I hope hard mode is more than just changing numbers of HP and Damage aka more Zombies, more Volatiles, no radar etc not just "lol 1 hit u dead"
One major problem the game has right now is most special zombies lacking sound and visual feedback- when is the last time you got instakilled by a boomer because you didn't hear it coming or because he was blending into a crowd perfectly?
Quick question, do enemy hp/weapon dmg still scale with player level like Dead Island? That system really pissed me off no end and reminded me of the Borderland series, numbers for numbers' sake. I can understand finding better weapons, but a lvl 20 knife somehow doing more damage than a level 5 cleaver is just absurd.
The zombies do get tougher and scale as you progress. The game is in real time so days into it they are mutating and getting stronger from what I have gathered. But as Trainbike said the weapons do kinda scale logically, plus you find blueprints to modify weapons into efficient killing machines later.
I normally am a big opponent of scaling or misdone scaling but its not bad here.

literally never
imo they wheeze pretty obviously and they're really prone to exploding before they get anywhere near you
goons are the most annoying special to me with their weird inconsistently huge aoe, and demolishers with the whole instantly turn around and rush deal

I died to them like, twice, then realized they had fairly obvious profile compared to regular walkers (unless they're in a hoard, which I think is fine, if you run into the middle of a hoard you deserve to die anyway) and the wheezing sound they make and their scream usually gives me enough time to run away and take no damage, or at the least, very minimal damage.
I've only died to bombers because you open a door and SURPRISE, MOTHERFUCKER! they explode in your face.
Spitters (for lack of better name) aren't really ever in crowds and have a very obvious visual form; Demolishers and Goons are many times larger and you can't miss them.
gotta remember even if the hit detection is a little goofy with it sometimes quickly dodging backwards gets you away from bombers atleast really nicely
I want a mod which adds onto the SAZ mod by replacing all/or most zombies with the sprinting gas tank zombies.
That'd be an intense mode.

As completely frustrating as that is, boomers work great. They blend in, even though they look different, and they actually are a real threat unlike most enemies. Hell even Volatiles are no issue.

I remember that happening to me once. The moment I fucked up was when I decided to unconsciously press the left mouse button.
Enemies stay the same, but new enemies are introduced as the story progresses, so the game can be more challenging without buffing the regular zombies. With a high level sword or machete, zombies get cut down like you're mowing the lawn.
Actually, regular zombies are buffed when you get to [sp]Sector 0[/sp]. They become extremely aggressive and shamble quickly/start their lunge from farther distances instead of slowly walking (compared to early game). They also develop puss filled boils that explode when set on fire and distort your vision while alerting virals.
Early game zombies are jokes that stand around and are mostly harmless unless you are careless and get too close. Shit gets real 50% into the story and you can easily get overwhelmed if you're not using a high damage crowd clearing weapon and don't have the grapple break perk.

Also [sp]in Old Town the zombies there mutate into virals at night when you are spotted[/sp] so things tend to get extra intense.
all those sayings about jesus being a zombie were true btw

For the first point, I guess I didn't notice. They are more annoying, but don't feel tougher. But for the exploding ones, I just figured those were new zombies.
And for the last thing, they change in either city afaik.

I never really notice it in the slums as much because the zombie density is so spread out, I tend not to notice it as much like in the zombie filled streets of the city.
As for the zombies not feeling tougher, they only become more intimidating and aggressive instead of scaling their HP to make them stronger. It just makes dealing with more than 4 zombies at a time more dangerous if you don't run away and have op weapons.
It's kinda sad because cutting weapons and running away+grappling hook trivializes fighting hordes, hopefully the hardmode dlc remedies that somehow because I'm dying to experience the sense of dread you get when running into a horde early game with a shit weapon again.
the spitters are called Toads
In the latter half of the game you also start running in to zombies that are in heavy clothes, who usually will completely absorb even a high damage blow as well as knocking you back. Even when they're just standing there they tend to block your attacks pretty well and if they're charging, the slight stun from them knocking you back usually give them an opportunity to grab you.

