I've been thinking about Pathfinder, and I'm so glad D&D is no longer the king of all RPGs. It's not even really the game itself, it's the fact that everyone getting into RPGs had to play D&D if they wanted to play at all. There just wasn't anything else out there, and if you aren't super into high fantasy, you're fucked. I never even knew any other kind of RPG existed until 2010, and it wasn't until 2013 that I could find people (IRL, you nerds don't count) interested in playing other RPGs.
You know, I have a very peculiar talent for dying inordinate amounts of times in some games, and then simultaneously somehow magically surviving just about anything in others. This is the second time my character dies in weird ass Naruto adventures, and this time I wasn't even being that stupid. For reference I am the only one who has died ever in that game. Meanwhile in Pathfinder, i'm basically jumping onto people's swords as a wizard, I've gone into negative hit points a bunch of times, and yet I am still alive.
Trying to take on a boss level enemy alone and without killing it is not the best decision one could make.
Trying to take on a boss level enemy alone and without killing it is not the best decision one could make.
It would have worked just fine if you didn't make it immune to status effects. srsly wtf

Much more complicated, a lot less players, and harder to find rulebooks for them. TSR had a stranglehold on the market until 3E basically, and even then they were still the top dog. As it is, Dungeons and Dragons seems to be played in the older editions more than the newer ones because they aren't upgrades the way they used to be. They are total overhauls, in ways that piss a lot of people off. Meanwhile Fantasy Flight Games, among others, are releasing fairly simple and easy to use roleplaying systems in settings that are a lot of fun while D&D is still stuck in the fucking Forgotten Realms and Ebberon. They haven't touched the best settings since AD&D >:C
It's kind of funny. I spent like four sessions covertly researching how best to separate a familiar from its master without harming the master and retrieving the magic bound to their fragment of the soul. I consulted magical academies over several continents, rubbed shoulders at a necromantic masquerade ball full of liches, called on my mother to help with the spellcasting, and in the end? "I was interested in examining the link on the creation magic between your souls, may I cast a spell on you?" "Sure?" Trap the imp's soul in a gem and place my husband in temporal stasis to protect him from any harm. Kill the imp, end the stasis, and destroy the gem. Twelve seconds tops, and that scheming bastard is finally gone. We had some lovely tea afterwards. Though now Asmodeus and Glasya's pit fiend lawyers are squabbling over who gets his soul and his player and the dm have been having intense secret discussions so I'm kind of terrified ooc.
Oh god. Oh god he was essentially a polymorphed davesprite homura this whole time. He knew I was going to kill him, he knew I had to kill him, he went to hell to save his soul in this timeline from the same fate.
So after having played World of Five Nations for a while, I decided that I should try to look into some other Naruto RPGs for shits and giggles. So I decided to take a look at Naruto d20. I took a small gander at the index, and decided to jump to the ninjer techniques chapter. Among the techniques there, I found one technique that will forever boggle my mind. One technique, which will never be understood by mankind. [sp]The Ninja Dry Cleaning Technique.[/sp] [sp]also the core rule book is a couple hundred pages longer than FATAL[/sp]

Second, without me and Dory you would have been roasted. And finally, you keep on telling yourself that little lie if it helps you sleep at night. I am the pun king here.
Also, we're ignoring the part where shit's so fucked, you now have to scratch, you fucking geniuses, only three games in :v:
Still going to be hilarious to watch unfold
And now I'm no longer allowed to be the bad guy because the party emptied out. Oh well, I can avoid going murderhobo very easily, unlike some people.
Holy fucking shit, a vendor at Ravencon actually has a copy of Maid RPG for sale. If its still there tomorrow, I need to at least leaf through it and see if its really that bad.
Since when did anybody claim it was bad? :v:
I've always wanted to run it as a joke. Maybe one day, just for you guys~
I got my Shadowrun character commissioned. Very happy with the outcome!
How much did they charge you? Speaking of which, you're friends with that knightsolaire dude right? Any chance you could ask him to get in touch, he's not responding to PMs and I'm still waiting for him to pay me :v:
Since when did anybody claim it was bad? :v:
as an unabashed anime hater: Maid has potential to be ridiculous fun but you'd have to get rid of all the creepy shit and creepy shit is like half the book
as an unabashed anime hater: Maid has potential to be ridiculous fun but you'd have to get rid of all the creepy shit and creepy shit is like half the book
If you run it balls to the wall ridiculously, then it could be fun. But the minute someone tries for a second to be serious, the game is over.

so the combat in todays l5r game went spectacularly well we got called to defend some town on the wrong side of the biden pass just as the great clan war is starting to kick off. Totori's army is already holding the pass and this town is on the side full of oni, but fuck it we're going to help them anyway. We spend a day or two preparing and then get attacked by a swarm of bird oni that render our ground defenses pointless. First turn I do enough damage to one's wing to send it hurtling down to the ground, falling about 50ft and instantly killing it. I then hurt another a little and everyone else delays their turn because they can't hit things that are 50ft in the air. They bird things then start divebombing us, starting with me, except they miss because my armour tn is 35. So a pair of them just crash to the ground either side of me prone. Cue more birds divebombing the rest of the part with better results. The rest of my turns are spent executing birds that missed their divebombs and landed flat on their faces around me. E-Z.
You know what'd be a cool game to play? Dungeons the Dragoning. I've never even heard of anyone playing it though.

I want to play an RPG where combat is really lethal and the world is actually lawful, So if you kill anyone you have to do a really fucking good job cleaning it up and making sure the authorities don't find it, or at the very least can't trace it back to you. And if you get into a gunfight theres a good chance you'll die as well. Basically the opposite of most RPGs where you can get away with most anything.

(Well, the lethality part is based on the rules).
This is something the GM handles, not the rules. Any RPG can have a lawful world. Most sci-fi games play the world as being so nihilistic that nobody cares if someone dies, and most fantasy worlds they play it so that the authorities are braindead. I want to play it so that theres a fantasy town that actually gives a shit about their population, and in the future people care about murders as much as we do now.
Saw a picture in a W40k book. couldn't resist.
