Haha, ran my first D&D Next session last night. Went well, was a fair amount of fucking around with character stuff that hadn't been done at the start so we didn't get to do too much. Basically the players got to the a town and started a Spanish inquisition about a unknown deity that performed miracles for the town. Little do they know they're asking too many questions which is going to get them in trouble with the local cult who worships this "deity". Fun times all round.
Were there "No one expects the Spanish inquisition" jokes made all around?
Makes me wonder what they're actually gonna call their next iteration of D&D. I gotta say I enjoyed the playtest and I think Next is starting to become my favorite incarnation of D&D, including Pathfinder. But "D&D Next" as an actual name sounds kinda weird honestly.
It makes me think about Pepsi Next and then I get a bitter taste in my mouth. Makes me not want to play it. :v:

All that happened was that as soon as they met anyone they'd ask them about said "being" and would then roll to insight and persuade, then if that failed or the mage was leading the charge then he would fart out a charm spell. Which was hilarious because the NPC was super friendly and warned them about the being and the people who are worshiping it and then the mage is like CLEARLY HE'S NOT TELLING ME SOMETHING and tries to charm him, then the NPC rolls a natural 20 saving throw and is just like wtf why.

Are there any podcasts or video casts of some D&D next stuff. I'd like to see if I'm doing shit correctly. Failing that would anyone mind if I sat in on one of their games?
Is there anyone setting up/running a Call of Cthulu game looking for two players at all?
And then, to the surprise of nobody, I checked the release schedule and Exalted 3rd Edition was pushed to January.
Gonna be doing a not very serious at all Pathfinder game that's set out like a game show with the excuse plot of "a wizard did it", current potential first boss encounters are a set of evil intelligent full plate, sword and shield reanimated by lightning, getting into a rap battle with a bard or the stereotypical gloating asshole necromancer turned up to 11. [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] I might roll the necromancer and the bard into the same guy, gives me an excuse for a jeering crowd of skeletons.
I am shamelessly in the midst of making a plot and setting for a game of Magical Burst aka Magical Anime Girls: The PnP I've been discussing a number of details with several people and already have a few players lined up and with characters in mind. We're all excited and can't wait to play semi-futuristic magical teenage girls fighting demons in a cyberpunkish setting that looks shiny on the surface but is actually gritty as hell underneath. I've already got a fair bit of the setting fleshed out. Should be fun! :v:

Anyone know any good mapping programs, preferrably for making like, modern cities and such?
Anyone know any good mapping programs, preferrably for making like, modern cities and such?
Photoshop, Gimp, etc. Combine with: http://www.cartographersguild.com/content/
Photoshop, Gimp, etc. Combine with: http://www.cartographersguild.com/content/
My group is likely moving to online D&D (we're actually shelling out $150 for virtual grounds, but we really like it, despite Roll20 being there for use and being easier to use) and the resources on cartographer's guild will be a major help for our DM. thanks~
(we're actually shelling out $150 for virtual grounds, but we really like it, despite Roll20 being there for use and being easier to use)
It's a good choice. If you're going to dedicate yourself to one game, it's far better to pick a dedicated VTT than the Jack of All Master of None that is Roll20.
Is an Ultima-style Avatar possible as a Cleric? Like, agnostic/atheistic but with a defined set of virtues. Fluff-wise, I mean.

Advanced 2nd's priest book talks about priests of "Philosophies" (the example philosophies it provides are Divinity of Mankind, Good and Evil) who gain their powers from the philosophy being so widely followed that it becomes powerful (but it's not sentient or living or anything like that, it's just a philosophy).

If I'm ever in the mood to play a Cleric I'll bring it up with the GM.
College shenanigans continue. A friend of mine was running a PF game, and Ginger was in that game. We're all a close-knit group of friends btw, so we all knew each other. There were 7 players in the game, including myself. So GM posts a rule saying players whose characters are killed has to leave the game. Two sessions in, and Ginger's character, a sorcerer, is eaten by a giant slug and promptly had to leave the game. Same session, another player, who turned out to be playing as a disguised mind flayer, was immediately given the green light to make a new character. Doesn't have to leave. Seriously? Now don't get me wrong, things aren't exactly extremely tense between Ginger and my other friends (most of them, anyway). It's just he exhibits habits that, while annoying, aren't bad enough to be called an "annoying asshole" by one other friend. For example: constantly apologizing (something he's been trying to work on), being overly selfless (yes, there is such a thing as being too selfless), interrupting players during their time in the game. Again, annoying habits? Yes, but not habits that warrant being not-so-subtly being told to fuck off by being killed off on the second session (the giant slug went after him and only him). This whole situation annoys me more than it should, because there's no direct dialogue, just gossiping behind people's backs and outright lying. And I absolutely hate it when people lie and just aren't upfront about their opinions. Ie if I run a new system (Numenera), don't make up flimsy excuses to not show up, just tell me you're not interested in the system damnit.

I've been reading this all, and it seems there isn't much talk of 2nd edition. I am relatively new to D&D, not too much, and would love to do some games with other people who enjoy the simple 2nd edition.
Simple? AD&D 2e? Which without a map requires a whole skull-full of imagination, which I love.

I could squeeze you into the Ravenloft one if you're interested.
Actually, I meant to say AD&D, and I've got some Ravenloft monsters in my compendium. The current situation is probably going to result in a party wipe, or at least another few dying unless they are very careful.

Apart from cutting in on other peoples time (Which he can probably learn not to do) the people you talk about sound like a bunch of gossip girls with a shitty elitist attitude.
Source for divine magic depends on the system. IIRC 3.5e demanded divine casters worship a deity. In Pathfinder the exception to this was the Oracle Class, which is explicitly stated not to worship any one deity in particular. In the end though it's down to your GM.
My pathfinder group just forceably adopted a mite. [t]http://paizo.com/image/content/PathfinderRPG/PZO1112-Mite.jpg[/t] All it can really do is cast prestidigitation to drop fragile objects on their heads, and make their clothes dirty. I also misdescribed them, so they are all only 1/3rd their normal height (normal is 3ft).
