Oh, also, the not lying and not using poison thing. I used to play a rogue who was skilled primarily in both of those thigns in a group with a dickhead paladin, who wouldnt let me do that under circumstances.
We ended up murdering him as a collective once he stabbed me for poisoning a troll.
Again, lying is permissible in your companions but as a Paladin you're not to do so. Arguably so's the use of poison, so I'm afraid they were either playing a particular hard-ass fundamentalist of a Paladin or the player severely misinterpreted the Code of Conduct.

Or you were playing an Evil character or otherwise acting overly evil.

To highlight my point about Paladins being seperate from the laws of men, I'll let Captain America explain it better than I ever could.
Except replace America with the dogma of their God.
I'd like to point out that in that comic Iron Nazi ends up killing the Cap. Its a metaphor for paladins everywhere.
That youre eventually going to get murdered by your friends for being a shit disturber.

I told you, Paladins = best class. And thanks for that image, by the way.

In comic books, death is like a holiday. Except it's a pain to get there, so it's like a holiday with a bad travel service. Besides, the spirit of paladins doesn't die.
I've always been for magic based classes with fantasy settings, but I think if I do end up in a game I see myself going with Ranger. Wouldn't mind sniping and having a bird fuck with everyone.
In terms of disruptive holy types I think Blackguards/Antipaladins are probably a lot worse for the party dynamic.
Evil alignments in general don't really work well in groups.
Evil alignments in general don't really work well in groups.
Chaotic Evil is even explicitly said to not work well with others. :v:
I could only see it working if it was a campaign meant for the players to be evil. Then you'd have the players screwing each other over to further their own goals.
Yeah, and if you wanted a campaign full of hilarious backstabbing you could just play Paranoia.
Neutral evil characters could possibly work in a good/neutral party.
Neutral evil is just basically looking out for yourself, and in the dnd world that usually means looking after the party.
Depends heavily on the player I think.
Depends heavily on the player I think.
Naturally. It's better to be cooperative and keep a healthy dynamic among the party instead of being a hindrance. Some people can have an evil character and still do that without attempting to ruin the rest of the party's fun.
Lawful Evil works best for parties if they swear not to hurt the good people.
Lawful Evil works best for parties if they swear not to hurt the good people.
"I didn't say anything about the neutral ones!"
The only way I could see evil characters working were if they were all Lawful evil, all followed the same religion, and were being commanded by an outside source.
Effectively, medieval Black Crusade.
Blight Druids are fun and bipolar.
"Okay, we're going to flood the water with poiso--"
"NO! THAT WILL KILL THE ANIMALS THAT'S BAD!"
"Hmm... Okay we'll introduce a biochemical weapon"
Everyone looks at the Blight Druid expectantly.
"No yeah that's fine with me. I praise the natural destruction of nature."
The thought of playing a Fey Pact Warlock has always appealed to me, not because you're making a pact with little sparkly people with wands but because you're trafficking with the sort of thing you'd see out of Pan's Labrynth or something.
[editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
Reading up on Witches in Pathfinder, they sound a LOT more interesting than D&D's Warlocks, at least in terms of what kinds of pacts they make.
[editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
God damn why is everything in Pathfinder automatically cooler than its D&D equivalent
Star Pact warlocks are the coolest to me, they're effectively superpowered cthulu cultists.

A game of beautiful madness and desparate escape. I can't stop singing its praises.
Well the gist of it sounds pretty neat. I'm digging the concept of it and it seems pretty popular. It's a pity I'm currently involved in three campaigns at once or else I'd be asking around to see if anyone's playing it. :v:

Now if PF could just somehow implement warforged, artificers and shifters...
do you guys have a name for your partys
in our dnd game our group is band of the hand, llc because none of the chars use actual weapns and i figure limited liability would be for the best
In Pathfinder we're the Band of Blades, semi-famous Monster Slayers in the Wartle area.
Only semi-famous because you performed a public execution within 12 hours of arriving in town, and then a few days later killed one of the mayor's servants.
To list all of my titles that I gave myself, I am Ludvik Conoas, The Blade of Macini, Leader of the Band of Blades, Bearer of the mighty Flamecleaver. I also go as The Ashen Knight.
I made just about all of that up to impress peasants but gosh dernit it's my full title as of right now. I'll probably add to it later.

wow Rats way to break my automerge worst GM ever

We also got a big crowd of people drunk
I still love how you gave a name to a completely non-unique longsword that just happened to be magic.

It's magic, I think that's enough to warrant giving it a heroic name.
