicle customization is the bane of my existence because the min-maxer in me can never resist the appeal of extra numbers
QED, our traveller ship
Basically the goddamn Normandy
Even after I stripped out a ton of extras to make room for fuel
And don't even talk to me about the defense robot I started making

What about the defense robot you started making?
What about the defense robot you started making?
Let me put it this way
I've got like, two pages of contingency commands and emergency shutdowns to cover just about everything that could go wrong with it
And none of those involve any form of stats
The rest of it was basically making a giant metal centipede, covered in blades and laser guns, who would live in the ship's ventilation system and patrol, all but immune to most every form of attack that doesn't involve actively shooting it (IE, unhackable, all but immune to radiation EMP damage, self-purges viruses, incredibly lethal and good at grappling, ect) and with a sensor system that makes it impossible to sneak up on
So basically, all we would need to do if we got boarded is turn out the lights on any part of the ship with enemies in it, and then get a mop for the cleanup afterwards
And what's more, it's intelligent and learns and could pass for a human if you were just talking to it (and didn't see it)
All for less than 200 grand, which is peanuts in Traveller
In the last DnD campaign I was in I played as a Dwarven gunslinger and spoke in a faux Scottish accent for all my IC dialogue. I feel like it added a lot to the experience and the rage-induced decisions made in the passion of dwarven-hood actually helped us solve a murder mystery.
A good friend and myself played in a brief hack-n-slash campaign where our character were brothers. We were given a lot of leeway with characters, so he made a Goblin Alchemist and I played a Goblin Ranger with a +20 to stealth from the get go and a homicidal rage against anyone who threatened his brother.
We spoke in generic high-pitched scratchy Goblin voices with funny accents and childish mannerisms and derailed at least once a session because of it. It was fantastic.
So... uh.... Jet Set Radio / Airgear PnP game?

if I were to run that Shadowrun 5e game, who would be interested and what level of serious would you want it to be, high powered PCs and OTT jobs, goons for hire with less than reputable employers?

I wouldn't mind a bit more transitional type of Shadowrunning where we kind of build up from being common dirty laundry cleaners to high-risk shadowrunners. Better than doing boring or OTT-centric things the entire campaign.
They TOOK OUT CAR MODS FROM CORE BOOK
Like, the whole fact that you got to pimp your car out from a generic piece of traffic vehicles into this goofy-ass beefed up straight-out-of-James-Bond-but-unfortunately-a-BMW was one of the best parts about Shadowrun's customization. Sure, it was a huge money sink, but I'd say it was so worth flaunting it as long as you used the car.
Don't worry, they will be back I'm sure -- in a splat book you have to purchase separately.
[editline]25th September 2013[/editline]
My groups brief stint into Shadowrun sure deviated from the norm. I barely read anything that didn't relate to mechanics, so we ended up playing Shadowrun in a world that was a like fusion of Star Wars, Star Trek, and Dune. That was a really strange and surreal game, but I'll always be happy with the ending. We ended our first (and only) campaign by accidentally crashing a Super Dread(nought) class starship (that we hi-jacked, on accident) into a planet and the resulting collision exploded both the ship and planet -- killing everyone in the group of course. I later read more about the real lore and world and laughed at how utterly not-Shadowrun ours was -- it was like we literally just used the mechanics.
In hindsight I liked our world better. My group felt the same, so maybe one day we'll venture back to it after we're Pathfinder'ed out.
i tried to order this from a local game store but after four weeks and still not having it i got a refund instead and just ordered it from amazon and had it within two days. idk what kind of game i wanna run. i have a bunch of ideas but nothing significant. having a physical copy is nice tho. my eyes get tired out from reading a pdf after only like 10 minutes

Or I could give you some real ideas after I get some sleep.
some real ideas would be cool. im playing with all new players. anybody know of any short and sweet adventures, im all ears
The town well has begun having bats fly out, there is a collapsed side to it that opens into a cave. In the cave are perhaps some dire rats or lesser undead, maybe a map leading to an old ruin that is thought to have lots of treasure.
These things aren't hard, you know.
works for me

Everybody gets kidnapped and it's up to the player characters to follow around an incredibly powerful NPC while he solves the crime.

And then it turns out that he was the one who kidnapped everyone in the first place.

Savage Worlds has bucketloads of cool adventures and pre-made characters if you're lazy (and Savage Worlds encourages minimum GM Prep so don't feel bad).
There's Deadlands, which is Spaghetti Western mixed with horror and some minor steampunk elements. player's guide and Marshal's Handbook (You'll have to make an account on 4shared but its whatever, no bullshit fees or anything)
Also premade characters for Deadlands here
That's just my personal Savage Worlds favorite. Look for Space 1889, Deadlands: Noir, Weird Wars, Necropolis 2350, Sundered Skies, Hellfrost, Necessary Evil, Evernight, 50 Fathoms...there's a LOT of material floating around for Savage Worlds. You just gotta look for them.
Also if you're looking for short and sweet adventures look at these here

Yea that was roughly the inspiration
Because just the default security Terminator walking around would have been a waste of all the wonderful options available
right on liquidnazgul.
i wanna do deadlands reloaded eventually but i figured something simple that only requires the corebook would be a good way to introduce my players to the system and whatnot. im actually in a deadlands noir game right now over on somethingawful. its pretty cool too.
i also like the idea behind evernight (fantasy with aliens) but ive checked out the book and seems kinda railroady. nothing that couldnt be changed around but yeah. anyways thanks for the links.

Yeah that was the biggest problem with Evernight imo. Great setting, meh campaign.
If you just want to use the core book, just fall back on the one sheet adventures. You don't need anything more than a few minutes for everyone to make their characters, the core book, and character sheets.
this helps tremendously btw. It's to keep track of all the nifty things you can do during combat.
all y'all and your talk of games makin' me jealous ;-;
o cool. that is handy. ill be sure to make use of it.

Just run one. It's much easier to find players than to find a GM.
You can then start trading off running sessions or something like that if you want to play.
