Yeah, you can be too idiotic and too dickish, but not too awkward. Also, why is mouthbreathers an insult? People have sinus issues and shit, they can't help it.
oh yeah i can be a dick but i am a social butterfly when required and im not really sure where it spawned from, i wanna say that it's something to do with not being able to control your mouth and keep it closed while in an idle state due to like some form of retardation, it's been a while since i've actually heard the term used and i wouldn't call myself idiotic, I'd just say I've got a lot of points in INT and not enough in WIS, if you quite catch my drift :v:
Anyone want to play Stars Without Number? It's an easy and customizable system where we get to explore space and get into our own adventures (including conquering and/or trading). I have the books and I can send them through Skype.
If you're willing to tolerate a guy with very little experience in tabletop games but a willingness to learn, I'd be down.
That's rough. I DM'd for someone whose character was centered solely around being a bitch, and had no motivation to investigate plot hooks or even join in with the other two players on the cool shit they decided to do when not directly involved with stuff I'd planned. She also left another player's character unconscious in an uncharted, notoriously dangerous forest where they'd just fought a troll.
Basically this for 2 players. I'm hoping that their new characters will be better as Lawful Good fighters, but I really don't know. The two always end up scheming with each other to do whatever, so much so that they are basically just one character making the same rolls. I'm not even sure that they will even be able to do Lawful Good without fucking the group over. The group is already large as is (6 people), so I am debating just letting the remaining 4 do their thing without them, and if they don't put any effort towards actually being part of the game just have them be left behind as the story progresses. One of them has actually made a really fun character before and worked great with the rest of the group, but that was when the other one was DM'ing (he's actually a great DM, but I hate him as a PC) I know for certain that if they ever make characters again, I am going to tell them they have to be unrelated, Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic Good characters with different personalities from each other. [editline].[/editline] 6 characters, the highest stealth score is +2, and 4 of them have negative stealth TIME FOR A HIGH RISK NIGHT TIME STEALTH BANK HEIST

So random question, anyone here ever played Cthulhutech? I've been reading the TVtropes page for it a bunch lately and it seems pretty interesting, but I haven't actually seen it played anywhere and although I love the fluff that I've read, I'm kinda unsure about the game itself from what I've skimmed of the rules (I've sworn by d20 systems pretty much my whole life, and the way they use dice sounds kind of weird to me, but that's probably a result of my d20-ness).

I like percentile rolls, but that's just because I absolutely love fallout.

Good luck!
So, my Black Crusade game starts tomorrow. The GM had me make everyone's characters, since neither of the other players have done an RPG before. I made a Chosen (for myself), a Sorceror, and a Heretek, which hopefully is fairly balanced. Considering the players I'm with, I fully expect to have some stories to tell here tomorrow.

Don't play Cthulhutech. I've got a link to a writeup of the game and why it's terrible, but I'm on my phone right now. Gonna post it later.

I'm the only Space Marine in the groups so in combat everything targets me and just kicks the shit out of me on the floor because I'm the only one who can actually tank any damage. Anyways, we were in a fight with a bunch of Psykers and one of them pushed to the max on some ability I forget and rolled perils of the warp. Bloodletter materializes out of nowhere and all the Psykers run away, I grab the guy we came to get, and jump down the elevator shaft. Benny Hill theme ensues. Couple weeks later we were in a temple of Tzeentch and the head guy was trying to kill us. He pushed to the max on a power to kill the only other member of the party with power armor (Wasn't a SPEHS MEHREN) rolled perils of the warp. Bloodletter again. We joked about it being the same Bloodletter that saved us before, and so it was. So the guy barely saves against the instakill power and the Bloodletter decapitates the Psyker and saves his ass. My character is a Chosen, (Khorne Berserker) so he thought it was pretty cool.
And here's the Cthulhutech writeup. I have no idea whether the links work or not, since the thread the whole thing is has been closed a while ago and might've fallen into archives. (you might also need a Something Awful account if the paywall's up again.) Oh yeah, and since I'm linking this, might as well link the V2 of that thread, which is here. Neat place for discovering obscure, cool games and learning which ones you should steer away from.
ok, so me and a few friends are brand new to dnd. we know literally nothing about it, or how to play it. does anyone have any ideas where to start?
ok, so me and a few friends are brand new to dnd. we know literally nothing about it, or how to play it. does anyone have any ideas where to start?
I started with Fallout because its system is ripped straight from the crpg so I was familiar with the mechanics and the setting of the game.

Some systems (like GURPS) are notoriously rules-heavy while others place more combat on fighting than roleplaying and vice-versa so it pays to know what kind of game you and your friends want to get into. A good game for beginners would be Pathfinder in my opinion, or D&D 3.5 as I've not played 4e and I can't exactly vouch for how good it is, although I know people are pretty divided on it.

i think the best way to get into dnd would be to go on Space Station 13, go on the Facepunch Station Server, and wait in the library for a while generally there's a gang who goes into the back room and plays a dnd type game where people make characters and go through a little one off adventure and it's super cool. Decided to sit in the other night because i was playing detective, and the #1 rule of detective on SS13 is to not do your job, and they actually had some cool shit going on with a city under attack by kobolds and shit. The game was based purely on a flat d20 determining every outcome of certain things and it flowed really nicely.
A lot of what I learned about DnD and Tabletops in general came from Order of the Stick and Darth and Droids.
I'm making myself a scifi homebrew system and I have encountered a problem: weapons. I need to come up with a bunch of exotic scifi weapons. So far I got the classics: plasma, laser and solid projectile weapons. Anyone got any ideas?

Fucking bard summons a magical flute to throw at guy we pissed off with armwrestling, rolls a 1, hits friend and knock him out for a turn
Welp, I've decided to livestream our games (If a bit badly). This is the adventure of Me, WarRage, and other shitlords. http://www.twitch.tv/mrcampin/c/2492144 I fixed the issue of me being quiet so that sorted. I've also uploaded it onto my YouTube channel, in 5 bite size chunks (dunno why, but hey).
Have some fun gimmicky non-lethal things like electrolasers, chemical sprayers and laser-dazzlers.
Good thought. Honestly, I'd make "chemistry" an entire skill. Spraying people with various chemicals can basically do anything. In combat, hit them with hydrofluoric acid. Or perchloric acid. Or chlorine trifluoride, which doesn't just combust in water, but actually sets water on fire. Or just plain phosphorus or sodium metal. For non-lethal takedowns, there's ketamine, thiopentol, even nitrous oxide. For traps, there's always nitrogen triiodide - perfectly safe when wet, but when dry is a *very* sensitive explosive, enough that a fly landing on it will detonate it. Or leave behind chlorine gas, or mustard gas, or even just enough N2 to displace all the oxygen. Poisons? There's the classic ones, but you've also got some that take effect over months (methyl mercury, anyone?). Hit the BBEG with that in the first session, and he won't know what hit him until months later when his kidneys and liver die. Persuasion? You've got various narcotics, stimulants, depressants and hallucinogens. Sodium pentathol, lysergide, even tetrahydrocannabinol can be useful depending on how you're using them. Or go with various pheromones, for more subtle manipulation. Then there's the entire field of pharmacology, handling the "healing" section quite nicely. And that's not even getting into the fun of nuclear chemistry. Oh, the fun of nuclear chemistry, and its habit of using absolutely massive explosions to trigger yet-larger explosions.
