Prequels aren't really all that bad when you think about how well they expanded the universe and tbh they did a decent job of making a prequel story. Even though the dialogue and direction of the movies were awful they still have a pretty good arc. Just reading the story of the prequels and the stuff they contributed to the universe on wookiepedia is somehow better written than the actual movies.

on their own they're bad movies
not terrible, but pretty bad.
as official star wars movies, they are a fucking disgrace

I'm saying they are bad movies but when taken out of the context of a movie and just focusing on the big picture story it's not that bad.
For example: If you have ever read the LoTR books then you'd know the Tolkien is pretty bad a writing. The dialogue is dumb, exposition and lore is forced awkwardly into conversations, many of the characters are under developed or completely non-existant, and the pacing is all over the place.
BUT
All that awkwardly forced lore and exposition is really the meat of the series and it's actually more fun to read about the history and culture of Middle Earth when it is taken out of the context of the book, which is a much more focused story. Since movies are better when telling specific stories in a focused manner, the movie trilogy focuses even more on the story and makes it much more personal, sacrificing exposition and fictional history lessons for better characters and pacing.
When you take out all the personal 'movie' elements that made the Prequels terrible and just look at the story out of context then you'd find that the Prequel story was pretty good for what it was trying to do.
It's like getting taught a history lesson, learning about Pearl Harbor is much better than just watching Pearl Harbor. There isn't really any cheesy scenes or awful dialogue in a history lesson, so just look at the Prequel story like you would read something from a history text book: summarized and with many details missing.
Just played D&D for the first time today with eight players that I work with. Seven of the players have never previously played and our DM has been playing for years. I can easily say that our DM made it a great first experience. It was a bit shaky at first, but we managed. Took a total of 3 hours to get all of our characters in order. And holy shit the role-playing was hilarious and exciting to do.
I had tons of fun.

Nine players... you should try it with 3-4 players next time. It's a lot more fun because youll be able to do more stuff.
So one of my players is a druid, and last session they escaped from a prison. They reached a border town, and in order to get across the border, they disguised themselves as a sheep. The guards investigated the sheep cart, and in order to distract them, the druid cast charm animal, and made a goat hump their sheep disguise. The monk got a sheep dick to the eyeball when he tried to look through his "viewing port".
Oh, and then they killed snake terrorists who tried to blow up the border.
The last movie, Revenge of the Sith, is actually pretty good. It has a really good story, great tone, and that last fight has the perfect balance between choreography and raw emotion.
The first two were shit tho.
Except for the fact that Hayden Christensen, aka The White Jaden Smith, is in it. And the entire dialogue on that lava planet. Fuck it, may as well just throw out the entire idea of scripts, pacing, characterization, fuck just throw out anything that isn't CGI and lightsabre duals, yeah, you'd be correct, it's then "pretty good." Good story maybe, but it was absolutely ruined with the fucking terrible and rigid acting of Hayden 'the emotional board' Christensen.

Why not just wild shape in to a sheep??
Why not just wild shape in to a sheep??
Then the monk would be out of a disguise. Plus this way was more entertaining.

Star Wars Prequals Special Edition, they mute all dialogue.

Man I don't think I've ever read something so ignorant and awful as this remark
I don't know whether to laugh or cry really
i disagree. i don't think you could ever call tolkien bad at writing, but his books definitely have superfluous masses of description and exposition that gets in the way of plot.

