If a SURGE is statted, you can kill it.
you can kill anything in Shadowrun some things are just really fucking smart it's one of the best parts of the game, even a dragon is possible to take down if you're very well prepared and it (somehow) isn't
Holy crap have I been busy the past few weeks. And I come back to hearing about a new supplement for Shadowrun 5th! Which doesn't fix anything about the system, at all. Oh noooooooo Is that a Pixie Marine I hear 'round the corner?
MY TIME HAS COME
Would have been my time too, but they didn't include playable AIs. well I suppose they'll release them in the Matrix sourcebook, due to be out in 2017.
Would have been my time too, but they didn't include playable AIs. well I suppose they'll release them in the Matrix sourcebook, due to be out in 2017.
You have my sympathies.
Wait is that an actual estimate on that? Christ.
No, but given the rate of supplements they're releasing I wouldn't be surprised. Catalyst Labs only has three or four full time staff, the rest being freelance writers and such, and currently they're focusing on the non-RPG Shadowrun merchandise like the card game or board game or whatever.
Wait is that an actual estimate on that? Christ.
Hey, you have no reason to complain until you start waiting for expansions from R Talsorian. They've had a Gundam sourcebook series for Mekton Zeta fully finished and translated since 2003, and it's been in 'coming soon' status since. Mekton Zero was teased for years, and it just got kickstarted last year.

I thought they faded away sometime in the early '00s [editline]1st January 2015[/editline] also belated happy new year to everyone, may we see many interesting splats for our favorite games (I'm holding out for Feng Shui 2 and its Miami '86 juncture)
Highlights from Iron Gods Pathfinder game: -Party received the +1 chainsaw from dead orc barbarian. I made it a death sentence to any person who made warhammer 40k ork jokes or references. Half-orc barbarian defies edict and WAAAAAGHS everywhere. Party also aquired plasma grenade, made it a guaranteed death sentence if any jokes to the plasma stickies from Halo were referenced. Edict being followed so far. -party finds out identity of Hellion, the current big bad guy of book two [sp]who turns out to be an AI with the ability to grant divine power to its followers. The more intelligent members of the party (ie not the barbarian or rogue) interprets this as "an intelligent magic item, except created from technological means". Actually makes sense since that's probably how people in a fantasy world would see an AI.[/sp] -I get to use the coolest phrase I could think of: "You are creatures of meat and bone and blood. But I? I am [sp]an Iron God."[/sp] -Half-orc barbarian WAAAGHS against Hellion when they encounter him [sp]in his robotic chassis[/sp]. Utterly baffled when Hellion casts a spell on him. Ripped apart when he is grappled and constricted. -Android alchemist now has wings that are comprised of the synthetic iron in an android's blood since the nanomachines in her bloodstream didn't know how to cope with fucking wings. In short: alchemist's wings now bleed profusely. -Halfling rogue/bard shoots a gigantic spider with his timeworn laser rifle. The rifle glitches and overcharges, doing more damage. Also the halfling landed a critical hit. The huge spider exploded immediately because I didn't give a fuck about hp because that was so cool.
There's a /tg/ thread going on debating on what you would do if a party member was turned into a high level magical item, and the only way to change them back is to break it. It eventually evolved into a discussion about a group of your typical adventurers being turned into enchanted clothing and armor, acting like the Voices in a game of Everyone Is John to a level one NPC (who is either a QT girl or a very convincing/very reluctant crossdresser) who found them laying around.
party finds out identity of Hellion
the most obvious AI name since Icarus
the most obvious AI name since Icarus
Of all the Iron Gods (Unity, Hellion, Casandalee) I'd have to say the third is the least obvious, Unity being so obvious a peasant from Dark Ages Europe would nod sagely and go "yep totally a machine intelligence". Unity still looks kick-ass tho
100% not evil, yep, nothing amiss there.

