The closest I've ever come to playing Cyberpunk 2020 was when I played Shadowrun as a Troll that rode around on rollerskates and dual-wielded katanas named Trollerskates.
So an old party member in our Cyberpunk game came back from the dead. The one we killed by my lucha grappling him, and holding him down while he took 200 damage of buckshot to the face. So the zombie psycho comes at us, and my lucha rolls infinitely high on the initiative, and i instantly tackle and grapple him. He struggles, but I hold on, and then he takes a .454 slug to the face, blowing half of it off, and leaving the zombie grinning viciously as he struggles again. I beat him back one last time, and then snap his neck. TL;DR unarmed is always OP

No other way to get wonderful improv like the said player using store produce fridges as impromptu projectile weapons.

We're facing off against our group's running joke Gary Stu character of OP godliness in Mekton, named Brick. After we all were wearing away his ludicrously armored cockpit, my turn came up. I had previously caught a crumpled up mecha he shot at me. I go to slam dunk the cockpit with the mechaball. 1:23 AM - Perseus: ok dice, here we go 1:23 AM - Perseus: If I crit, there is a god Perseus: 1D10+10+3 => 23 Mother. Fucking. Crit.
Wizards seem to be keeping up their tradition of silly skill stuff. I still miss the DC 15 Knowledge check to know that Cave Bears live in Caves
That's more a DM problem as far as I see it. The DM shouldn't be requiring rolls for things that would be obvious.

You'll have to forgive me if the following highlights are more biased than normal and not as detailed. I was playing both games. At the same time. Quite effectively too, I'd say. And now, for tonight, I present you a double feature: Cyberpunk: Session 7: Evil Dead http://pastebin.com/RSmjCgFc
The party wakes up in a dusty, old cabin. After investigating and finding nothing of interest, a knocking starts at the door. Not hesitating, Entropy shoots it, with Ash quickly following suit before Aguila finishes the unknown knocker by bashing the thing to the ground with his elbow, splattering its skull and himself. With green blood. We finally leave. Aguila literally jumps on top of the cabin to get a better vantage. He spots a green trail of blood leading into a spooky forest, as well as an army of zombies and skeletons. Fire is exchanged all around before Entropy makes a break through the zombies, getting bitten 4 or 5 times for no damage because of his reinforced skin and armor. Aguila takes some leaps from trees with his newly acquired wingsuit. After pulping some zombies, we appear in a cemetery, and find graves with our own names on it. See the following for more detail http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250739&p=42739739&viewfull=1#post42739739 then finally, once killing our totally evil selves, Entropy's rotting and rusty brother Orphaner crawls from the grave to get revenge, only to be taken out again in much the same manner as last time. That's the gist of it anyway.
Next, we have: Mekton: Episode 3: Rengabatoru, Suramudanku http://pastebin.com/mdNFS4j7
We begin by revealing our true origins, those of the extra-planetary variety, to our comrades. They are accepting of it. We follow up by beginning travel to the direction of the possible crash location of the ship. Upon rolling to navigate, I critically fail, and accidentally delete any and all data relating to the crash site's location. Some minor investigation reveals large treadmarks, which we follow to reveal a giant tank with 5 large guns, which I shall list now: The Mega-MESON Beam. Those unfamiliar with our Fallout games, MESONs break everything, including but not limited to time and the universe. A gatling laser. A dakkagun, or various weapons and scrap taped roughly together. A gigantic missile pod that can (and did) shoot 50 missiles at once. A large Boomstick, otherwise described as a cannon that shoots anything that can fit in it. Think Rock-It Launcher from Fallout 3. Our initiative rolls lead me, Perseus Carpedim and his mecha Ken Kare, to go first. I leap to and punch the first turret, the gatling laser, twice. Brick follows up by shredding all of Ken Kare's armor with a shot from the Mega-MESON, then following up by shooting and tearing into me with his Dakkagun, taking one of my arms off as well. Skyren, of the newly dubbed Kingu Kobura mecha, burrows underground before tunneling right through Brick's tank, twice. Cedric fires a volley of missiles at Brick's cockpit, about 20 or 30, and scored maybe 6 crits, blowing large chunks of armor off it. Sorry to say I forgot what Bishop did, but he shot it too. Ken Kare then punches the Mega-MESON 6 times, 2 of which are crits. He absolutely wrecks it. The others whittle away at the giant tank some more. Next, Ken Kare and Kingu Kobura combine, creating... 12:23 AM - Perseus: "KINGU KOBURA NO KOBUSHI!" Through sheer willpower and magical anime mecha combination powers, Ken Kare is fully repaired through the combination. Skyren controls Kingu Kobura no Kobushi first, tearing the gatling laser turret straight off the tank, and throwing it, then shooting the cockpit with a scorpion tail laser thing. Brick then fires 50 missiles at us. Skyren is knocked unconscious and Kingu Kobura no Kobushi is pretty beatup once again. He then fires, from the Boomstick, a crumpled up wad of a mecha at us. Perseus, not having any of this shit, catches the promektile. After some more whittling away, Perseus' turn comes up, still clutching the balled up mecha. See several posts above http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250739&p=42740459&viewfull=1#post42740459 Brick, for the first time in his undying, universe-hopping, reality-warping, time-bending life, is defeated. He concedes defeat.
[editline]3rd November 2013[/editline]
Not to mention, just the turn before his Mecha (a four armed mecha with primary focus in punching) and Skyren's (a giant snake mecha) combined to form one giant robot, with the ability to shoot acid lasers. You can only combine effectively with someone thoroughly impressed with you, as Skyren was with me when I completely wrecked his shit with my original, boss-breaking crit punch in the first game. Me and Skyren have been soulbros ever since.

