only trust your other party members as much as your ability to take them out of action in a single round
Well I got that covered. Can you say the same imperial?
Oh my god that reveal was so sweet. We've been playing for months, and 14 fucking sessions, and I've been waiting to reveal it the entire time. Here's some fucking things that I did constantly that somehow DID NOT CLUE THE PARTY IN: 1. Had a very very keen ability to identify garlic (and then proceeded to get sick in a garbage can) 2. Never stepped foot inside of a place of living without being invited in. I literally stood outside several important events waiting to be invited in. This includes the apartment of another vampire as well as a dying old lady and a mansion full of bad guys. 3. Never crossed running water, always stepping around it or doing something else to bullshit that I couldn't go somewhere. 4. tried to bite people and turn them to "save" their lives. Granted, that's what werewolves could do but... 5. Was averse to any and all holy stuff. 6. Would discreetly "take aside" enemies whenever I was in need of healing so I could suck their blood (don't worry they're fine and not vampires). 7. Couldn't be seen in mirrors 8. Had a cape that allowed me to blend in with the shadows 9. Would hypnotize people in front of the party 10. Had a moon ring with mysterious magical properties 11. Had a demonic kukuri that is scorched with the blood of the vampire I inherited my powers from 12. Could shapeshift at will 13. I had an inconsistant backstory that any digging into would disprove. Any, at all. Basic search check. And so much fucking more... Have I mentioned that my character speaks with a terribly fake Minnesotan accent straight outta Fargo? Cuz that shoulda been the first tip-off.
What game are we even talking about here? My first assumption was D&D/Pathfinder but it sounds modern so my second guess is WoD. But even that doesn't sound entirely correct.

Only two of us (me and another superhero named Pinpoint, who has static shock like abilities) are traditional secret identity supers, although I guess I'm just a vampire pretending to be a regular mask.
So, over the next few months I'll be making a Chainmail shirt for one of the cast of Rollplay Solum, determined that with a D6 and ended up being Gen, luckily she's totally chill with it. It's funny, I've done text based roleplay for 17 years, but it's always been generic fantasy, never really touched DnD aside from a handful of novels.
Here's a question for all you GMs out there. What would you do if all your players, or player if you're doing a single player thingy, were given a quest with directions and all that just turned around and walked away as soon as it was given. Or perhaps even geasing themselves away from where the quest asked them to go. No explanation, just hearing out the quest and then silently walking away/saying "alright I geas myself to never enter that area".
Probably ask for a reason of some sort then start figuring shit out for where they're going instead.
And note down what the consequences of them ignoring it are, which I would recommend having whenever you plan something just as a useful tool for parsing NPC motivations.
Say that a balor descends from the heavens and threatens the PC with eternal damnation in the Abyss unless he turns around and takes the NPC's quest.

In this case, think in-story what the ramifications are if they don't follow the quest. Odds are good that something bad will happen to the world if they don't, right? Even if it's a personal quest they refused, what happens when they meet the NPC who gave it to them again?

Otherwise I'd just let them go if it's a player-driven thing. If they want to walk into a gigantic squid battle that's several levels above them, that's fine with me. I was thinking something along the lines of the Doctor Who episode Turn Left.
Holy poopbuckets Ravenloft takes quite a lot of preparation for a premade campaign [editline]21st October 2014[/editline] I'm only up to page 22 and I've already made all this crap :(
I'd either A) Let them do it and let them do their own thing, then have the consequence of the quest being avoided come up later to make them regret their decision
I honestly regret not doing this in my last campaign. The group almost let a boss kill the one being who could (and did) help them be able to defeat the Big Bad, but I talked them out of it. Watching them fuck everything up so close to the end would have been a great bit of entertainment for me. :v:
Finished rolling up my Arbites character for a DH game I'll be in soon. I'm gonna be THE LAW.
So while I was attempting to purchase a control rig in Shadowrun last night (since we just got a super-sexy VTOL) my license got called into question and I got arrested So now I have to choose between two weeks of jail time and a fuckload of fines, or being on-call to the popo to help out with hazardous situations (which incidentally also entails them keeping track of me) Gotta love it when a 5-die license check rolls all 6's
The security dudes were rolling against the quality of his fake ID.
Perfect time for your team to start murderboning everyone in your way, then?
Perfect time for your team to start murderboning everyone in your way, then?
I was out buying it on my own (and didn't bring any weapons aside from my hand razors) and failed to notice that it was taking a long time to do the ID check so when 5 cops rolled up I really didn't have any options I'm a decker, not the troll, not the mages, not the adept. I did not trust my odds against 5 armed and armored dudes with only my emergency weapon at my disposal, so not resisting arrest seemed like the best option at the time granted our troll does know the chief of police so maybe I'll be able to get out with a warning. Guess we'll have to discuss our options first (since I'm at least allowed to call people right now)

Awful, 8.8/10, go to jail and reroll your char.
Perfect time for your team to start murderboning everyone in your way, then?
At a security check point? Probably not the best idea.

So I'm still planning a campaign for my friends. I've probably got a month or two before I'll be in the chair of the DM, but I like planning and making this stuff so I'm trying to think up interesting stuff. I'm trying to figure out how to keep them in one section of the city they're in, where the main quest is. I'm thinking of either A: having the lord of the city really hate poor people, so the poor district they're in is closed off; you need essentially a passport to get out, with guards posted at every street and alley exit. or B: just have everything outside much higher level than them, and they'll have no real objective.
military blockades are relatively common also, apply plagues and no one will go anywhere bonus points if you actually model the plague damage

It makes more sense than saying "I hate poor people" because in essence the poor people are the ones that pay the most taxes. Plus, it makes it easier for you to counter-bribe or outfight the guards. They're really in it for the money, and a few extra GPs aren't going to persuade them into taking on a two meter tall barbarian with a club the size of a man's leg, at least not until the lord's garrison arrives.

Not only will YOU be ready to expand on the world by then, but now they'll be more interested due to it being such a looming thing in the past

Unless they have magical assistance or such advanced technologies as bathing, quarantines, and the dreaded sewage drain, in which case yeah it's best to rent a room and wait it out.
