I bought a brush for my horse in pathfinder but that's it. :(
Anyone else manage to get a copy of Ultimate Campaign? Despite my dwindling interest in Pathfinder I decided to get a copy and take a look. Well worth the money if you like optional add on rules for stuff like having mechanical benefits to completing personal quests/fleshing out your backstory/managing a business/etc. etc. I especially like the revised kingdom building/strategic warfare rules, and the story feats are a big bonus.

Kingmaker sounds really cool. Is it essentially an RTS in a P&P format and with more detail?
I'm sure players have built kingdoms and went to war against each other unless they were forced to make one single entity and all had control over it.

Kind of. The module gives the GM the option to either play it as an RTS/P&P format, or more of a traditional campaign with kingdom building going on in the background. That's one of the reasons why Kingmaker's so popular, it's flexible for groups that either love specific details or are hand wavey on numbers and managing stuff and just want to explore

It's more like a traditional P&P adventure where you eventually become the rulers of a kingdom.
You are forced to make a single kingdom and there are roles that the party can fill within the kingdom as they wish to give it bonuses.
IE in the game of Kingmaker I was in that only lasted 1 session before our DM flaked the fuck out, I had a dwarf fighter that I was gonna make captain of the guard, while our wizard was going to become the court magus or something like that. I don't remember the exact names of the roles.

I really want to play a Kingmaker game some day.

Metamagic feats are a sign of untrustworthiness
Metamagic feats are a sign of untrustworthiness
If you have metamagic feats, it means that you either have absolutely no idea what the hell you're doing, or you know exactly what you're doing.
Either way you can't be trusted.

And I was going to die of old age before we even got to that point
Considering Kingmaker has a starting level of 1 and a projected end level of 15, it's safe to say you're in that for the long haul.
Don't pretty much all of the Adventure Paths go from 1 to 15-17?
(He was playing a tengu and their max age is like 40-50 iirc.)

Most of them are really, really long.
That's part of why I don't like most of them, they generally just get really fucking dull because they're so stretched out, especially in the beginning.
Someday, I hope I find a game of Demon: The Fallen.
Speaking of long adventures I told my group that a Rappan Athuk run is possible in their near future. I'm unsure if the sounds they made were of impending joy or misery.

You know what's amusing?
Fighting off Tengu assassins and discovering they have blowguns on their person.
Blowguns. Tengu. Bird people. Blowguns.

Sorcerers are the only ones you should remotely trust, and even then you need to make sure they don't start screaming Unlimited Power and start frying everyone.

I think those are the best, at least you know what they're after. It's the ones that smile and say "No I have quite enough power for one man" that scare me.
Yea Kingmaker seems like tons of fun but it's never worked out. It be loads of fun if someone did it and lasted longer than a few sessions.
Problem with Kingmaker, just like a lot of the APs, is that after the initial encounter you're sorta thrown into a nebulous "do the thing for the stuff" scenario where nothing is concrete and the players need to pull their own weight. Serpent's Skull for example has the problem that, after the initial fight with the sea scorpions, the DM basically just looks at you and goes, "c'mon, do something" because you're literally ship-wrecked in the middle of nowhere.
The only AP I've played so far that's able to stay compelling throughout is Jade Regent, since the moment you're done with one part of the quest the other is immediately, and quite blatantly, shoved in your face. By the time things get nebulous and player-driven you've already got adjusted to the game.
Thats when the GM adds stuff. Seriously, with kingmaker, the most interesting part is the actual kingdom. If you get the new "Ultimate Campaign" book, theres an entire section of just kingdom. It would be awesome to have a cool intrigue and political campaign, where you have to win allies and the support of other kingdoms to defend or fight against rival kingdoms.
By that time you're invested in the campaign though. Kingmaker usually dies after you help the Olegs defend their trade post, only for the players to discover they're standing around picking their noses since holy shit, there's like nothing to go on besides very broad quests like "Explore" and "Kill the Stag Lord."
Broad quests are good when you're comfortable with the game, not when you're still trying it out.
I don't think you're listening to me. I'm saying throw out the whole quest and shit, and make your kingdom from the ground up. Hell, make an entire realm from the ground up. That'd be cool as shit.
You could have your kingdom go to war with a whole different kingdom, with everything that would entail, defending the realm from mass invasions, shit like that.
If I ever play Kingmaker I will probably go evil and find a way to discredit my party members and have them killed/executed, than become ruler.

I was planning to just be that one spymaster that no one trusts but doesn't want the throne, and possibly send some assassins to people who displease me.
I probably wouldn't go for total control but I'd make sure my kingdom was something to not fuck with. Completely stomp the shit out of the smaller groups that oppose me if need be.
So our planescape ended with us killing Malcolm McDowell and Tim Curry and then getting a wish from a void creature who's puppy we took care of.
I wished to be able to sap other beings of their beneficial qualities by touch.Long story short; I was touching the void creature when I made the wish.
Luckily, our mascot Tanuki wished for everyone to be happy and successful regardless of what we wished for.
Everybody was happy except for my character because everything he touched dies and he makes things explode with his thoughts.
