I'd be interested in both the Pathfinder game and the 3.5 one.(Probably not both though unless you go with different days :o)
Although I, too, would need some "Pathfinder-to-3.5" guidance for the 3.5 game.
I was never really a fan of 3.5, it always seemed really convoluted whenever I played it. Hope the game goes well, though.
Alright. After looking at my PMs I noticed its a rather convoluted mess so I decided to do a survey. If you're interested at all please take the survey.

How to spend too much time on stairs: A guide by Rats.
Gotta make those maps look good!
Knowing the way our pathfinder game is going, it's probably a good idea you're making the stairs look good as we'll spend half the session looking at them.
I ROLL PERCEPTION TO EXAMINE THE STAIRS
I ROLL PERCEPTION TO EXAMINE UNDER THE STAIRS
I ROLL PERCEPTION TO LOOK AT EACH STAIR INDIVIDUALLY WAIT DO I NEED TO ROLL FOR EACH STEP I'LL DO IT JUST IN CASE.

"I didn't find anything with a 19 + 10000? Better take 20"
Quick check on my Pathfinder game:
I'm planning the city my players return to after facing their first dungeon (the one in the Beginner Box - after that I'll start original stuff). I'd like them to be able to buy some slightly-better weapons, but anything in the book is too pricey (and presumably overpowered). They'll still be level one (quest gives 750XP each), and probably have 500-700GP each, max.
I specced out a couple weapons they could buy, do they seem reasonable?
Goblinslayer Battleaxe (150GP) - if attacking a goblin, gets +1 to hit and uses 1d10 instead of 1d8 for damage
Bonecrusher Longsword (130GP) - +1d3 to hit against skeletons (may change weapon type - one of the fighters hasn't picked his equipment yet, I'll match this to his primary focus)
Heavy Throwing Axe (60GP) - 1 in 4 chance (get 4 on 1d4) of inflicting Stagger on hit
How do those sound? Too overpowered for level one? Too cheap? Too expensive? Am I worrying about this too much?
Sounds fine. The racial bonuses aren't much, which is alright when you want to keep it low, but it would be a dick move not to throw some skeletons and goblins at them.
I like the throwing thing. Throwing is hilariously bad, but that might make it worth it. Also, remember when you want to upgrade weapons: +1 to damage usually works better than upping the die (unless there's a specific point in upping the die).

They're level one, and I only have the bestiary in the Beginner Box. I see them fighting a lot of goblins, skeletons and dire rats. The quest they'll do right before this involves both skeletons and goblins, and I'll make sure to throw at least one of them at them in the next quest, if they buy those.
I'll keep the modifier vs. different dice in mind. I was thinking that using a different die would "feel" more significant than a +1 modifier, even though the average roll for 1d8+1 and 1d10 is the same.
Someone from England took the survey and didn't put their username. Also looks like we'll have a group starting late morning Sunday. I'm still going to try and fit in everyone who wants to do this though so there'll likely be another group if there are enough people.

Using other (or more) dice 'feels' significant, yes, but it can also be dissappointing - a +1 dam bonus always delivers, whereas the switch from d8 to d10 can feel feel completely futile after a few combat sequences. Of course there can be a point in switching the die, as I mentioned, so don't take it as a rule, more as a possible guideline. The weapons sound cool, good luck!

How will communication work? Over Steam or Skype?

True. I think I'll change it to just a +1, at least for now. Getting 1 damage is probably more disappointing than getting 10 damage is beneficial.
At some point, though, I'm going to make a weapon that uses that d30 I have, either for hit or for damage. That should be fun - could do 30 damage, could do 1. Probably not something to give out after a single quest, though.

i got a gun kind of thingy that dealt 1d100 damage in a old campaign i played in.
it was... incredible.
Someone who just took the survey also forgot to include their username as well.

Terribly sorry, that was me. I also tried PMing originally but realised just a while before the survey it didn't send properly.
Just out of curiosity, it seems that D&D general became "Tabletop RPG" General. Is that true or is it purely D&D?

It is true.
Wouldn't be adverse to the next threads being something like "PnP General", a more fitting name given all the different games being talked about in here. Though it would go against tradition.

Non-Wargame Tabletops general.
Reading up on the Adeptus Evangelion game is making me want to DM a game (It's essentially the Dark Heresy system set in Neon Genesis Evangelion).
Maybe some day.

is it normal for D&D players to decorate themselves with the body parts of their defeated enemies
our tactician has wolf skull pauldrons, our sorceress has a floating skull orb, and I have a spine belt with a goblin skull buckle
we're not sure if we're psychopaths or???

Well trophies could be considered in character, especially for Barbarians, but you might draw some odd looks in civilized settings.
Nothing wrong with taking tropies but I expect the DM'll have some NPCs react oddly to someone waltzing around covered in skulls. Particularly if they didn't clean the skulls beforehand.

i had a character who wore his enemy's pelts and skin as a prideful display of superiority
freaking goblins
I should imagine for some races or NPCs wearing your tropies would be seen as a plus, as it's demonstrating your skill as a warrior or whatever.
Got a story for you guys.
So we started a 20th level campaign where a dark god was accidentally released and we have to stop him. Pretty standard stuff y'know?
To defeat him we each had to become a champion of certain gods. Our fighter became the champion of the Sun, our token chick become the champion of the Earth, And me, playing a warforged palidin, became the champion of the moon.
The girl in our group immediatly goes "In the name of the moon, you shall punish them!" confused I go "heh, yeah!" then everyone just laughs like crazy.
Later I found out this is a quote from Sailor Moon and everyone can't stop imagining my character dressed up like her.
My intimidating, spiked plate wearing, skeletal, robot who was created to destroy monsters bigger than him and can blast acid from his palms, is now a sailor scout.
God fucking dammit.

Also I am bad at drawing.

I remember in one of my 3.5 games, our Warsword cut off a minotaur's head, removed its skull, poked out its eyes, and wore its head as a mask. It was legendary. It also started to smell really bad after one or two battles
