Question, since I'm a unabashed sucker for "Last of His Kind" (or in Adventure Time's case "One of the Last of His Kind") tropes, would I be able to play as a human? I want to be my original character Binn the Wizard who has a familiar, Blake the Frog.
you can play as a mutant and just be one of the very humanoid ones I didn't really see the point in having Human because a) there's like 3 living in canon, and two are arguably mutated at this point anyway and b) there's nothing really special about humans, doubly so in Ooo, so I'm not exactly sure what racial stuff to give them, which then creates issues with the Prince(ss) class. Which is renamed noble now to avoid clashing with existing Princesses. absolutely nothing stopping you houseruling it though, there reason I'm leaving the animal and mutant races so vague is because there's so many different things that live in Ooo that can be loosely put under those headings
Clearly you should just give them absolutely nothing.
Maybe I'll just do a 'limited races' section or something, for playing really rare races or for doing alternative universe stuff or like, just playing as finn and co

That being said, and this is gonna sound ridiculously Special Snowflake-y, but the fact that humans are all but extinct actually makes their humanity special (ergh I dislike using this word in this context), whereas in most fantasy settings there's so many of them that they're considered "mundane", to which I disagree with, but I digress. But in terms of mechanical benefits of playing as them, I have no idea since this sounds like your homebrew creation.

Stats are mostly your usual rpg fare, with a couple having different names because I wanted different ones. But yeah, like I said above; I'll probably add in a section for less-than-normal races.
This discussion reminds me of how ridiculous races could get in Gamma World. You would roll your two "origins" and get things like a cockroach yeti or a plastic vampire or an ectoplasmic rat swarm. Goddamn that game was surreal.
so we barely escaped the planet of terror in traveller we got our dropship jury rigged together, got it onto our main ship, but we blew a fuel line getting back up to orbit, so we lost power shortly into our jump away, and thus when we arrived at our destination we were stuck casting a distress signal for a few days however, we ended up getting saved by some alien scouts, and they want us to get some data from the local planet since the government won't let them land, albeit it took us quite a while to actually get this across both ways since their translation gear was totally shoddy but we made it, landed, fixed up our shit, and we've loaded ourselves full of cargo in any case so even if this alien thing doesn't pan out we are equipped to go trade and make some motherfucking money

A note on the drifting with the distress signal. I asked you to roll 1d6 for each day you were spend drifting. If you hadn't rolled any 6s it would have been a TPK. [editline]12th July 2014[/editline] 6s trigger the random encounter table.
wow, that's harsh
It wasn't out of the blue, there'd been a string of failures up to that point. Also yeah Traveller can be pretty unforgiving when your power is completely out and your life support has stopped working. [editline]12th July 2014[/editline] And you forgot to bring any method of fixing the fuel leak. Spare parts are your friend for that exact reason.
Trading is boring though.
It is but it's also super uninvolved so I can just do it every time we jump on my own Plus it's easy to make hella money with and we've established we'd need much more firepower to go after the space banditos who fucked us up
Just slap some engines on some asteroids and cruise them into whoever you want to fuck up.
So just be Orkz at all times. I see.
Just slap some engines on some asteroids and cruise them into whoever you want to fuck up.
Engines are like, the most expensive part of a starship though Realistic space systems are not very forgiving of sillyness in space
brain-fuckery
What's the first rule of D&D again? "Don't piss off the DM"?
What's the first rule of D&D again? "Don't piss off the DM"?
I would say it's "Have fun" but that's Rule 0. [editline]12th July 2014[/editline] Also you shouldn't be pissing anyone off at the table.
wow, that's harsh
well, Traveller is a game where you can die during character creation
well, Traveller is a game where you can die during character creation
okay that's harsh
It's okay though because even though there's always the chance of death, there's also the chance you come out of it a hilariously overpowered badass like our captain, aka a 80-year-old cyborg ninja chick
well, Traveller is a game where you can die during character creation
How do you die during character creation? You roll too high for strength and your body collapses under the weight of your rippling magnificent muscles?
How do you die during character creation? You roll too high for strength and your body collapses under the weight of your rippling magnificent muscles?
I guess it can be like in Baldur's Gate 2: if you roll too low on Constitution, you start out with negative HP or something like that.
How do you die during character creation? You roll too high for strength and your body collapses under the weight of your rippling magnificent muscles?
Your character goes through terms of careers which can include anything from military to scientist, if you get a bad roll you can end up losing stats, limbs or your life. As you do more career terms the more dangerous it gets for example I got shot after two terms of being mercenary security and lost a few stat points.

As you do more career terms the more dangerous it gets for example I got shot after two terms of being mercenary security and lost a few stat points.
Technically not true. You roll the same thing every time, unless you keep taking careers past the point of hitting old age and taking penalties for that.
Technically not true. You roll the same thing every time, unless you keep taking careers past the point of hitting old age and taking penalties for that.
And then once you hit 0 stat points from an old age roll you either fork over the dough or die but really, why anyone wouldn't just use anti-aging drugs the whole time is beyond me since they're super cheap for what they do, since crap stats can destroy you for the whole game, while a few thousand credits of debt can be solved in half a session if you have a ship
So I guess according to the GM Graggot's player will be playing a monk who, among other things, specializes in grappling. This is gonna be considerably more difficult now since monks have very good saves, especially Will. The only thing I'd be able to do is just blatantly accuse him of metagaming if he tries anything funny. Yet on top of that, he's playing a Lawful Neutral character, and consistently doing non-lawful acts (or does one significantly chaotic thing, like attempted rape) means the loss of your monk powers. So i guess we'll see next week.
why would anyone specialize in grappling ever that's like asking for the dice to betray you especially since any monster ever will pretty much guaranteed be better at it than you
why would anyone specialize in grappling ever that's like asking for the dice to betray you especially since any monster ever will pretty much guaranteed be better at it than you
Given the right feats it can actually come in handy, especially at lower levels. I've played a monk before with Improved/Greater Grapple and it worked out fine; quite a number of monsters just could not break free without their buddies helping out. But you have a point: no one, not even the monk, should specialize ONLY in grappling, especially by level 13 (the level we're playing at). One trick ponies are not cool.
why would anyone specialize in grappling ever that's like asking for the dice to betray you especially since any monster ever will pretty much guaranteed be better at it than you
Because wrasslin' dragons is cool
