If youre doing this from a roleplay perspective, try to stick to air damage. Not magic missile. Its super lame, super cliche, and theres no oomph to it when you use it. The party will just collectively sigh. Whereas if you have a sweet air gust spell or something, it will look cool as fuck.
I'm trying to imagine an air elemental/gnome hybrid. Imagine how much shit you'd be able to theoretically dodge. And yeah, stick to air spells.

That spell has saved me so many times I can't even think about counting.
I just realized I said cliche, and earlier I said cliche doest always have to be a bad thing. In this case I lied. "Oh shit oh god oh man oh fuck" - Every wizard that didn't take magic missile and then encountered ghosts
Alright- I've got two players who can make the time; The game, my friends, is Exalted. Exalted second edition revised, updated to third edition upon its eminent release. Two players... I'd like five. Who else would be interested in learning to play a high paced, gritty, highly over-the-top and action oriented high fantasy RPG? Running from 2 PM - 8 PM ( GMT ) [ 9 AM - 3 PM EST ] on Sunday afternoons. Yeah, I could live with myself pretty comfortably.

Of course by the time you get five missiles you've probably got spells that do way more damage by then but it's a good cheap and easy spell to fall back on. It's also useful considering the relatively narrow range of damage dealing spells in the first circle. There certainly isn't a whole lot that can be used from moderate to long range, where the spellcaster would ideally be.

Prestidigitation is also wicked important. After you got those down, then you can get creative. that's like telling a psion not to get mindblast
"Oh shit oh god oh man oh fuck" - Every wizard that didn't take magic missile and then encountered ghosts
This is why I always play as a Kleptomaniac when it comes to silver dining utensils.
Prestidigitation is also wicked important.
I was going to dispute that but then I remembered it's the best spell in the game.
I'm glad you came to your senses
Also considering one of our group was getting mad at our GM for all the magical loot he'd been lavishing on us at Level 2, I wonder what he'll make of FLAMECLEAVER, my Flaming +1 Longsword of Cleaving :v: [editline]17th May 2013[/editline]
I'm glad you came to your senses
I also came to a BROKEN AUTOMERGE

if we were to sell all of the magic things we've found over 3 sessions, we'd be rolling in the fucking deep [editline]16th May 2013[/editline]
He... Can't get Cure Light Wounds.
yeah i figured not just throwing it in there for those classes that can talking about spellcasters in general
He... Can't get Cure Light Wounds.
Bards can get every single one of those spells except Magic Missile. Obviously Bards are the superior spellcasting class at Level 1.
Bards can get every single one of those spells except Magic Missile. Obviously Bards are the superior spellcasting class at Level 1.
They aren't. They don't have shocking grasp, nor burning hands. They have diversity, but lack solid foundations that other classes have.
I was joking about Bards being superior, I just always thought it was funny they got a healing spell considering they're arcane spellcasters.
I was joking about Bards being superior, I just always thought it was funny they got a healing spell considering they're arcane spellcasters.
Yeah, but they need it to act as the jack of all trades. They're already consistently mediocre in every respect, they might as well be able to help the cleric heal.
Yeah, but they need it to act as the jack of all trades. But yeah I totally agree when you say versatility's the name of the game with Bards.

Though I still really want to try EP or Pathfinder.
I get it, its useful... and I guess Id have it as a backup, but its SO LAME. It immediately kills any coolness you might have. Its just dull.
You literally shoot bolts of pure power If you don't think that's the best shit I dunno what to say
Well in his defence, Wizards are the nerds of the setting anyway. They don't look cool because nerds.
Well in his defence, Wizards are the nerds of the setting anyway. They don't look cool because nerds.
And that's why cool kids roll sorcs.
Sorcs use magic missile ironically and it suddenly becomes cool again.
I was just talking about the fact that if you're an air elemental you shouldn't use a magic missile. If your gm could rework it so that it was the same thing in every way but you shot compressed air or something then it would be cool as shit. But being air in every other way and then suddenly having a power magic just seems like you're breaking RP.

Compressed air as in it can blow a hole clean through a person. Or whatever as long it's air based
