I was kind of joking but okay.
Be careful of what you kind of ask for.
Latest traveller session Basically just System Shock, following us taking a bunch of bribe money and running the fuck away to spend it but getting distracted by a distress signal Also massive props to our death robot who saved our asses during a big fight through carefully applied laser rifles and buttfuck massive tentacle damage. It killed the big tanky bitch who was the 'boss', who'd soaked up a ton of gauss rifle fire beforehand, with a single hit that did about 50 damage. After having torn apart the other two guys who had knocked my main character unconscious. He got a medal and everything
Alright, I need a second opinion. Is it just me, or is it really dumb that my College 3.5 GM is forcing us to just use the Players handbook in our 3.5 game. I've suggested that we at least use the Complete series along with PHB2, that's not unreasonable right?
It's unreasonable but it's also his game to run.
I agree, and if he rejects this, I'll just go along with that, but I feel like since he's a new GM he's being a little too cautious, which is why I'm trying to expand the rulebook choice, while also keeping it really limited in the grand scheme.
Ciaster looks like how I envision every facepunch user.
I don't own a gasmask though or have ever watched a single anime

First time I ran I just went 'fuq it' and let my players even use homebrew crap as long as it wasn't too stupid. Some people, more rational than myself, would probably err on the side of caution :) If he's not experienced or never GM'd I couldn't blame him. Otherwise he's either a snob or a worry-wort.
I don't own a gasmask though or have ever watched a single anime
Gasmasks and ushankas are on the same tier for sure

In my current campaign with my close group of friends, one of them chose the Archivist from Heroes of Horror along with some new spells and caught me off guard with a zombie bear summoning and the "Blade of Pain and Fear" from Libris Mortis during one of the first combat encounters of the game.
Gasmasks and ushankas are on the same tier for sure
Well I'm Polish so I feel like I have the right to wear an ushanka as a regular hat :v: plus it's so comfy and warm
The core handbook stuff is already semi-gamebreaking though.
And add-ons can only exacerbate this.

As it stands, the books are pretty much must use for any class that isnt spellcasting.
Alright, so I've been thinking more and more about what types of enemies to put into a game, and for only war/dark heresy, I think I have it pretty much figured out. In Only War, my guys had no problem with little enemies, such as ork shootas, in fact, I think I sent too many there way, they just ended up plowing through them so much it just became a timesink. Where they really came into difficulty was with surprise enemies and bullet sponges. In my game, my party was entrusted to defend a cleric from two violent waves of orcs. It was with the standard orks coming from the front that they literally had no problem with whatsoever. When I sprung a gang of just three slugga (melee) orks on them from the back, right next to the cleric which they were just leaving with three guys, since they assumed that all the enemies would come from the front. These guys wrecked shit, ending up killing three of the NPCS in their squad and one of the companions. The next thing they had difficulty with was the big boss, a giant nob wearing full 'ard armor and ridiculously hard to kill, he reached around and fucked up their traps and also was on the verge of killing them all. Even though not all of their shots damaged him, everytime they tried it actually felt like they were seriously in danger. Now, Im the past I often thought that you should go for massive numbers over massive numbers (meaning stats), but I think I've been disproven. When they were killing those forty-odd orks, it just felt like a game of chance. But when you throw even the slightest spanner in the works, shit goes haywire and it's awesome. So with this, I think that you should make it so your party has no idea what to expect, and if they do, make it one big threat. That was a long post.

You can include leaders for the horde as well, and it makes certain attacks more useful.
Oh god that would've been perfect for the last game... where can I find that rule in the Only War/DH/whatever book?
It's in a supplement. Enemies of the Imperium, which also functions as a Monster Manual. It's also in the Deathwatch rules, but shit is wack in that ruleset so don't use it outside of it's own set of books.
We used hordes in our Rogue Trader game once. It was a bunch of bandits on horseback doing guerilla hit-and-run attacks. I'm playing a Void Master so I ended up running them all over with my fighter because they were throwing grenades up at me. The only guy that survived was their leader. (The gm later said he had burnt a fatepoint to survive. Sometimes he gives the special enemies fatepoints so they die in more cinematic ways.) I landed my fighter nearby, and we ended up in a wild west showdown. My co-pilot, Porkins (Yeah, I named him Porkins), got tired of waiting for me to come back so he climbed out and shouted "HEY-" and that was the signal to draw. By the time Porkins finished his sentence there was a gun shot and the bandit leader was already on the ground bleeding out. (I rolled a 10 for initiative, and I have 60 agility so I went first) I collected his white cowboy hat, and it's currently in our trophy room, along with a counterfit eldar shuriken pistol, and a general's lamp that we stole. To this day I have the highest kill count. Everybody else has maybe 4 or 5 kills. I have 42. 82 if you count the horses.
In OW I have a weaponmaster/sniper has 60 BS, 54 Ag, and +20 dodge. I went in one on one with a necron lord and won through the grace of the Emperor (and a rating 40 forcefield... and best quality plasma gun and storm bolter) It's nice to kill things with teamwork, but also nice to be able to say to the party that I am the most effective killer in the group.
Alright so, I want to get my Only War gang to transition over to Rogue Trader. The way I was thinking about doing this would be TPK (which feels like a total rip), and so far I just can't figure out a way to transition. And even more frustratingly, they would definitely all have to reroll characters... ugh... this is bothersome, but I so wanna do Rogue Trader. The reason I wanna do this is because right now I can tell they're kind of bored with just combat, which Only War is (as the name implies), and I love swashbuckling rogues and shit, so it'd be more fun for me. Also it's way more versatile, they won't be JUST combatting, and when they are, it'll be way cooler. So what should I tell my group that would convince them to do this with me?

Just bear in mind the XP value is about 8K for OW to properly transition.
I'm going to GM a Rogue Trader game of swashbuckling spacefaring stuff sometime in the future, probably next week. I'm looking for four more people, and the time is to be decided. If anyone is down, just tell me here.
So I started a new campaign at the request of a few of my friends. They're all playing level 1 commoners with a 10 point buy build, using crappy daggers and slings they've picked off of the kobolds they've slain. It's incredible deadly and amazingly fun.
So, I have access to a 3D Printer at my high school through my physics teacher, so I asked him if I could print a d20 And well... I sanded it to make it more even and redid the numbers (my handwriting is abysmal) later so it looks more like this: I plan to paint it and make it look way nicer So psyched to try it tomorrow for Wednesday Night Encounters!

An Aquilla lander that nobody can explain crash lands out in no-mands land, the group find it to be piloted by the richest motherfucker they've ever met. If they can get him off this hell-hole of a planet then maybe he can find a way to repay them.
