If Dying Light came out last year it would have been a contender for my personal game of the year.
Anyone else really like the music in this? It's 80s as fuck and reminds me a hell of a lot of Hotline Miami FC3 Blood Dragon.
The combat music gives a "Dawn of the dead" (80's) Globin-like feel.
FUCKINGWEOSEM
So I absolutely hated Dead Island, but it was super fun to play with a friend (in an ironic "this is so bad lmao" way)
I hated the voices, hated most quests, hated the sewer, hated the general way things worked (you level up and get health, but since enemies scale with you it literally doesn't do anything! Like oh my god I can't believe they did that.) Hated how expensive weapons were and how hard they were to repair.
I loved the blood and graphics (minus the bloom), I loved the gun play (even though it was so nonviable, it felt rightish), and I loved the atmosphere in some areas.
Will I like Dying Light?
Dying Light is what Dead Island should have been and more.
Fuck now all missions, story and side alike require me to do something at night.
I am piss scared of night in this game, one night was enough with those volatiles, now I have to do something with retrieving a sample of those weird green blistered motherfuckers that always pop up at the weirdest moments in this game and weird the shit out of me.
Oh well, gotta take it like a man.
I kinda miss how silly Dead Island was on accident

Dying Light is strictly an upgrade in every area you mentioned about Dead Island. Calling Dying Light a "better Dead Island" doesn't give it enough credit imo.
If you like melee combat, you'll enjoy it. The combat is easily the strongest point of the game. The rpg elements are solid too and it's one of the only games I've played where most of the skills seem worth getting (no % based damage up perks or whatever bullshit dead island was full of). The side quests are about as weak as you'd expect since they mostly boil down to fetch quests with some slightly interesting story with it. The main quests are better. Again, nothing amazing and the story isn't the greatest even though the premise is pretty cool.
It comes down to whether or not you like combat like this, since the story and writing aren't enough to carry it. For me personally, the combat is great. It's responsive, weighty, and really satisfying. Overall, I like Dying Light a whole lot and I really wasn't too big on Dead Island. You'll enjoy it.

Firecrackers, and wait for night in a safehouse that's close to one of the feeding places. Run up, smack the bitch, throw firecracker, take the sample and then high tail it out of there.

A lot of bolter feeding grounds are like 10 feet away from a safehouse. Choose a good spot and it'll be a cakewalk.
If you have camouflage you can always just waltz into a feeding ground, snap the bolter's neck and casually walk out of there.
If you have flares, that makes surviving pretty easy too.
I just climbed up in a really high dark place and shot it in the head once with a police rifle then climbed down and got it, volatiles didnt even notice.
Holy hell I just thought about something else with the plot. [sp]Why the hell does Jade get pissed off that Crane works for the GRE? Ok, sure they stopped dropping supplies, but they also were the ones who dropped them supplies to begin with. She doesn't know that they've been screwing everyone around and are responsible for the virus to begin with. Why the shit to she get pissed then? In fact, why didn't Crane tell everyone he was a GRE agent the moment he realized the people in the Tower were good? I mean, why the hell didn't they question why he was parachuted in to the city to begin with anyway? He could have been like "Hey, I'm working for GRE trying to help them find these files that could be really dangerous or really helpful! I'm also gonna help you guys!"[/sp]
Better fix that spoiler tag, buttercup.
Thanks.

Yeah, the combat in Dying Light is great. The only way Dead Island's can top it is with the Director's Cut mod, since that really makes the combat fluid.

Surprised people are actually doing speedruns of this game.
you have to be survival level 12 to get the grappling hook... how the fuck does he have it while only having level 4 and 3 agility/power
I'm actually able to turn around now without it freezing up on me.
GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!
Can't wait to play again... going to wrap up this assignment quickly.
Beat the game. It was... a little anti-climactic honestly, and annoying as fuck.
[sp]Running to the sewers was annoying. Sewer chase was pretty good. Building climb was ok, QTE was annoying as fuck.[/sp]
The sewers should have been set up more like a dungeon to explore than just an annoying addition to travel time.
-snip misinformed-
Surprised people are actually doing speedruns of this game.
Open world games are great for speedruns, especially when they're made out of models that can easily be glitched through. I imagine by the end of this year a run will be sub-1:30:00, the "final" run that nobody can beat will probably be sub-1:00:00.
These Booster potions (XL) are freaking great.
I don't think running at the speed of sound during a night time pursuit will ever get old.
Not to forget being able to go ham on the bandits with infinite stamina.
I love this game so much, it's so refreshing after the letdown that was Dead Island. But man, I really wish sometimes that the game could be as frightening to me as it is to other people. My brother for example is legit scared of going out at night and he absolutely fears the volatiles, whereas as I find them to be nothing more of an obstacle. In fact, today I even randomly decided to take one on to give some new weapons a test. This led to me killing about 6 more of them before I decided to continue on with what I was doing. I'm sure I'm not alone in this regard.
The only thing in this game that's managed to scare me every time without fail is those moments when I open a door and those fatass boomer zombies pop up right there in my face.
Just so you guys know, there's a poster on the wall in the loft that lets you fast travel to the tower and back.
Been hearing too many people complaining about having to go through the sewers to move between areas.

I'm using a mod where even the slightest bit of combat noise means there'll be virals on your ass within a minute, not to mention no zombies are shown on the minimap anymore and flashlights alert volatiles. Night gets pretty fucking spooky.

to be fair they really should have made this more obvious
the only reason i found out was because i was in old town and had a slums mission activated and the quest marker was on the poster

[sp]Probably because that guy who died trying to save you didn't die saving some defenseless survivor who didn't have a choice to be in Haran, but some guy who willingly dropped down into the city knowing how shit everything was.
That and people really really don't like when you lie to them[/sp]
"You are exhausted, you cannot use your grappling hook"
alright I don't think the grappling hook even uses stamina but whatever
*proceed to run an entire fucking marathon uphill while being chased by zombies while running through obstacles*
yep im definitely exhausted 10/10 ending

There's a feeding ground in the south-east corner of the map, next to some small fishing huts. There's literally one or two zombies during the day there and getting close to a bolter is piss easy.

Same thing happens in [sp]the museum[/sp].
I'm guessing that the grappling hook was a late addition to the game so they restricted it in certain parts that they didn't want to re-model.
