Ah, I love being a DM.. Sometimes, I had this great story crafted which mostly takes place in a large town and as soon as my group escaped a prison one of them decided to set a flimsy house on fire which spread through the town and destroyed it and now they're on a deserted island just off the coast. /sigh [editline]2nd April 2013[/editline] To be fair I had fun trying to injure them while they were escaping various fast-spreading fires. There was even a cool explosion they had to escape from and one of them accidently burnt 51 people to death but overall it was a fun first session.
pfft preparing a story real men make up everything on the go
pfft preparing a story real men make up everything on the go
The ironic thing is that's exactly what I was doing, but I had this little intro in the town planned and I was going to wing it for the rest of our campaign. Oh well, they're lost at sea now anyway.

It's also ironic because pirates are the reason they ended up in prison in the first place...
Dunno about pathfinder, but in 3.5 it works like this: You declare sneak attack, and make an attack. You don't get an attack bonus, but the opponent is flat-footed, which often helps. If you hit on that roll, you get the bonus damage from sneak attack (Xd6).
It's the same way in Pathfinder.
My DM killed me to prove how ridiculous scaled enemies are "to-the-book." Fucker even survived me shattering his bones.
so my friend brought up the prospect of him DMing a shadowrun campaign this summer suddenly everything was good in the world
I'll take the lack of answers to my question as a no.
I've got one that's still being planned, so I have no clue what day we're gonna play or anything.
I'll take the lack of answers to my question as a no.
There's not many games that get organised on here, we mostly just talk about it. You should check out myth-weavers.com or rpol.net or simmilar if you're interested in joining a game.

Honestly i like planning a story ahead of time for my campaigns, but because of the nature of the game you can't limit what the players do, that's half the reason many are playing it, for a sense of freedom a video game has trouble giving them. What i usually end up doing is making an overarching story line in a world, and make up the little things that happen when the players do something unexpected as they go along.
Might be up for the Pathfinder Game, sent a PM to avoid spamming the thread with questions.

I just played a one off with a DM that had sneak attack rolls be your normal melee / ranged attack roll, plus your stealth modifier. I would still miss on really shit rolls, but I felt more useful against enemies whose flat footed AC was identical to their normal AC. Like the end boss. Didn't apply to flanking, only attacking when unseen.
I've been very tempted to DM a game, been mulling it over but I lack experience which keeps me away from it for the moment.
I've been very tempted to DM a game, been mulling it over but I lack experience which keeps me away from it for the moment.
Meh, a tonne of experience isn't really needed. Also I tend not to get monsters from the books because they are insanely overpowered and tend to make up my own, more realistic damage figures. [editline]3rd April 2013[/editline] My players also thank me for it, (When they're not BURNING MAJOR PLOT POINTS DOWN)
Where would be a good place to read up on how to actually play, rule list etc? Wanted to try it for ever, and we have a small group (3) none of us have played before and since none of us really know how to play yet it keeps getting put off.

Am I working too hard as a DM if I looked up how to write some shit in runic for something the players may not even spend much time looking at? Because I totally did that. :v: [editline]3rd April 2013[/editline] Pageking: Rats edition.
Yes.

[editline]3rd April 2013[/editline]
Yes.
Then again, maybe if he didn't get so prepared, he could let things flow like they did with your Mutants & Masterminds game, and THAT was a masterpiece of interactive storytellng.
I've mostly just got the first like 2 encounters mapped out and after that I'm just leaving until the game starts and I can get some idea of where the party wants to go.
I might be running a Shadowrun campaign in the summer. What are some key differences between the third and fourth editions of the system if anyone happens to know? [editline]3rd April 2013[/editline] Also, if anyone has any experience with Eclipse Phase then it would be great to know whether or not it is a fun system to run.
Also, if anyone has any experience with Eclipse Phase then it would be great to know whether or not it is a fun system to run.
Character creation for Eclipse Phase is a bitch, I can tell you that much.
I'm totally in for shadowrun bro also rats I'm glad you're not being super by-the book linear. Im excited for your game
If you roll a Cavalier and you're not Order of the Cockatrice then you're doing it wrong. Cockatrice Cavaliers are pretty much Being an Arrogant Dick: The Class.
Order Abilities: A cavalier that belongs to the order of the cockatrice gains the following abilities as he increases in level. Braggart (Ex) At 2nd level, the cavalier can spend a standard action to extol his own accomplishments and battle prowess. He receives Dazzling Display as a bonus feat. He does not need a weapon in hand to use this ability. The cavalier receives a +2 morale bonus on melee attack rolls made against demoralized targets. Steal Glory (Ex) At 8th level, the cavalier can steal the glory from another creature’s successful strike. Whenever a creature other than the cavalier scores a critical hit against a target that the cavalier is threatening, he can make an attack of opportunity against the same target. Moment of Triumph At 15th level, the cavalier can, as a free action, declare a moment of triumph. For 1 round, the cavalier receives a competence bonus equal to his Charisma modifier on all ability checks, attack rolls, damage rolls, saving throws, and skill checks. This bonus is also added to his AC. In addition, any critical threats he makes are automatically confirmed. The cavalier can use this ability once per day.
This thread makes me feel like such a shitty DM. I've never made my own monsters and I need to write all the story elements down before a session, I can't do improv at all; the last time I improvised my party got killed by a werewolf lord How to become a good DM?

Everyone DMs differently as far as I can tell.
So We should start a Pathfinder game on roll20.
