If a Hunter in your game does anything to a member of the Gentry, or even learns anything about them then you've fucked up playing the Fae.
Fae can get fucked, they're the worst of the lot. They also give off a very rapey vibe.
I'm not familiar with WoD: Hunter (or the WoD system in general). Wouldn't characters be built specifically around hunting monsters, rather than characters (who still might be soldiers) who just stumble in to these things?
Also, I want the capability for shit like passive bullet bending and telekinetic bee control. :v:
heyhey if you ever want to play Weird Wars you just let me know

except for all the god machine bullshit
I was struggling to think of Tactics, not having my book to hand. I'm fairly sure they have Tactics to deal with Changelings though, who I think inherit the weakness to iron?
Only Cold Iron, as far as I know.

Ugh, that shit is so fucking bad. I feel like Fallen Angels would do better with a renaissance sorta theme, the game should play out like the Divine Comedy or Paradise Lost. Lost angels who believed they could dethrone god. It should be melodramatic and epic, you're playing a fucking demon after all, you should actually give these guys power, not just make them scared little rats.
And all the Cyber shit makes it super fucking lame. It seems dated even though it was released last year.
Also, it barely has any sort of christian mythological theme at all, and what's the point of that when you're making a game about demons? If you're going to do a game about Angels & Demons, do a fucking game about Angels & Demons, not cyberbullshit.

Try old WoD Demon. Demon: the Fallen.
Try old WoD Demon. Demon: the Fallen.
That's a little better, but the general design of the book feels more culty than religious. If that makes sense.
Wait wait wait, nWoD has cyberdemons?
Wait wait wait, nWoD has cyberdemons?
The World as we know it is governed and run by the God Machine, a literal machine that is all around us. Gears turn inside the crawlspaces of abandoned building, it sends constructed Minions, Angels, to facilitate its will on Earth. Each Angel is deconstructed after its mission, they have no distinct personality and only the will to obey. If they think for themselves, they fall and become a Demon.
You basically play as a rogue Agent from the Matrix and have access to all those cool powers, little shortcuts in reality and the like. It's styled as a Cold War style game, you're operating in enemy territory after all, the God Machine is always looking out for its rogue Angels, and Angels themselves are tasked to deconstruct you on sight, you're hiding within humanity. Better to reign in hell on earth than serve in heaven right?
It's a really cool system, I can see why people might not like it but I'd love to run a game of it or play in it.

I feel like the system itself, all the rules and shit, are mostly fine, but the actual concept is flawed to all hell. Demons shouldn't be afraid of god on earth. Earth should be neutral ground. Demons should be the super high power game, and they blew it.
And like I said, they shouldn't just be cyber stuff, they just shouldn't. You have so much christian, jewish, and islamic mythology to draw on, and you choose to pretty much scrap that and just make it cyberpunk. You could have demons from the different rings of hell, in service to different archdemons.

Your Demons could well believe they represent the demons represented in Jewish, Christian or Islamic mythology. It's been established in nWoD that figures such as God and the Devil either don't exist or are so far removed from it as to not factor into the world. It wouldn't make sense to have Demons in the sense that you're after, Geist offers the closest alternative with its Underworld that rolls mostly based off of Ancient Greek mythology, the River Styx and all that. It's divided by rivers and the further in you get the more messed up everything gets. It's also not Cyberpunk, it has a cold war theme but that's not to say Demons aren't high powered. They're up there with Mages with prep time and Giests as the most powerful beings in the World of Darkness.
Hell, now that I think about it there's nothing different beyond the fact that Descent doesn't suffocate under the metaplot as Fallen did. There's still a God of ambiguous nature instead of Abrahamic, he has servants who follow his will unquestioningly and the Demons perhaps thought they knew better. They broke the mold and fell into Hell, only now Hell is Earth.

Something worth noting, imo, about DTD, is the fact that you're still looking for hell. By the book, Hell is different for every demon. Whether it's a place, a state of mind, or just simply an idea, all demons are looking for their own personal kind of hell.
And Funk, if you don't like DTD's default setting, here's a hint: Change it. There's literally nothing saying you have to run it with the God-Machine and all the techno-espionage shit that's there by default, and you could very well run it with a Judeo-Christian God and Angels/Demons thing if you want to. You wouldn't even really have to change any of the mechanics, at all, since most of the stuff players get can just be refluffed to eschew any and all of the technological shit.

Exactly! All Demons secretly long for the purpose they had as an Angel, that focussed state of being where there was only their task. Now they're...not that, and something has to fill the void. They hide amongst humans but they're definitely not one of them.
And yes, the best part of nWoD is that there's no defined setting, you can still be Lucifer's bitch if that appeals to you and hide from the scornful gaze of God.
Having no exposure to oWoD at all I really like the idea of the new Demon game, and is the only other WoD game other than Hunter: the Vigil that I'd have any interest in playing. The whole God-Machine thing is something Id like to explore more, but unfortunately everyone in the state of Rhode Island hates nWoD with a passion that is equatable to rabid animals, so that ain't happening.

Well that's what I'd very well do if I ran it, only problem is it would take a lot of retooling. Hell not being an actual thing in this means I'd, well, basically have to create hell.
Actually, I very well might do that. I'll come back to you guys...
How would it be possible to do DnD on just skype? All I've got is an iphone, so I can't download anything

You could have somebody else roll for you, I suppose.

rolz.org works on a smartphone (just checked) so you could just use this for rolls, and skype chat for the rest - me and my group have been doing the same, just with the Steam group chat instead, and it worked out just fine. you could use Dropbox for sheets - editing might be tedious, but it'd probably work
alternatively, you could spring for the premium membership to roll20
R20 on smart phones will trash your battery life, though
Roll20 probably trashes your cpu
Roll20 probably trashes your phone

I think this actually illustrates exactly why it's terrible.
It has nothing to do with the concept itself, but it simply does not fit into World of Darkness in the slightest bit.

I can see why some people who know a lot about WoD lore wouldn't like it. For me that would be like if someone took my favorite setting, ie Eclipse Phase, and started throwing in actual space magic and space dragons.
I'm still fond of the idea of the Descent tho, way more than the Fallen.
I'm working on making a little bit of an revision to DTD, basically, the Demons (the fallen), are former demons of the circles of hell, who have been operating on earth since the dawn on man to bring about the apocalypse. You were from Lust (Carnal's), Greed (Avarice's), Wrath (Fury's), Envy (Covet's) and Pride (Ego's).
These Fallen are pledged to the demon kings of hell, their Patronages. So you have The Lucific Church; The Mammonic Order, a fraternity; S.I.N. (Satan's Infernal Network), a supranational organization, think HYDRA or SPECTRE; The Learned Society of Leviathan, a University of sorts; and the Seed of Asmodeus, pretty much just a straight up cult.
That sound like a good start? It's a lot more high powered and global than other games, but you're a demon, that's kind of the point.
I cast Power Word Lock.
