I like the effort, but the fact that there are so many rules for so many things that you have to look them up really bothers me.
I don't really see how there's so many rules. Elemental Effects has by far more crunch, and that's as simple as 1d6+1, 15 base save. I made it base line for a reason. Synergies are based on logic where allowed, i.e Earth does Bleed damage, therefore Cold negates the Bleed because the body is becoming frozen, slowing the Bleed effect -- for the sake of ease it simply negates the Bleed.
My players knew it better than I did after one game. By our third they had the whole thing memorized, even the melee people for some reason. Equal parts commitment to rules. I have to know everything to keep the game flowing; players at the very least can show enough respect for me and each other to have their own characters rules memorized. Maybe it's different when you play with strangers that can just hop from one group to another, I don't really know. I play with people I've known for 3-11+ years, so showing each other that respect is important to us.
Legend of the Five Rings gets cancelled two weeks in a row, and then tonight I ended up bumping into my GM and another player, both of whom I've never seen outside of using playing before, on a night out.
What are the odds?
I'm writing up a setting for a game. I'm not sure what system I will use, I'm thinking Rouge Space due to how easy that system is to learn and modify.
The setting is called Retrocity (pronounced kinda like audacity), I took the general idea of the 8-bit dystopia setting some guys made up a while back and decided to make my own thing of it. It's like a gritty cyberpunk mishmash of videogames, mainly classic ones, but I have a few weapons/enemies from modern titles here or there.
It's hard to really describe it all so I'll let my favor text do the work with that. I want to know what you all think.
Oh, and this isn't all I have written up, I currently have about 40 pages of just pure flavor text atm.
My intention for the game is to have the players become crime lords of this cyberpunk dystopian city. There will be three major gangs to deal with. Here's two.
The Koopa Troopas: The Koopa Troopas, consisting mainly of lizard-men like creatures and humanoid plant beings, are ruled primarily by a paranoid, tyrannical, and fat lizard known as Bowser. Bowser has little time for lieutenants and other higher ups who may have thoughts of overthrowing him, instead he chooses to let his, now teenage, kids take care of the infantry, well, what kids have survived. The Koopa Troopas are the biggest, yet the weakest of the three gangs. Members are poorly trained and not the brightest of gang-bangers. What they lack in skill they make up for in sheer devotion. All of them blindly follow "Big-Boss Bowser" and his children to the letter. They control the majority of the drug trade and defend their territory ruthlessly.

The Joes: The Joes are former robots, once under the control of the, now bought out, Wily Corp. The mechanical biker gang rules over the illegal weapons market with their eight powerful leaders. The leaders, often referred to as "Masters" tend to work in pairs. Iceman and Fireman are the two most often seen on the field alongside other grunts. Gutsman and Bombman are the heavy hitters, only making an appearance when some heavy lifting needs to be done or backup needs to be called. Cutman and Elecman are seen as the brains behind the whole gang, calling the shots and planning the hits. However, rumor has it there may be a true central leader behind the gang's operations.
I'm not sure how many monsters/creatures I'll include, but have one.
Metroids:
Size: 3 feet across.
Hated by electricians and repairmen, Metroids are horrible pests that feed on electricity and machines. These odd jellyfish like creatures float in mid air, searching for something to quench it's appetite for power in the most literal sense. A single Metroid poses no threat to anybody's electrical bill, but a swarm have been known to blackout entire city blocks. Metroids are also highly dangerous to anyone nearby as well, if one attaches to your cranium, you could be dead within mere minutes! While environmentalists may frown, most will be pleased to hear that the pesky Metroid has been hunted to near extinction. If you see one floating about, do not hesitate to make it go pop.
I like the effort, but the fact that there are so many rules for so many things that you have to look them up really bothers me.
I like how 40k RPG does it, where you can use psychic powers "spells" as much as you want, but theres a possibility of calamity. I like that a lot.
If you're playing a caster, you should be making an effort to memorize your shit anyways.
The main reason so many people don't play casters is because they're lazy as hell and don't want to plan ahead of time for combat.
It's great when you get like a mature and smart player rocking a caster because they can do some crazy shit while keeping flow perfectly
The best part of waking up, are the DM's plans fucking up!
People who play wizards are way bigger fucking nerds than I could ever comprehend. Sure they do more damage, but you have to put up with a whole bunch of rules.
I just wanna kill shit.
I disagree
Wizards are the coolest and don't you ever diss them or I will fireball you in the face, nerd.
besides, most games actually have way more complicated rules for mundane combat things than it does for magic.
Dungeon Worlds
just cast fucking invis for days

Prepare your anus for five ranks of monowhip proficiency. Also have a medkit for a hand so I could stab you with that, or a kick in the jaw with the raptor legs.

monowhips are for faggots, real men use rocket launchers
monowhips are for faggots, real men use rocket launchers
Monowhips are the great equaliser for people with crap strength in melee, flat damage and reach 2.
Assuming you don't fuck up and tangle yourself in it.

Modular cyberarm too, so I've got a regular hand, medkit and laser welder for it. The welder may or may not be there for Killing Floor references.
no they are for min-maxing faggots

Yeah, that's what I said.
