Some have released statements saying they won't go that way: Darkfox127 (Morskom Estate, Millwater Retreat, Caranthir Tower) T3nd0 (Skyrim Redone, Perkus Maximus) Elianora (Morskom Estate, a billion other neat home mods)
I am very aware of those who have a heart. I'm pointing towards the modders that care only about money and nothing more, example, that Wet&Cold author.
If it isn't already a thing I can't wait for a mod that's like $40 with bullshit all over the page, and all it does on startup just print a message saying something like "Ravioli Ravioli Give Me The Formu-oli" then CTD.
I would have to be lying if I said this didn't really affect me. I don't have a lot of money and I just get incredibly heartbroken when I see people gaining what could be described "easy money". Like I'm pretty much at a moral dilemma here. I need money. I have means of making money by selling things I make. But ffs they're mods, not standalone content. This has made me think about myself the entire day. I don't hate anyone who submitted their content fairly. I do hate the ones that get away with selling overpriced trash, or tricking consumers into giving them their money. As I type this, I'm uploading a video for one of my scripts i'm about to sell online for garrysmod, it's hypocritical. Honestly my problems with this whole situation is this. 25% profits People uploading garbage and getting away with it.
I don't even feel like playing Skyrim or even Morroblivion right now I'm so mad at Bethesda. They're screwing over everyone.
I wonder if they'll even get rid of the whole idea. It's pretty rare for a company to take something back once they've committed to it.
Here's the issues with paid mods in-general that I have found so far:
1: No regulation on content quality. 2: No proper pricing of work. How much should a sword mod that took a week to make cost? 3: Mods could conflict and break. This sort of factors into content quality and game uniform-ness. Will the mod work with other mods that you bought? 4: Legalities of the work, and how that affects pricing. The pricing for the mod is horrible for the modder side of things, as the companies that allow paid mods will most likely ask for a large chunk, seeings how that the game being modded is their work. 5(the first 4 factor into this one, get rid of those problems and this will be non-existent): Purchase power of players. Players ATM do NOT want to pay for a chance to get a working mod that may be sub-par and not worth the money, or conflict with other mods they purchase.
The plus side to paid modding? Modders get money for their work, but a trivial amount for it, due to reason 4. I think modders should get some money for the work they do, but who's to say how much per what they add or change? I say let the people decide with donations.
I really wish Bethesda didn't have such a monopoly on 3d open-world WRPGS.
I wonder if they'll even get rid of the whole idea. It's pretty rare for a company to take something back once they've committed to it.
If they haven't gotten rid of it now, then they wont get rid of it ever. remember that portal 2 outrage?
like im seriously considering uninstalling wet and cold i always had this thing where no matter how good the content is, if the content provider is a piece of shit then I won't use said content for my entertainment needs.
I'm seriously considering uninstalling skyrim
I really wish Bethesda didn't have such a monopoly on 3d open-world WRPGS.
Closest thing I have is Wizardry 8, but the community isn't very lively and Sir-Tech has been dead for over a decade. Most of the mods for it are on a single page.
They don't necessarily have a monopoly so much as they're the only ones who have a game exactly like that. A good skyrim clone is always welcome.
Check that AAA quality shit [t]http://i.imgur.com/fU31cXk.jpg[/t]

I can't wait for some Russians to steal a big mod and put it up with minor changes.
I'm seriously considering uninstalling skyrim
I'm seriously considering uninstalling Steam.
I'm seriously considering uninstalling Steam.
I'm seriously considering uninstalling Windows. [sp]am I doing it right[/sp]
Check that AAA quality shit [t]http://i.imgur.com/fU31cXk.jpg[/t]
Wow. This is the kind of thing I expect from a free mod. $1.99 for a single, one-piece of armor that covers all of your slots and two fairly dinky weapons - all of which you can't even find in the game and have to use the console to get. g fucking g
Valve is terrible at communicating with it's userbase, they won't defend themselves.
Valve is terrible at communicating with it's userbase, they won't defend themselves.
They(Gabe specifically) said that they needed to work on that. So far Valve has only communicated that they suck and would rather push us around without uttering a single word, and then proceed shove objects in orifices that those objects shouldn't go in because they know they can get away with it because they have a monopoly. [editline]23rd April 2015[/editline] Oh god take a look at this! http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2518268 SPUF user called it three years ago!
Another small update to lighten up the mood. Everyone remember the Targe of the Blooded? I'm using it as a base for some non-unique spiked shields (coming later) and other shield variants. For now, have a basic wooden shield with a metal core. I'll be posting some more later on, expect to see several variations for roleplay/variety. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/k1SYE0A.png[/img_thumb]
My favorite mods for these games are things that fit into the existing style, I like what you're doing so far here and would definitely use these.
Thank you, I appreciate it. I'm not the most skilled content creator but I'm using that to my advantage and making use of mostly base models and textures to fit the game's detail and art-style better. I hope when this pack and several others are finished, that my efforts will ease the sting of this whole ordeal for content users.
Not sure how my profit theory post was dumb. Perhaps the idea of doing that is wrong, which, I won't lie, it is. However, I'm a graduated college student with an unpaid internship and a lot of travel and education fees to make up. I'm in a position where I'll do it.
hooray for you? You'll not only be apart of a dumb system but make an even worse product than the others
Just keep in mind that you have to earn $100 to get anything. Which means you have to sell lots of subscriptions. And most people seem opposed to this entire concept anyway so the amount of people in your target audience who are willing to buy is a very minuscule amount at the moment, no matter what it is you are trying to sell.
Going back to the mods for a moment I was wondering what people thought of some new weapon types I was developing. I feel like Skyrim needs some more defined niches and one of them I thought would be cool is a very dedicated speed weapon, something you could use as a quick dual-wield back up or as a very quick hitting weapon perfect for agile players and those who depend on stacking enhancements/poison. So I was thinking and I came to the idea of War Knives These would basically be daggers on steroids. They would do even less damage and have even less range but would weigh nearly nothing and attack incredibly fast, you could just keep wailing on an enemy in pretty much an endless assault of a thousand paper cuts. (Along with bigger stealth criticals and higher critical chance) On the other end, I really wish I had a staggering tool, some way of really breaking a block and I've been thinking about it for awhile but I was thinking of a sort of one handed mallet. Sort of like the one handed warhammer/axes in the game, but way heavier and slower, they would pack a big punch but their real strength would be in staggering people. Just looking for some input is all, thank you.