I tried to land on him.
I'm getting really frustrated with being grabbed all the time. Definitely putting points into those skills next.

i always thought it was that they got an aoe attack. Learn to jump when they slam their hammer down and you wont get hit, granted that there not actually hitting you with it. if your on the ground the aoe attack hits you and knocks you back

it's misleading big though and sometimes hits me even if I dodge backwards to distances it wouldn't normally hit me at
plus the aoe can hit you even if you're stood on things unless they're like head height
Is there a fix for some specific textures being low quality even if Texture Quality is set to High/Medium? Usually text graffiti like "<-- Exit", certain furniture and signs above buildings are completely pixelated and blurred. Everything else is the proper texture quality though. I've got a great PC and the game runs fine but these textures were really distracting in my playthrough, and with this hard mode coming out I'd like to have it fixed by my next playthrough.
Also, fuck Boomers. They were almost all of my deaths (other than the occasional fall). I'd be fighting a Goon, dodging his heavy rebar and landing an attack, all of a sudden explosion and I'm dead. Boomer came from behind and exploded and I didn't even hear him, and he wasn't on the minimap. Or, open a door, Boomer's there, instinctively swing my weapon, realize I'm fucked and die. Or, shoot a Boomer with a gun at a mid distance, still get knocked down anyways, and another Boomer comes while I'm trying to get up and I die. I wish the gurgling they made was loud enough so you could hear them above all the other sounds going on. I only died about five or so times to them but each time was frustrating as hell.
Also it seems like 5.1 surround sound is a bit spotty in the game too, that could be why I never heard Boomers.

Worse thing about Boomers is the fucking condescending loading screen after you die.
"You should kill Boomers from range". Fuck off with that game; you hid it right behind a door in a narrow corridor. Don't give me that shit.
I never really had any problems with boomers, all you have to do is run up and trigger their suicide state and dash backwards once or twice and you are safe since the AOE is so small.
The only times I've been killed by them is when I'm not paying attention and standing still.

Fucking this
In the side mission where you go to the Bunker in Old Town, the first time I went under the town hall building the game was all "Nope, you need a keycard from a demolisher, go get it!". So I turn around from trying to open the door and BAM, 3 bombers in my face on the only way route out (the staircase).
I lost 3600 (not that it matters at level 20)
Snip found it thank you
So what's with normal zombie's heads exploding sometimes after you kill them?
If you're looking for some interesting difficulty mods there are some cool ones on the Dying Light nexus. I like the Survivor Mod (http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/49/?) in particular:
- Increased difficulty: now you'll need to earn more experience to gain the higher level skills. Some skills will require more than 1 point to obtain.
- Increased level cap and experience required to get there. Currently up to level 40 in all three skill trees. This means you may not be able to get EVERY skill as this would need 42+ skill points, so spend wisely. This works very well in co-op where you can share the burden of crafting items.
- Removed frequency of a lot of loot drops. In many situations, you're just as likely to get an empty cupboard as you were to find something. This also removed certain items from locations that seem out of place. (no more disc blades in kitchen cupboards, for example)
- Now the only place to get metal scrap is from weapons you find. Decide if you want to repair your own with the metal scrap, or sell a found item for cash. Loot is dramatically reduced.
- Added cooldown to flashlight (45 seconds use, 6 second recharge
- Added stamina usage to kick (this seems to only function when stamina is already draining from melee)
- Reduced ammo carry capacity for pistol, shotgun and rifle (30, 30, 60 respectfully)
- Reduced stack sizes for loot, valuables and throwables (30, 5, 10 respectfully)
It also recently added stuff like zombies being able to detect footsteps and your flashlight as well.
The Unamed Overhaul Mod (http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/61/?) is also cool, since it changes up a lot of loot stuff, like adding more interesting things to airdrops like occasional firearms, explosives, etc.

You either have to make flashlights have the battery of a watch for gameplay or make it last like 10 hours of gameplay like an actual flashlight.
