Does anyone play D&D on Tabletop Simulator? Got it as a gift for Christmas.
The ability to upend the table every time you get a critical failure is a great boon.
So I'm trying to plan out a campaign with D&D 5E and I want to use a different universe, where magic users are more like the benders from the Avatar series where whatever application they can find for their bending type (which can be almost anything) is a new spell for their arsenal and whenever a player reaches a point where they can learn a new spell, they can make shit up based on their bending type and have me approve of it. The thing is, I'm not exactly sure how I'm supposed to implement it properly into 5E; It's a pretty wild thing but I don't want to use GURPS after seeing extremely polarizing opinions of it. My current idea is to replace all the magic based classes with only two of them; a class that uses conventional weapons alongside magic and a class that focuses entirely on magic. If anyone can suggest anything better, I'll be very grateful.
What you're looking for is basically Sorcerers, at least as I like to interpret them. EG in Pathfinder I had a Starsoul Sorcerer and I fluffed all his spells as being somehow spacey; magic missiles were shooting stars, scorching ray was a solar flare, etc. etc. So, basically, what I'd recommend doing is gutting the existing Sorcerous Origins, assuming you don't want dragon-scaled mages to be the only mages in the world, and make some new ones up. For example, see Elsa from Frozen. Sorceress, but also completely passable as a water/snow/ice bender, or something like that.

The people I currently play with like being railroaded and handheld though, and I just don't enjoy that for more than a session or two.
Actually, the still-in-playtesting Pathfinder Kineticist is literally exactly what you're looking for. Look up the Occult Adventures Playtest and take a look at the Kineticist class.
So now all the magic stuff is sorted, all I need now is how to balance a 1st Level flight capability since one of the races I'm adding is a harpy. The current restrictions are that you can only take one object in each of your bird feet (weapons included) and that you can only use light armor but I feel like there should still be more since it can still be used to break certain challenges, like getting lost in the outdoors or just flying high to avoid enemies. [editline]27th December 2014[/editline] I've been thinking of a height limit under certain conditions but it just doesn't sit right with me for some reason, like I need more.
You could go with the Spyro route and only allow gliding
A race with flight should have level adjustment.
Decided to just go with gliding in the end.
oh god eww that's disgusting
Only scrub harpies who can't fly bother to become adventurers. Just like all those noble outcast drow.
You might want to look at Raptorans from Races Of The Wild for a race with flight without level adjustment. You can then fluff it up and change stuff a bit.
THE FOOTBOW THE FUCKING FOOTBOW im done
I want to use it as a non-flying race. I want to go prone and start shooting shit with a footbow.
I actually put this down as the reasoning for their lack of flight, are you watching me right now?
clearly, PC harpies should have their wings clipped that would be an actually decent explanation and be a great story hook

The problem with the level adjustment suggestion/comparing it to previous editions of D&D or Pathfinder is that 5e doesn't do level adjustments, nor does it handle a lot of things the same way as previous editions.
:zoid: 'Nam tonight! Well, hopefully. Get on Steam and into the group chat ASAP :zoid:
There's something happening here. And what it is ain't exactly clear.
Have fun kids! Don't get impaled by punji sticks!
Don't worry, I'm the medic, it'll be fine.
First to die
I rolled all 1s for combat ability and fitness, probably.
I rolled all 1s for combat ability and fitness, probably.
Last to die.
Last to die.
Third in the line, after he fails to fix up two wounded NPCs.
So I'm going to try and set up a "After the Bomb" (All Flesh Must Be Eaten) game. In such a setting, 'zombies' are basically people who die in heavily irradiated zones/cities, and come back to life as horrifying mutants who are nearly impossible to kill. I want to make a game where the players are more afraid of fighting the monsters (with AFMBE's combat being extremely lethal) than they would be in any other setting. But I'm having a few problems. I want this to take place in a city, but I'm not sure how exactly to do this. I was thinking google maps or something of a city, or google street view or something. Do you guys have any ideas of how to run something like that? I might just be overthinking it.

Or you could just use Google Maps as a base and outline a more simplified version of the city that's easier to manage.
Crits are lame I said. They don't do much damage I said. After hitting 100+ damage in one round with a Slayer using a keen Elven Curved Blade, I'm singing a different tune.

Pathfinder monks are fun I nearly killed myself punching a demonic landshark (since it's skin was covered in acid and I got a bad string of saves), got knocked out and dragged away, lost a finger, but when the party finally arrived and killed it I claimed it's feet and had them made into kick-ass gloves also I had three drinking contests with the dwarf and we're currently tied (1-1-1, with the last being we both failed the save by the exact same amount)
Anything in the way of tabletop gaming support on a tablet? My laptop is borked...
Yeah, dry wipe markers work on glossy screens.