There's you, Kamina's second cousin twice removed, me, edgemaster supreme and lord of all edginess, Cedric, who is and always will be GunTank, and Skyren, who likessssss ssssnakesssss. I guess there's Brick, but ultimately you did all the work. I just sat back, analyzed his tank thing, and fired pot shots at his cockpit and turrets until you decided to grandslam his ass. I'm starting to feel like second fiddle (possibly even third). :T
So I'm kind of trying to develop my own homebrew system, based on meshed together rules swiped from the Fallout PNP, DnD, and Cyberpunk. It's called Damsels in Distress, and you play as a princess stuck outside of her kingdom. Not much progress on it yet, I'm working on races, skills, and attributes so I can lay the groundwork before I get down to more complicated shit.
Drow cleric mummy, fluffed as a dessicated spider-meal wrapped in silk instead of bandages. I am really liking this as a concept.
Alright, so I've been looking up D&D recently, and I've got a bunch of friends who would be interested in playing it. So I was curious about a few things- How exactly is it played? I've seen the stereotypical fat neckbeard in a wizard hat hunched over a board, but is it mostly done by rolls, or is it more tabletop oriented? Secondly, what exactly will I need? And finally, I've gathered that there's a bias against 4th edition. In layman's terms, why is that?

Rolls come into it, but just for skill checks and combat. You'll need the player's handbook, dungeon master guide, and a monster manual or two. 4E is a rotting sack of shit, but that's just me.

I guessed that, are there any 'starter packs' I could get from somewhere? Why is it, though? Did they try and make it more for the kind of people who shouldn't play D&D in the first place?

It's nice to have for combat and dungeon delving though. Uhh... Like I said, you just need the PHB and DMG. Just look up low level modules, there's a shitload online, especially for 3rd edition. That's pretty much it. They super simplified all aspects to it, the complete opposite of what 3rd edition did.
Why doesn't D&D Next have Summon Monster I - IX spells?
Aren't those some of the problem spells that make Wizards so ridiculously powerful compared to everyone else? That might be a reason.

As for actually playing the game, well that depends entirely on you, I suppose. You could have your party roll for everything and make meticulous combat maps with grids and everything, or you could just wing it and only have rolls for very important skill checks and combat. (I tend towards the latter, personally :v:) As for what you're gonna need? The rulebook, a set of gaming dice, maybe some paper and pencils to draw rough maps, that's 'bout it. Maybe also a canned adventure, too, so you can focus on getting to know the system and, well, playing. If you dig around your Friendly Local Game Store, you're bound to find a starter kit which contains all of the above.
So because I'm new to D&D, I have no idea what to put in the Spells bit of this character sheet: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5uQKB6NwQ-dc1hnQmFpb2dteTQ/edit?usp=sharing What exactly are 1st-9th for, whats with the circles, and why is the save DC box split in two? Thanks.
all spells have a power classification, 1st level is basic magic, where ninth level is the strongest magic casters can access at high levels. There's a tier past this called epic spells, but that's a long way off for now. You put in spells if you have a character capable of using arcane (wizard) or divine (cleric/paladin/ranger) magic.

But the 1st to 9th thing is how many slots for each level of spell you have, you gain higher level slots as you level up, which lets you cast that many spells of that level each day. tl;dr, high level = better spells, bigger number for that level = more spells.

I think I'll just have to liberally apply my super lucky luck to fudge all my higher dice rolls up to crits, and see how that works out. Surely something great'll come from that.
Sorry for the question spam, but what's the difference between 3e and 3.5e? And is there anywhere where I can grab myself a new copy of either, or would I have to get a second hand copy?

If you do go for Pathfinder you wouldn't even need to buy any books; almost everything(save for the newest books, depending on how long they've been out), is up on d20pfsrd.com or Paizo's website.
