Went down to a D&D shop today and talked to the woman at the register about what RPG she'd recommend for a beginner, and we just talked abit about the things I'd probably need for a game.
She told me Pathfinder is what everyone there plays but didn't say much else since she admitted to not knowing too much about RPGs. Do you think she made a good call?
Pathfinder's awesome for starting out because all their shit is on http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ and http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ so, it's completely free unless you want physical copies, pre-made adventure paths or the magazine I think they run.
It's also relatively easy to pick up if you don't pay attention to a lot of the more advanced combat stuff like combat maneuvers until you're a little more confident with the system.
The GM should know what they're doing otherwise encounters can be badly balanced.

Of course this can be solved by running Adventure Modules.
Alright, I am looking for ideas for a neutral or evil character who's going to end up being a boss in my 3.5/4.0 DnD campaign. If you guys have any ideas that you'd like to throw out there, I am willing to hear just about anything. If you'd like, you can describe any character quirks too that might spice up the guy's personality.
That is a very vague set of parameters.
would-be-hermit sorcerer who's animating more and more mundane objects to run/murder everybody else out of town
That is a very vague set of parameters.
Yeah, I know that what I'm asking for is pretty vague, but I just want some ideas. I'd ask some of my friends but they are going to be participating in the previously mentioned campaign, so I'd like to keep the bosses a bit of a surprise.
[editline]10th October 2013[/editline]
However, I must say that I do like that idea already. Still, if any one else has any ideas I'd love to hear them.
All evidence points to a vampire preying on the townspeople. It's actually a necromancer making those weird undead blood blobs from libris mortis.
A Chaotic Neutral Wizard who is That Guy encapsulated. He does whatever he wants on a whim and therefor leaves chaos and devastation in his wake. He wields enormous power, and is revered as a god of destruction in some regions. His favorite spells are baleful polymorph and color spray but he is not averse to more traditional spells, like fireball.
He is filthy, his socks don't match, and his clothes are ragged. He wears hideous yellow clothes just to fuck with people. He acts like a vagabond, which is evident by the fact that he consistently wears a pack with a bedroll on it and is never in one place for long.
[sp]http://i.imgur.com/34VTJfU.png[/sp]
A manipulative psionic who dresses in an elegant manor. He is a former prisoner in a land where Psionics are common, but are sacrificed to appease a wrathful god. Aside from this detail however nobody knows the location of his kingdom, and nobody in your kingdom has ever met another visitor from such a place. The only way that people even know of his homeland are the legends of armies appearing from nowhere and taking lands with great force before once again disappearing into nothingness. That being said his immense power and talent for subterfuge allowed him to be released upon your kingdom by his former slave keepers.
He is power-hungry, and strives to keep his enemies in a place where they can not retaliate even when meeting face to face. His allies do not enjoy his company, but instead are coerced and forced into uneasy, but solid truces. His purpose for being in your kingdom is unknown, but he seems to be gathering favors and allies for some malevolent plan.
He has a penchant for elekctromancy and biomanipulation.
However, as a man who holds so much power there is one thing that could take him down. He has a secret that if exposed would deal a devastating blow to both him and his homeland.
[sp] http://i.imgur.com/a8f4mhE.jpg is his true form and he comes from a tiny land of intelligent mice [/sp]

Use Gragnark
though it will probably end up in everyone dying
Rip some of the lords of Ravenloft. They are all quite evil, and each has some nasty non-standard abilities making fighting them more interesting.
I haven't heard of this one, but it seems like a good short adventure idea.
It, of course, doesn't have to have the asian flavor to it but it's an interesting character.

An incompetent Necromancer who is desperate to try and reanimate his childhood sweetheart and instead keeps making abominations in which he is unable to control due to his mental state.

At some point he needs to exclaim, "I literally can't stop sucking souls!"
Hit up the local D&D shop again today and shelled out $35 for the Pathfinder beginner box! Could've got most of the stuff in there for free, but man, it's D&D. I like to have physical stuff to use.
Also, there is a fuckload of MLP items in there. Guess they sure know their demographic! The people there are friendly though, with a hint of social awkwardness maybe.
So I'm tired right now and I opened this thread and momentarily confused it with this one. The current discussion there, about the giant beast's eye, actually might turn out to be an epic encounter if I can find a way to work it into an adventure*. Thought I'd mention it to you all, since someone's sure to do it better than I could.
* No, it will not be the still-untitled porn PnPRPG.

