Mine will be "I'm so sorry for all this!"
I always liked "You can try"
Mine probably is "We're gonna run this game within the next couple of months"
Not nearly as optimal for people that have a life.
not my fault my sleeping cycle is much, much more optimal compared to your pleb one B) Yeah, having a life sucks. I know, right. :v:
Mine is probably "Dear god, why?"
Also, use 24hour clock and state the GMT offset when talking about times with people from all over the place, none of this "Eight o'clock mountain time", what the fuck does that even mean? Say 2000 GMT-7, then everyone knows exactly what time you're talking about.
Use this: http://www.epochconverter.com/ Post date times such as this: 1416096000 Which says "Your time zone: 11/15/2014, 6:00:00 PM GMT-6:00" (notice the culture should be respected for the date format) All conversions solved? (and no confusion about "what is that in my local time")
Mine is probably "Good luck with that." I tried to do the "You can try" thing back when I did Exalted and it just resulted in my players getting mad at me because I wouldn't give them a straight answer about whether or not something was possible. Thing is, it's Exalted, so as long as you aren't trying to 1. revive someone as not-a-zombie, 2. move an immovable object, or 3. time travel, you can literally try anything. Especially as a Solar. It's just that most things aren't as simple as "I destroy the moon." "The moon is destroyed, congratulations.", and it usually requires some work to get to whatever the end goal is. I probably should have made that clearer when I was running it, of course. Also not railroaded with a shitty plot the players didn't really care about.
My favourite phrase as a GM is "shit hold on a second let me check" followed by "well yeah you can try"
I'd say the most commonly used phrase for me as a GM would have to be just heaving a massive sigh.
Tomorrow is the next session in the World of Darkness game I'm participating in. Instead of making another goofy character (Rest in peace jimbo. I could not have asked for a better first-time character.) I've decided to make a former spec ops soldier with speciality in recon, assault rifles and explosives. Hopefully I can kill the stuff I am supposed to kill this time around. I also made sure to pick the Common Sense skill. Since that has been one of the things that fucked me over the first time. :v:
Working on a country map for the campaign I'll eventually throw together for my friends. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/LvzDF4.png[/t] I don't really know the procedure for proper maps, so I just made one that looks nice. The general premise is there is some weird shit going down. Caravans and travelers are disappearing while out on the roads. While caravans are found, either completely wrecked or just sitting their with whatever they were transporting still intact, the bodies are never found, but copious amounts of blood are. So the players are sent out to investigate, because the King has few men to spare as he fights a losing war in another region. This will eventually lead to a reveal of undead, and then later a lich commanding them. They kill lich, try and hunt down his phylactery before he comes back to life, etc. etc. semi-generic story so on and so forth. Anyways, what do you guys think of the map? No names or anything on the map, but I'll get stuff like that in there eventually.
I've started world building out of my comfort zone, making a high fantasy setting. I've only ever played low fantasy, apparently in high your PCs don't die of tuberculosis alone and unloved so I'm hoping to stretch my legs with this. So far, I've figured out how magic works and named all my gods. Now I'm just stuck with what races to include since DnD and PF seem to have 'it's like an elf BUT' out the ears. I have desert and coastal elves who both have a heavy emphasis on water. There's also humans, dwarfs, orcs, gnnolls, ogres and Giants. Everything else is a specific race limited to certain areas. Does this sound like a Good start?
half ogres with tuxedos and top hats please.
This isn't Arcanum.
The game I play in on saturdays basically broke in half as me and two other players got fed up of the other two, a loud, impulsive powergamer and his girlfriend or roommate or whatever who barely plays so her character is basically a second turn in combat for said powergamer. RIP.

Does this sound like a Good start?
For races, perhaps you might think beyond just the fantasy staples of Human, Dwarf, Elves and Orc, being the most common. In mythology alone, there are hundreds of really great races just waiting to be picked. Maybe your world is animalistic, and human, satyrs, hobgoblins and yeti-like creatures are the most common races. I've thought a lot about worldbuilding, and I have a few useful tips, outside of just races. Consider adding something new to your fantasy setting, something that sets it apart. Dont downplay magic, have it something very unique, like ASOIAF, where very few people can actually practice it. (For high fantasy, your PC's could be among the few) Or if its relatively common, have it be very mundane. The Kingkiller Chronicle has a system where it takes a tremendous amount of effort do something relatively mundane, like light a candlewick. (For high fantasy, your PCs could be among the exceptionally talented) Also, pick something that sets your setting apart. Consider changing the time period for example. Most fantasy universes take place in the equivalent medieval times, but it's super interesting to mix it up. Perhaps set it in the bronze age, or maybe something like the renaissance. Basically, if your going to put in effort to make a whole universe, don't just have it be the same old same old. Do something that'll make your players invested simply on the basis of how unique the world is.
Definitely needs some rivers, and the big empty space in the ocean is begging for some islands, or some text.
Alright, thanks, I'll put some rivers in. The ocean is empty because I was going to put the Legend and a compass and etc. in there. There might be an island. I'm still thinking up ideas. Thanks, though.
Just out of curiosity, what are you using to build the map?
Photoshop and lots of stock clip art that (imo) looks decent. I can't draw for shit, so most (except for the land outlines and roads) are just other pictures sized down and made somewhat clear. Was going for an old, hand-drawn style, or at least close.
you don't HAVE to add islands, after all, there's no islands off the west of portugal, just ocean
you don't HAVE to add islands, after all, there's no islands off the west of portugal, just ocean
What about the Azores?
What about the Azores?
OFF the west, not to the west. besides, at that map scale you probably wouldn't see islands in the ocean if they weren't right next to the continent
Speaking of maps, here's the map of the Pathfinder campaign I'm in: [t]https://i.imgur.com/pGbs4lR.jpg[/t] Full 6000x6000 image.
OFF the west, not to the west. besides, at that map scale you probably wouldn't see islands in the ocean if they weren't right next to the continent
Oh ok fair enough. I think adding islands is a good suggestion, though. Since the shape of the continent is arbitrary, you might as well change it for the sake of composition.
Well I think it looks better. Thoughts? [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/2UJVOH.png[/t]
Well I think it looks better. Thoughts? [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/2UJVOH.png[/t]
In a twist, make it so that there really is a giant ass kraken there that's just hanging around :v:
Well I think it looks better. Thoughts? [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/2UJVOH.png[/t]
Much better, I think the compass colors are ugly though.
Much better, I think the compass colors are ugly though.
Yeah, the lighter part of the compass rose looks gross. I like the dark red, but the light tan looks blurg on the ocean.
Having stolen an entire parade of expensive mechas, the BBEG came back to reclaim at least some of them, offering a hostage in return. As soon as he dropped off the hostage (none too lightly I might add) and had some shit reclaim a few stolen mechas, I immediately fired off a volley of missiles at the guy who none-too-smartly made an appearance himself rather than sending some robot or holograph or something. I then chained some mad crits, reclaimed our loot, and captured the BBEG as a hostage. Once again, a 16-year-old girl. Piloting a walking battleship.
Yeah, the lighter part of the compass rose looks gross. I like the dark red, but the light tan looks blurg on the ocean.
Its the only decent compass I can find that I can make transparent. I'll try and edit the colors tomorrow.
