It belongs in a museum!
I like the differences between magic and psionics and how that works into the style of play and cool character designs and stuff. What i don't like is when people only want to use psionics or magic because they are min maxing to hell and back. Other than that its really just whatever floats your boat, mind powers or mystical powers.
That's another reason why I don't like it. It's often abused.
Psionics are kind of utterly broken, yeah.
Hostile Empathic Transfer comes to mind, aka the power that lets you straight up transfer up to 50 points of damage from yourself to an enemy, effectively meaning they get 50 damage and you get healed by 50.
There is a will save for half damage, but it goes straight through any damage resistance or immunity, and even ignores regeneration.
Best used in combination with the standard Empathic Transfer as a Psychic Warrior with a big Con scores, ensuring you have a large amount of HP, and the ability to transfer the damage of an ally to yourself, both healing them and giving you more "ammunition" for hostile empathic transfers.
oh yeah and you can augment it to transfer even more damage.
[sp]and also to transfer the full damage to everyone within a radius of 20 feet of you.[/sp]
This is a 3rd level power.
Completely balanced, not OP at all.

Forever waiting on that game you proposed.
I'm gunna try and read the entirety of the AD&D1e players manual, and then the DM handbook later at some point. I really want to get into the GMing side of things; if this is the best way to do it, I'm willing to waste my life on it.

Also holy shit the art on that iron god stuff is great. Really puts the shitty art in the old AD&D stuff to shame.
Ugh, psionics.
It's D&D, not XCOM. Can't we just stick to magic?
Psionics are cool though.
The Aegis is hands down one of, if not *the*, best martial class out there.

Unfortunately the AP doesn't give you the good stuff until way later, we're almost done with Book 1 and all I got was a shitty inferno pistol.

AD&D art is great, how dare you! It's more unique than the generic fantasy art that is used by most RPGs anymore, PF included. Sure it's weird and mostly not great but it's at least it's own thing.
Also, reading through the AD&D books to learn how to play? Good luck buddy, that shit is so badly sorted and indexed I can't even begin to describe.

Sure, its unique, true. Buts its still pretty subpar.

Not doing so bad so far. I can skim a lot of stuff because the group I play with ignores a lot of rules (like racist rules, all races can play whatever class and have whatever stats, but we keep some simple bonuses, like infravision or better search checks for elves).

The 'racist' rules were to make humans matter at all. They get 0 bonuses at all, so letting them be ANYTHING, and giving them the unique class of paladin was a balance choice. Stat requirements were also there to make certain classes be rare, though letting people move stats around is fair enough. Otherwise no one really has much reason to ever NOT be an elf, they are straight up the best in AD&D without limitations. The only boon humans would get with your rules is no level cap, but that pretty much never comes up.
Different people, different styles I guess but why not just play 3rd edition/PF/5E if you aren't going to use large chunks of AD&D rules?

You know, I was just thinking that while sitting here. I dunno. I guess its because some are tedious, and others are just sort of... there. Though most of our group is new and just picked what race sounded better; we've got an elf, a half elf, two humans, and me, a kobold (gnome stats, but I take +1 damage from anti-dragon weapons. I think kobolds are funny, what can I say).

I am not sure, honestly. I asked our DM today and he said the guys he normally play with, which are guys in their 30s (we're in the range of 16-19), didn't like them, so he never learned the rulesets. I'll try and familiarize myself with those rules at some point if he doesn't, and since I will hopefully take over the DM role, I can eventually push our group to switch over to 3.5 or better.

I've been looking at 5E, and it's very reminiscent of AD&D. Imagine AD&D with not-shitty rules. Monsters have more uniqueness to them, characters get customization but aren't drowning in choices, stats cap, overall bloat reduction. You should check it out if you like AD&D.

I'll give it a look.
Also, holy shit, Clerics can form their own Church, and later build a Religious Stronghold with between 20-200 religious followers, many of which can be men-at-arms.
Clerics can build armies. These rules are crazy as shit.

So could fighters. Reaching 7th level or so is meant to be a DIFFICULT achievement since you had to survive all the previous levels, and in AD&D... good luck. Clerics could also, on top of that (if they were evil) build armies of the undead due to having both Rebuke and Animate dead. Clerics in AD&D were pretty good. They also got one of the nastiest spells in the game for low level: Hold Person.

Okay, this is all confusing me. My thief got to level 5 after one or two lengthy playsessions, and only two dungeons.
Either the way my DM does experience is not in the AD&D ruleset or this is a different type of 'level.'

some dms like to level you up every session as opposed to relying on set xp gaints

Your DM either sped up experience gain or filled the dungeon with hundreds of monsters. Not that that is really a big deal, each DM can run their game how they like. Also I don't know about A&D 1e, but in 2e at least thieves tend to level up more quickly than other classes - for instance a thief hit level 5 at 10,000 experience, a fighter hit it at 16,000 experience, a cleric hit it at 13,000 experience and a mage hit it at 20,000 experience. There was also some optional rules on awarding experience for specific things and one of the ones for thief was awarding experience based on the amount of gold you were obtaining.

Yeah, I'm slightly higher leveled (thief) than the fighters, MU, and the cleric. But we ALL gain experience equal to our gold gain along with the normal experience from mobs (which there weren't TONS of, but a decent amount).

No good stuff in Book 1?
Sounds like someone missed the Autograpnel.
Hot damn do you need to prepare a lot of characters for Legend of the Five Rings
And they all have the same surname shit gets confusing quickly
Now you know how I felt having like 30 NPCs in Exalted.
Most of them only showed up once and then were never seen again.

You guys should see our "Bullshit" folder in the Magical Burst Dropbox. Here's an album of a few notable entries.

My GM has taken to calling our PTU game "One-hundred and thirty-three pairs of knee-high boots" thanks to the townfull of NPCs.
Also he pointed out that the name of the arcade is a fucking anagram for the villain team that runs it and I am so mad.
Anybody who's still playing 1st or 2nd edition D&D:
There's a mega-dungeon being made for it now, Castle Triskelion, which has been a work in progress for a couple of years now. It's a fairly nice piece of work, very reminiscent of Castle Zagyg/Greyhawk Ruins. The blog also has a few other posts that might be interesting for such players. There's a new room added daily for perusal as well.

Too bad there's probably 50 people max who are ever going to play it. If even that.