Sweetheart? Try.... heartsweet.
He would make the best villain in a campaign.

I'd say; the best villains are the ones who think that they are the heroes.
By the way cdr248, I do believe that I'ma borrow that idea of yours right there. Thanks for your help, and I thank everyone else too who gave shoutouts for ideas.
Yay I helped

After leaving the airstrip in a van Orphaner called over with his mob boss-like contacts (Streetdeal skill of 10), we left to go to Entropy's house.
On the way, we were accosted by vermin posing as human beings in a taxi with guns. They shot at us. It is apparently very difficult to shoot a tire on another moving car while also in a moving car.
Agulia the lucha throws a baby child safety seat thing, followed by a series of heavy tools, at the car. Merchant gets a guy in the arm. Entropy gets shot 4 times in the right leg. Needless to say, the leg's a goner, and Entropy almost with it after taking 39 out of 40 max damage.
9:04 PM - The Unnerfable Entropy: Entropy looks down at his leg, or lack thereof, then back at the driver. "Detour to the hospital, and improve your evasive driving on the way."
After a final toss of a wrench, the opposing vehicle takes a detour into a pole. They die.
Orphaner carries Entropy into the hospital while the others head to Entropy's house to start setting up base for an upcoming heist. One month and a paycheck later, Entropy has a shiny new leg, new augs and a new view on humanity, having almost lost his life.
In other words I got a killer cyberleg, some sweet augs and a boost to my Empathy stat by almost dying. Worth it :v:
After some brief conversing back at Entropy's place, we get an email from a Netrunner we've contacted for assistance on the heist. We meet Charlie, the Netrunner, a feisty lass who Orphaner intimidates into lowering her price. None can stand before 10 Intimidate and a buzzsaw for a hand.
We head to the hotel Charlie's been staying at so she can get some stuff, but we are accosted by three more vermin. Entropy downs one, Charlie the second and the final is destroyed by a beautifully preformed combo of Aguila throwing Orphaner like a human chainsaw.
The final goon, the getaway driver for the previous three, speeds off, hits a truck, and is apparently still alive. We're to retrieve him and question him next time.
End session.
Never played AD&D, and I have a session coming up next week that a DM first timer is hosting, AD&D 2nd edition.
I wouldn't say that I'm well versed when it comes to D&D, so I'm desperately reading up on the second revision of AD&D. Don't even have a Player's Handbook for AD&D, so this will likely go horribly.
Knowing that I will likely fuck up repeatedly, I rolled some stats; got an 18 for str, and pretty good int/wis/con. Musclewizard it is.
[editline]13th October 2013[/editline]
Oh boy, exceptional strength was 00. I rolled all these up over Skype on webcam, there's no going back now.
Muscle Wizard, ho!

The best thing you can do if you like to do this is to make the PC's think they're good but actually doing horrible things, because secretly they're the villains
And thus when their nemesis screams 'I must destroy you to save us all' it will actually have some kick
This especially applies if your PC's have been behaving like any typical adventuring party and looting and punching their way through creation

Did you buy a copy of cyberpunk, or do you have a PDF? I would buy a copy, but I'll be damned if I can find one locally.

You uh... you can't have exceptional str as a wizard unless you start as a fighter then dual class into wizard and that requires massive stats.

This, you have to be a warrior class (which by default means Fighter, Ranger and Paladin only) to get exceptional strength, as well as to get more than +2 HP from your constitution.

We had to pay regular price.
Actually that attempt failed :v:

Uh, no it didn't? Her regular price was 2500. After Orphaner insulted her, she raised it. Then Orphaner used Intimidate and she brought it down to 2000.
You really don't pay any attention at all.

10:34 PM - Fuck Airman: "So, what we paying this fuck?"
10:35 PM - Welcome To The Space GM: She turns to the Orphaner "That's gonna cost ya 10% more, buddy."
10:35 PM - Welcome To The Space GM: (she usually takes either a flat fee of 2500 eb/day, or 15% of the payout, depends on which of these is higher, plus further 10%/1000 eb for acting as mission control)
~one Intimidate pass later~
10:38 PM - Welcome To The Space GM: "Man, you're a scary fucker. Oooh, I'm quakin' in my boots. Alright, two K per day for both?"
