I want to play an RPG where combat is really lethal and the world is actually lawful, So if you kill anyone you have to do a really fucking good job cleaning it up and making sure the authorities don't find it, or at the very least can't trace it back to you. And if you get into a gunfight theres a good chance you'll die as well. Basically the opposite of most RPGs where you can get away with most anything.
I always assume that sort of lawfulness is the default.
Yeah that's totally what I mean, in terms of the lawfulness.. Most sci-fi games play the world as being so nihilistic that nobody cares if someone dies, and most fantasy worlds they play it so that the authorities are braindead. I want to play it so that theres a fantasy town that actually gives a shit about their population, and in the future people care about murders as much as we do now.
I'm thinking about running a Shadowrun game with stuff like that in it, EG. you piss off a gang and you can expect to get shot at pretty much on sight by them, LEOs will raid your apartment if they can trace your activities to it. Something less Saints Row than the other SR games I've played in and more sneaky stuff.
so I had a baby in Paranoia it's name was O-R-GYS and then one of my fellow troubleshooters CONFISCATED IT I am so salty you would not believe
I think you need to buy it if it's cheap enough. Nothing like owning novelty RPGs.
Went back today, couldn't find it. Either he hid it in shame, or someone else bought it. I suspect the creepy-ass 60-year old dude with the cat ears. I bought the Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide and Advanced Race Guide instead, along with a new set of dice. Got a massive D20 that I will only use for the plot-critical rolls. Plus an actual, physical d3.
im the true anime hater obviously
LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I, LOR, AM THE BIG ANIME HATER!
call of cthulu is pretty lethal from what I remember of my read through l5r is pretty lethal too, we end up spending void points to reduce damage basically every encounter
Call of Cthulhu is a good example, but the problem becomes people can murder you because the authorities are corrupt or something. I want it sort of neutral, where the world isn't out to get you and stuff. L5R is the same way in terms of being able to murder people with no downside because of duels and stuff.

While I generally don't go for murderhobo attitudes I'd rather not play in an RPG where I have to be excessively paranoid about every single bad guy I kill, especially in a modern setting. But then I'm a fan of more cinematic, Indiana Jones-esque stuff so that's why.
Play Exalted as mortals.
that ends up with basically the same problem though, except this time around you don't even stand a remote chance if the authorities hate you and then they'll probably punch you into a duck because
that ends up with basically the same problem though, except this time around you don't even stand a remote chance if the authorities hate you and then they'll probably punch you into a duck because
The truth of the matter is that if you don't insult your betters, you're considered too far below them to really bother with. Also, playing as Mortals offers a unique play experience that is actually a lot of fun. As long as your ST isn't a jerk and doesn't just keep tossing Exalts at you willy nilly.
You know what'd be a cool game to play? Dungeons the Dragoning. I've never even heard of anyone playing it though.
I have actually played DtD, and it was certainly an experience. It was pretty fun but our party was of extremely varying skill levels so it was difficult for our GM to balance combat encounters so he just stopped. [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] The power to levitate is pretty hard to balance when you can just do it whenever for no cost.
As long as your ST isn't a jerk and doesn't just keep tossing Exalts at you willy nilly.
Well if he does that he's kind of doing something wrong, anyways. There's only, what, 700 celestials, in the entire world of at least 2 million people? That shining solar god-king you saw the other day is going to seem a lot less special if, a day later, you met a shapeshifting bear-woman who claims to be a lunar, then see a creepy emo-ish dude today who keeps saying something about Thorns and 'other abyssals'. And then, tomorrow, you see a weird, 6-foot-tall guy with completely black eyes and sharp red teeth who tells you to obey the laws of Cecelyne.
That just means you live in Nexus

From what I've heard L5R is a bit like that ed: I see you've thought about l5r already Could always play a CoC game where the authorities weren't corrupt. I've read a lot of Lovecraft, and I have no idea how closely related any given game is to the way things play out in his plots, but usually the authorities have nothing to do with events
I'll try to but I've not seen him around for ages. and it cost 50 dolla $$$
Thank you dude
You know what'd be a cool game to play? Dungeons the Dragoning. I've never even heard of anyone playing it though.
DtD was actually the first RPG system I ever was introduced to. It was pretty goddamn overwhelming when I had no frame of reference whatsoever, but it was really fun I remember. The group broke up though cuz there was lots of drama, that wasn't too fun.

Exalted is really not what he's looking for, at all
To be honest, if someone was to play a game of L5R where they are a bunch of Peasants, just fucking with various Samurai for fun, profit, and to de-oppress themselves, it could be fun if the GM doesn't mind having fun.
call of cthulu is pretty lethal from what I remember of my read through l5r is pretty lethal too, we end up spending void points to reduce damage basically every encounter
Combat is pretty serious shit in L5R - pick enough fights and you WILL run out of luck eventually [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] Add onto that how much damage katanas do and you're running a pretty high chance of being killed or crippled when you do get hit. [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] The more I get used to Eclipse Phase's combat system the more I can see how it works out. It's pretty hard to get yourself outright killed or destroyed in most combat, but on the flipside unless you're tough you can easily get yourself incapacitated.

I killed the player in question shortly thereafter. Oh yeah and I'm probs gonna make everyone pick a pregen. Creating a character, even with the new options in Transhuman, takes up a LOT of time (and creating a character for EP takes a different mindset than other games, and the setting itself introduces some pretty dense sci-fi concepts) and I only got a month to run it. Now I gotta figure out where in the solar system that would make for a good four-session adventure...
I killed the player in question shortly thereafter.
talk about a killer GM

You'll be throwing them into this REALLY blind otherwise. They'll be like "The fuck is a Pod?" or "Titan... like attack on titan?" and youll have to explain to them how everything works. Have them make characters, its the best way to learn it.

It largely depends on what environment the Octomorph is in, because they'll need some tentacles free to navigate. [editline]28th April 2014[/editline] Be sure to stress having a good mix of skills is crucial - more situations can be solved by networking, knowledge and social engineering than by killing stuff.

But then proceeded to fuck everything up by killing the guy we were looking for after he tried to drug us.