Pretty much only combat. The adventurers continue to fend off the whole party-turned-ambush situation. With the help of her crystal ball, Layla notices that our foes seem to have some dark magical mojo hanging off of them. We're not sure if it's some sort of mind control or if it's just their weird animism magics (they sprouted animal parts that matched their outfits- turtle shells, fox tails, etc). Zed discovers a new option when hacking enemy barrier generators- overloading them KOTOR-style, dishing out some modest damage and rendering the device into useable salvage. Layla's wobbuffet punches out like 4 dudes. Tara's flareon attempts to cut through a welded door, but is thwarted by a beartic on the other side. Josia calms a pair of carbink (this complex is part of a cave system) who seem to be trying to evacuate some sort of crystal chest or idol or something from the complex, and they tag along with us. Josia's rapidash gets shot the fuck out from underneath him by a pair of goddamn hyper beams. Layla gets knocked the fuck out by a ninetails. Tara's aggron knocks the fuck out of that beartic with one hit. By the time we finish those rooms the rest of the adventurers had finished fighting off the assailants in the rest of the complex, save the final chamber where the shrine princess and her advisor and who knows what else are. This is what happens when you try to ambush ~140 adventurers, all of whom have pokemon and most of whom are capable of fighting by themselves. They didn't even try to poison us first or anything! Their own pokemon and mooks weren't slouches by any means, but traps work better when they aren't so blindingly obvious, you know? New Years D&D oneshot I shall recount in more detail later, but for now I'll just say that a party of 7 first-level rogues, all of whom have conflicting, Paranopia-esque hidden objectives, is a hell of a time.

So I've been thinking of getting into DnD with a couple friends of mine who've never played it (neither have I), I was wondering if this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786965592/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=0C7A50QKQ2JWN14P0XVP&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop would be a good purchase for beginners like us. Also if there are any other things that'd make our first game good worth purchasing for first timers, let me know.

After half a dozen games or so you'll most likely want to substitute the actual books if you're going to continue playing. It's a much better alternative to shelling out roughly 10 times it's prize for the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual and then ending up not wanting to play it anyway, though.
I was also wondering if I should buy some extra dice, the starter edition says it comes with some but apparently that may not be enough for us to comfortably play without passing them around.
If you don't want to pass dice around at all you will most definitely have to buy extra dice. I'm pretty sure that the starter set has just one of each type of dice. Everyone will need to use a 20 sided die on a regular basis, because it's the type of dice you use for the vast majority of actions, so i'd personally recommend getting one d20 for everyone, optimally. The other types of dice are primarily used for damage rolls, you will almost never use them outside of combat. Personally I don't think it's a problem to share these among your players, but a lot of attacks deal multiple dice of damage, which is a pain in the ass if you only have one die, so i'd recommend buying a couple extras. The starter kit covers the first five levels, for those levels i'm pretty sure 3d4, 6d6, 3d8 2d10 and 1d12 is going to cover you 99.9% of the time.
MY TIME HAS COME
Pixies in giant mechas, aka human sized mechas 'cause theyre only giant to them.
So today I ended up in a situation where my character tried to bluff an enemy to back down, by threatening to shoot him in the dick. Chained two crits, got over triple his score. He backed off a ledge in fear and knocked himself out.
So update time. Split the group into a good and evil campaign group in the same world, because the good characters were being too good and the evil guys literally collapsed an entire city's sewer system, burnt down a shipyard, an orphanage, two taverns and killed a puppy. Then they became pirates. So... I have two of my players play in both campaigns, because I trust them not to meta that shit as the evil characters are now the antags. Problems have arisen however as the most socially awkward kid in the group decided to play the fucking bard and is now the face of the group. He literally says NOTHING when I try to interact with him as an NPC or anything. The rest of the group is pissed because his inaction got them deported from an entire country and almost lynched by a group of Steppe Nomads. This got to the point where the party monk messaged me asking if he could swap one of his high stats to Charisma so he could have an IC reason to be the face of the party as he was really mad about that session. (The better members of the group try to actually reflect their stat values into their character's play style, it's great) Of course I said yes, because while hilarious, this can't really continue. I don't know what to do, the guy's usually good with RP, though never in the position of a party leader. No clue how to help the guy either. The monk's brother joined the campaign, he's 13 and was more interactive than the other guy. This guy and another member of the group are some sort of fleshy planks of wood I'm pretty sure. Holy fuck. They don't fucking do anything, they don't interact with the party. I've done everything I can think of to draw them in, I give vivid descriptions of as much as I can, I give them interesting NPCs, plot hooks, landmarks, settings. The entire campaign is being improvised as we go as well, which makes it so much harder on me, I can't think of anything else I could do to help. This is also a pretty long run group, they were playing DnD before I joined the group, so it's not like they're new to the game or uncomfortable with the rules or anything. Idk what it is. I'm tempted to issue an ultimatum, basically step up and either play the character you rolled, or roll a character the way you're going to play. That or they are welcome to quit. But I hate being so totalitarian with people.
