Yeah, because you would never be able to fucking deal with that big scary monster, considering the big scary monster is literally a god.
"You always lose" is kinda boring, though.

Doesn't matter, just a big scary monster and nothing more. No extra horror for me than that.
"You always lose" is kinda boring, though.
"You always lose" if it ever comes into this world, which is why you don't let it come into this world.
The cool thing about cosmic horror is how sort of optimistic it is, showing how a small group of people, with all their humanly effort, can thwart a fucking god, while at the same time being crazy nihilist. It's really interesting.

The "monster" isn't even the focal point of cosmic horror, it's about an uncaring world and doing your best to try and not let it get fucked over.
The investigators goal in Call of Cthulhu is trying to keep everything normal, which is really interesting.

It originated from the fact that I was the only female character in the party and it grew from there into her codename because I couldn't think of anything better.
That's ok. I can never think of good names for my characters, so I have a penchant for naming my characters Weeks Tightfist just because I used it once and everyone hated him because the voice I used for the character was similar to Charlie Day from Sunny.

Ehh, heard the story a million times already and I don't need to be reminded to be optimistic and stuff.

Eh, guess I haven't seen it down well enough to give that vibe.
Yo could someone explain what Mumbles means though?

:c Man, I don't call you names, why you gotta call me names?
Does anyone have a potential starting point for someone whose interested in trying pen and paper games but has zero previous experience. A group I used to spend time with online was apparently considering starting a D&D campaign one but that never went anywhere and most of the folks I know in real life don't have an interest or the time. I've considered going asking around some of the hobby or comic shops for things in my area but that seems like I'd come off as too much of an idiot.
Sorry if this isn't the correct place to ask.

To be honest i really liked almost all the characters in that game a lot, and brule was fun to play.

The Lady is my test for how well I understand the setting and system. I've only ever played The Lady once and that was for, what, one session before Chicago got nuked again. The proto-The Lady doesn't count, though fun to play.
[editline]27th March 2014[/editline]
Cosmic horror is unrelatable and impersonal, why should I bother trying to give a damn why a big planet-eating whatever is doing what it does when there's never going to be an answer so just nuke it or don't whatever. If I ever was in a game of CoCk, my first move would be to burn that letter from my father telling me not to investigate his untimely death and uphold his last wishes.
Now, Silent Hill hates your guts and knows exactly what you fear and loath about yourself, that's scary to me.
Yes, you aren't playing Lady again, you're just playing a stealth based female character who refuses to tell the party her past.

As far as my character is aware, she's lived in New Zealand quite happily all her life and is currently studying abroad. She makes no secret of that.
They finally released Realm Works today, now I can actually world build effectively. Sucks shit that they didn't release it with web-access though, still some months off. :(
Thats another thing, you give them a map, they know that shit is going down on this map, so they become way too cautious.
To be fair they did feel guilty and come back to it after a while. On one side of the map there was this huge black circle that was meant to represent a crude well dug straight into the ground without any structure on top of it - when they fearfully asked what it was I told them they couldn't see anything, since it was just the lip of a big hole. Then I jokingly said it was Cthulhu. They were incredibly cautious thereafter

From personal experience, I do not recommend hobby shops for groups because the people there tend to be flaky. We have plenty of games that start right here online, but I'll defer to the rest of the thread for advice on finding real life games.
People are flaky here as well, but at least you're still in the comfort of your own home when noone shows up.
and can publicly shame people for their flakiness
Imagine D&D General game meetups. That'd be quite the experience.

I named Brick, Brick because I looked at my desk and it was the first thing I saw :v:
I like giving my characters dull, boring names then playing the most dull, boring person.
