right, I'm gonna look into warhammer fantasy a bit seeing as thats the most common result here. how flexible is the lore? if I wanted to make up some really dystopian city full of people for them adventure about it would that work?

That said a lot of the setting is already quite dystopian, there is a lot of inequality, persecution, state religion, etc. in a city like Altdorf.

You are allowed to worship Ulric, Shallya, ect, as long as it isn't the chaos gods. They are also more welcoming of foreign cultures, due to having a lot of them pass through on trade or diplomatic missions. WHF is a LOT less dystopian than 40k. It's once you get outside the major cities that you have problems with beastmen and mutants SWARMING in the forest, chaos invaders, cultists, necromancers, vampires, dark elf pirates, all kinds of nasty shit.

It was discussed in those books you sent me. 40k just takes the piss though.
so I'm looking at the warhammer fantasy book is there any suggestions that don't involve me buying a $100 boardgame
so I'm looking at the warhammer fantasy book is there any suggestions that don't involve me buying a $100 boardgame
We meant Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, not the tabletop war game silly.
We meant Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, not the tabletop war game silly.
I'm literally looking at the fantasy roleplay book right now and it's a boardgame
I'm literally looking at the fantasy roleplay book right now and it's a boardgame
wut/ That's not what it is though. Maybe that's the LATEST edition which is terribad anyways. Look up WHF RPG 2nd edition, that's the proper one!
But what about pathfinder society?
who gives a rats ass organized games are silly
wut/ That's not what it is though. Maybe that's the LATEST edition which is terribad anyways. Look up WHF RPG 2nd edition, that's the proper one!
my bad, whenever I look for a game I just go straight for the latest edition
my bad, whenever I look for a game I just go straight for the latest edition
I haven't tried the new edition but all you should need is a couple ten-sided dice, the rulebook and print off some character sheets.
my bad, whenever I look for a game I just go straight for the latest edition
terrible you should be ashamed stop even living you're not worth the air you breathe because the latest edition is bad and not the older one because it is newer and probably less cool and oldschool and streamlined to boringness maybe it even introduced eladrin which are the stupidest thing ever i mean seriously super elves that can teleport how is that a core race that's so goddamn stupid why would you ever do that and why are gnomes no longer a core race but instead fucking tieflings are how does that even make sense why are gnomes monster that's fucking racist and wizards probably suck because new editions hate fun and wizards are fun therefore newer editions hate wizards and make all their spells take half an hour to cast except the combat ones which are boring because they work the exact same way as the fighters spells and the barbarians spells and the rogues spells because they all have spells now because everyone has spells now and they all work the exact same way because everything is the same and nothing is different except everything because nothing is like it was in the old times because now everything is the same but it didn't use to be because they used to be very different except for all the non-spellcasting classes that are almost identical except for three or four defining features until pathfinder where suddenly everyone has unique magicalish power thingies but they are actually unique and make sense and not completely standardized and boring so it's okay and also it's not fourth edition so that means it's better than fourth edition because fourth edition is the worst and also teleporting elves are a core race and i already mentioned that but now i do again because nobody will actually read this whole text unless they have OCD

our first session of traveller is going well we've purchased a small army's worth of illegal weapons and cybernetics and are currently headed to planet that's been in a perpetual state of war for more than a generation, and then we've got some insanely difficult mercenary assignment while we're there it's gonna be awesome
my bad, whenever I look for a game I just go straight for the latest edition
RPG geek is a good site for figuring out which RPGs are most liked by people. Also, people do like the new warhammer fantasy, it's supposed to be easier for new players and quicker. But less depth. For new players, thats not really too important, but as time grows depth becomes super important.
I just realized my current character in Smas's Persona RPG can be summed up as 'Mexican Kamen Rider'... OLE!

dark heresy campaign started we found the planetary governor whom we were kind of supposed to be working for, and he was evidently nurgle-aligned since he'd been clearly eating all of his subjects then we blew him up, and since nurgle he exploded, and I got coated in gore GM said roll 1d10 for damage proceed to get righteous furied and take 10 wounds from acid gore (after 8 points of armor and toughness), putting me at 1 wound from not even a combat encounter and then he got hella huge and reformed into a giant mountain of flesh, and we had to redirect the moving city we were on (which was working to stay in the habitable belt of a planet with extreme night and day temperature differences) into the night side We nick-of-time managed to escape on a shuttle piloted by the loony old man who got us down to this hellhole in the first place (by crashing, admittedly), while meanwhile some super psyker kid/incarnation of a black sun whack or the like held the immense daemon maw off so we barely escaped and now have to figure out how to kill some giant daemon that feeds off heat energy in less than 6 months before the planet rotates around to sunny side and he wakes up
destroy the sun
And also blow up the planet, can't let it get any geo-thermal heat.
In hindsight, using Destruction (which destroys the remains utterly) to mercy-kill a weary old prototype of the bbeg's construct body wasn't the best option, considering our entire purpose going there was to retrieve said prototype construct bodies. Though considering that the artificer lost two of the ones we did retrieve (He stuck two of his brave goblins' souls into them but they completely botched their will save, wigged the fuck out and teleported away) and gave away the last one by letting an eccentric technology-minded orc king stick his soul into it (He got a new branch of his crafting guild out of it), it probably wouldn't have lasted long if we'd saved it.
