i prefer making the bare bones of a story so it actually seems like a story for almost all points, but then pulling every other little detail out of my ass.
real men dont even plan out the intro or bother to learn the rules for the game or read the players' character sheets
i prefer making the bare bones of a story so it actually seems like a story for almost all points, but then pulling every other little detail out of my ass.
This is pretty much what I've been doing. Like the only things I've planned out all that much were the hala demon cave, the rusty knight, and the haunted manor you're in right now. And even then, all of that started with an idea I got at the end of the previous session. It still feels like a decently put together story to me, though, considering something you guys did that you will finally probably see the effects of next session.(WOULD HAVE BEEN THIS TIME IF NOT FOR THE SESSION BEING SO SHORT GAWD) Although HellSoldier won't remember said thing and Phygon will know less about it than the rest of you.
As I've mentioned in the past, determining not much more than the major npc players and their goals/means and playing that off in your head against what the PCs cause is another viable way of improv. Suited To more limited locales, such as a single city.
Still looking for a really accessible role playing game for me and my friends. Perhaps something where you don't do as much teamwork than most rpgs, we can't always play in a group that is larger than 3.

Plus FATE is free, which is always nice.
So, finally got my group together for our final meet this summer They finished gathering their army of ghosts and goblins, spent 2 hours doing tactics for it, got to the enemy capital, basically bum-rushed through their lines, D-dayed a few gatehouses, and got to a giant black pyramid in the middle of it Then, they fought their way up it, before confronting the king atop it and he basically said 'you done fucked up now' because with half of the maguffin pieces in close proximity (the king had the 3rd of 6) they drew the attention of the cosmic superweapon they accidentally released and are trying to destroy, which sent a fraction of itself after them They assembled the three maguffins in an order they spent about 20 minutes fighting and rolling dice over, which turned out to be the assembly I had listed for 'giant fucking nuke' So, the paladin uses the maguffins on the fragment, giant death beam happens, everything goes white, they wake up to the pyramid being the only thing in a 50 mile radius still standing, and with a tsunami flooding the place that the city used to be because they vaporized about half the nearby sea And that's where we left off Probably not gonna get to finish it till next summer
Sounds like a Dark Sun kinda deal, which is awesome. I'm planning my undead army that I'm going to use to invade a nation that doesn't even believe the undead exist, so that should be fun. Was going to use Battle System rules but I can't find that shit anywhere.
It's so hard to keep a schedule with European players/GMs. I didn't even think about college or work before joining a campaign with sessions at 2 in the afternoon.
I think I said this before but timezones are worse than hitler
I think I said this before but timezones are worse than hitler
Hardly matters for me, I work at night and on set days so I'm good 24 hours a day on the days I'm free. Yaaaaay sleep deprivation!
Has anyone here played Iron Kingdoms? I got the core rulebook and been skimming it, looks really fun. Now if I could only convince my group to play it...
Got a chance to run a game for my friends using Iron Kingdoms. Turns out that it is mechanically possible and even slightly viable to punch a steamjack (big stompy robot) to death. Great system, 10/10. Would play again.
So I was cleaning up my desktop, saw PCgen and started it up. I made a min-maxed Dwarf Rogue with 18 strength name Farven. What have I done?
Got a new player in my AD&D game. Axe, the Dwarf. But he's not a dwarf, he's a human barbarian raised by dwarves. He grew up thinking he was just a big dwarf, and proudly boasts that he's the biggest dwarf to have ever lived. Trying to tell him otherwise doesn't go down well.

A cautionary tale for the interested: always make sure to check for traps before taking treasure. I mean it. Our group, in our younger days, used to be a lot less careful (by this, I mean final destination style adventuring). One session, we opened up a treasure 'vault' that was empty except for some obviously 'magic' items on a raised pedestal. They detected as magic when applied for as well. The thief then picked up some stuff from it, which triggered a pressure plate that swamped the entire room in green slime from the ceiling. Needless to say, that didn't end too well. The DM, between gales of laughter, when applied to, said that the 'magic' items just had a Nystul's aura cast on them, and told us to watch our steps from then onwards.
So I picked up the Mythic Adventures for Pathfinder and sweet jesus they make characters incredibly powerful. I know that's kind of the point but I just casually glanced at the Path Abilities/Mythic Feats and was ticking off the number of ways I could abuse them. On the other side though, it made some enemies a fair bit more dangerous which I'm always for.
so my first game of mutants&masterminds is going well I failed to use my powers properly, making a metal ball instead of a barrier to stop some guards getting to us. I then critically failed to throw the ball at one of the guards and fell over. After I critically failed to investigate an apartment and ended up watching tv instead of searching. Finally, afterwards, when someone joked I should have to roll to wash the blood off of me I managed to get earlier, I critically failed that too and got soap in my eyes gg

list of crimes committed by teenage mutants - 3 counts of assault on guards - breaking and entering - murder - mugging
Sounds like you need your game GM'd by Elowin.
everyone needs their game GM'd by me
everyone needs their game GM'd by me
Especially Mutants & Masterminds
- breaking and entering - murder
I read this as breaking and murdering at first. That sounds far more painful.
I read this as breaking and murdering at first. After a two-week break it feels damn good to play D&D again. Highlights: Translating a 'do you like me' note between the warlock and the wizardpsionwhatevertwins from infernal to draconic to common and the resulting teenaged angst. Opening (another) portal to Mechanus and watching three Inevitables strangle the shit out of some weird-ass dudes in stasis pods who were over a few thousand years old. One of them was missing, and so one stuck around to look for it. (That's four Inevitables active on the prime material that we're aware of- two Maruts, a Kolyarut and a Quarut.) The aforementioned warlock? I think he might've broken one of the seven Staffs of Creation right before he got his head bashed and lost his memory. We also passed by a book that can apparently help cause the apocalypse and also we're gonna go retrieve another one the aforementioned Staffs. Also we got some gorilladudes and sharkdudes to help crew our ship, among other more conventional races. Most importantly, we dined on fucking meat bread
So I picked up the Mythic Adventures for Pathfinder and sweet jesus they make characters incredibly powerful.
great idea to make one of the most powerful artifacts in the world a flimsy staff
Hey man, there were like, a shitload of candles, the symbol of Asmodeus scrawled on the ground in blood, all beneath a mirror focus of planar travel. Potent magicks and shit. Blew the doors clear open.
So, to some of you who don't speak English natively what language do you run your games in? In my group we try to run it in danish since not everyone is fluent in English, but it is kinda hard when every spell, class and item don't translate well. The worst , speaking as a new gm, is trying to come up with decent translations on the go. It ruins the flow of the game and can cause people to lose interest in the game when you sit mumbling to yourself about what to translate the polymorph spell as without making it sound Stupid.

Yeah. Some RPGs didn't start in english so if you find a system in your native language that might be the way to go, although the only examples I can think of off the top of my head is the Stalker RPG which is Finnish and JRPGS.
