The Elder Scrolls Megathread XVI: Loremaster Extraordinaire

There's a mod that forces the main quest to last over a month or more of ingame time by adding pretty large stops in between different quest stages. Not sure if anyone has done the same for the side quests but it'd be nice to do it if no one else has.
Well you'd have to rewrite the script and story from scratch for it to work properly and feel immersive. I don't mind you being a honorary member or so, but pretty much being a nobody, do some cool shit and become the arch-mage is kinda stupid.
in fairness you do do some pretty big things for each guild that make you kinda worthy of arch-mage/harbinger/nightman whatever
[editline]11th April 2015[/editline]
plus in the case of the first two the original died and they kinda need a new one and nobody is willing to step up (although im pretty sure everyone in the college would want to be arch mage not sure why that annoying person who keeps whining about a change in leadership didn't take the opportunity)
It goes relatively fine and then shia-surprise you're batman have a super-hero costume
Well, I actually like the Nightingale Armour, but I'm easily wowed by cool things regardless of practicality or fitting. It's that you don't see that pile of gold you're supposidly making the organisation [sp]before it's to be stolen, of course[/sp]. None of the guilds' stories in any Elder Scrolls game has blown me away though. And that the items you're sent to steal only appear when you're given the quest, they stick out like a sore thumb compared to everything else around them, and they're the same gubbins each time. It doesn't feel like you're really pilfering something from someone. I don't feel like a bastard after knicking anything. Except the bedlam jobs, those are proper thievin'. I wish I'd a PC again, so I could finally actually play that Thief + Thief 2 disk I got ages and ages back...
So who actually has ESO accounts right now? I want to add y'all, I'm so lonely.
[sp]actually i haven't played it in over two weeks for a variety of reasons so not really, but i WAS lonely and that's what counts[/sp]

What reasons are those?
What reasons are those?
University and a vague sense of responsibility
I don't mind the ESO Elves.

I wouldn't have known that was an elf without you saying so.
No solid black eyes 0/10
Please tell me half of the NPCs in ESO have black eyes at least
I don't mind the ESO Elves.
I find them more realistic with their appearance being different from individual to individual. In Skyrim all elves looked absolutely terrible, which they didn't in the earlier games.
Although you can still make Skyrim-Elves, which is cool. Customization rules.
ESO Bosmer are CUTE!

Skyrim elves are badass what are you talking about, and I don't even like elves.
I didn't mind the questline but it bothers me how [sp]you end up being the leader of every god damn thing you just joined a week ago ingame time[/sp]
bethesda has a chosen one fetish
companions was chosen one
main questline was chosen one
thieves guild was chosen one
college of winterhold was chosen one
uh the whole games are about the elder scrolls
which yknow
tell about prophesized heroes n shit
I wouldn't have known that was an elf without you saying so.
That's because it's an FF14 NPC.

Timing is Everything parses a lot of quests in a more realistic fashion.

The other games actually treated the chosen one thing interestingly though. Morrowind was all about whether you were the chosen one or just someone with the will and determination to do amazing things, Oblivion had Martin as the lynchpin of the prophesy. Skyrim, you're just the chosen one for everything because logical justifications and clever writing am hard. Then again, Skyrim is the game where the main plot is "dragons want to destroy the world, and you-- kurt dickpunch-- must kill the dragums" so maybe they just didn't give a fuck about the writing
that's why alternate start mods are great.
you aren't dragonborn, you're just really damn good at fucking shit up.

Yeah I guess you're right. I still never found much of a reason to complain about becoming Grandmaster of guilds. Sure it's pretty dumb but the whole selling point of the games is their freedom.
I just think that out of all of the problems that Skyrim has, the ability to become a guild leader is not really one of them. The real problem with the guilds is that there is nearly no progression in them. Morrowind let you be a guild leader but you had to jump through a shitload of quests and advanced through the ranks before you got there. Skyrim has like 5-10 quests and bam youre done, you're either the lowest rank or the highest rank.

In what universe is it cool to do fetch quests over and over again?
The Mass Effect one.
The real problem with guilds is that there's barely any depth, no time to develop real intrigue and very few unique big quests.
Yeah, there's a chosen one cliche thing going on that's tiring. Yes, there's no real progression. But the big issue, the thing you can't overlook, is that there's so little content for each guild. You get a few fancy areas, 3-4 ultimately straight forward quests that a half-blind child with a 2 digit IQ could manage and some equipment.
The first Mages guild quest probably took me about as long to complete as the entire College of Winterhold questline, +/- the time it took to alleviate my fatigue at doing like 9 different tasks in all the different cities.

You don't even need mods.
Just don't go to Bleak Falls Barrow, and keep away from the Dragonsreach Court. Dragons only appear when you go to the Western Watchtower during the main questline.
Then you can run around doing fun things without dragons swooping down.
Only downside is, no shouts to play with at all. Also you can't do the Dragonborn DLC's Main questline, and without that, you can't do things like collect all the Black Books.

I thought dragons only start spawning after you give that one stone to that one guy.
I forget, it's been a while since I played skyrim.
re quests i'm gonna say it again just because
Morrowind was a real fuckin story written and paced by talented people and anyone who isn't dented-in-the-head can see that, even if they can't get into the game because the gameplay is old and plays like a cheesy fart
Skyrim and Oblivion are RPG Lite* experiences that use Morrowind more than they build on it and i literally can't stop hating Bethesda for it
[editline]10th April 2015[/editline]
here's an analogy: to me it was like buying a really nice swiss army knife or something and then buying a new one from the same company and getting a piece of toast in the mail instead
But Morrowind has aged like ass.
I can barely play it because of how much it looks like ass, and how the gameplay feels like dice rolling ass.

I'm hoping Skywind is faithful to Morrowind's great writing.
I'm hoping Skywind is faithful to Morrowind's great writing.
One of Skywind's selling points is that it more or less stays true to the original, isn't it?
I doubt they would dramatically change any of the questlines or plot points unless they ran into some kind of technical restriction or other annoying problem.

Is it going to be able to recreate the freedom of stuff like potion-crafting and spell-making? That was one of the things that made it great, just being able to make the gear you wanted, with a fancy spell that you invented.
In what universe is it cool to do fetch quests over and over again?
Well, for the college you get to
+Find the Eye of Magnus
+Interact with the Psijic Order(Why the fuck do they never use these guys? Huur doomsday prophets but they never fucking actually use them)
+Find the Staff of Magnus
+Kill two powerful thalmor spies
+Delve into dwarven ruins, figure out a machine that allows you to map powerful artifacts all over Tamriel
and probably some other things. The story is shit because it was poorly written, but there were many things that could've been great if they had used it well. It really bothers me how the Psijic Order just kinda tells you "hey we're watching you, you're doing great, k?" and nothing else happens, nobody really cares that much and it never turns into anything story-wise. You should've visited them, find out where they're hiding, join their order and be some cool shit.
[editline]11th April 2015[/editline]
Hell, it could've even be a DLC to go to their place and join them
Well fuck, no matter what I do the shitty ass bloodskal blade won't fire the fucking beam and I'm stuck here forever.
At least joining the Mages guild and getting full membership in Oblivion was done pretty well and actually had some weight to it given the benefits of getting full membership, Skyrim is pretty shit compared to both Morrowind and Oblivions quest lines in that respect.