He knows how to create huge worlds but you can't say the book isn't awkwardly written in a lot of parts. The book has great descriptions of landscapes and the environment but it get tiring when he constantly describes what the characters ate for breakfast and how long they walked for and how they walked (the book has more walking than the movies its ridiculous) while awkwardly squishing exposition into dialogue.
The books are a fantasy that feels like they are based in reality which makes them so good. You hear more about the caution Gandalf has when the Ring is discovered and all the political guff at the Council of Elrond. He's a lot better at big picture stuff like worldbuilding but not on characters and other subtle and personal things. In the Silmarillion you can see that he really doesn't give a shit about the subtle details of stories, he likes to write LoTR like history books: significant events that are summarized and with a lot of details missing.
The book is supposed to be a mythological tale and it's exactly that: where characters and their personalities are either taking the backseat or are highly exaggerated in favor of telling a fantastical tale of heroes, monstrous creatures, gods, and magic (but in LoTR's case: with a realistic flair to it).
He's not exactly an awful writer but he definitely isn't a subtle one. It's kind of like the opposite of Metal Gear Solid, where Kojima is better at writing great characters but the main plot is all over the place most of the time.
DM of the Rings comes to mind as topical
Question for anyone who plays Shadowrun 5e:
On account of currently being the only member of our likely party of 3 with even a reasonable amount of cash (I'm currently building a street sam, to go along with a wizard and a physical adept I think), how easy is it to build a respectable matrix defense on a tight skill budget? I've got 140k to spend, although after I start burning into the weapons and cyberware that's going to vanish in a hurry, but since I don't want to completely screw the party before then, what should I invest into so we don't constantly get hacked? I've currently got the best commlink we can start with, and both Int and Wil of 3, but is there anything else I can get to keep my party's gear from all getting completely bricked
Although, admittedly, since I'm also the only one with money all of the gear worth protecting will probably also be my gear

Cheapest way to defend only your own gear is turning the wireless off and using cables, jammers are also nice, but all of that means you lose your gear's wireless bonuses or can't talk to the rest of the team via commlink.

Well, yea, but considering I'd prefer to have wireless available whenever possible (since I'm using a monowhip so avoiding that whole 'cube yourself on a critical glitch' thing is kind of essential) so, sans going fully silent, is what I'm asking for help with
Well, yea, but considering I'd prefer to have wireless available whenever possible (since I'm using a monowhip so avoiding that whole 'cube yourself on a critical glitch' thing is kind of essential) so, sans going fully silent, is what I'm asking for help with
Other than being a hacker yourself, there isn't really any better way. If you're getting hacked the best you can do is turn off your wireless.
Critical glitches are super rare unless you've got a dicepool of 3 or something so I wouldn't worry about that if you're planning on using it, it's as likely as having every dice come up as a 5 or 6. But yeah, without skills and a cyberdeck there's not a lot you can do other than blocking signal so potential hackers can't access your stuff.
Yea, guess I'll just forget it. Since it turns out we're not doing a street-level game anyway, I've rebuilt the crazy cyberware-decked-out sam I made originally (the one with the gauss rifle) because if you're going to go ham you might as well go full ham
ended up using almost all of the maximum amount of starting cash but it's okay because this character is incredibly silly and it looks like we're going for a full punk game anyway with this party comp so bring on the bloodshed and so forth
Gauss rifle?

In 5e the Thunderstruck is availability 12 for some reason
so you can start with an assault cannon
and since I'm so chromed up I can carry around HMGs there is zero reason why I wouldn't do this
Meanwhile I'm playing a Magician and for once I have like no spells that can cause the party indirect harm as a result of my using them.
Worst case scenario I use a spell with a high force and completely fuck up my drain resistance roll, knocking myself out.

Congrats on finally creating a wizard more likely to die from enemy fire than friendly fire

Fippe has one in Cro's SR game and refuses to let me use it despite me being specced for heavy weapons.
Wouldn't let me drive his APC either, and yet the instant I let him drive my van he crashes it.

But I'm going illusions.
Aka the spell class that Euphoria and Opium Den are in. :v:
Even if they got their names changed in SR5 they are still amazing spells.
Orgasm and orgy are clearly better names.
So that map I've been working on for the new Pathfinder campaign I'm running?

Full size is 5734x2867
Version with labels will be posted whenever I finish figuring out what the deal is with all those tiny islands. And if people are interested, I can post the .xcf, which kept track of which real-world places I sliced apart to make this map.
The worlddoc is currently 24 pages, still expanding on a shitton of it. It'll probably end up doubling that.

Honestly... I'm not sure what to think of this.
I mean don't get me wrong or anything the map looks absolutely spectacular(especially in comparison to what I have been making for my own potential D&D (5e) setting) but the archipelago making up the continents seems too obviously spliced together from Earth's sat images. Maybe if you took bigger closeups of the landscape to create the outline, then filled it in with more blank landscape, it could look better.
