I'm not supporting it because it's already torn apart the community and I'm worried that it could lead to non-workshop getting locked out in TES 6/Fallout 4
so people will pay anything as long as they get their precious video gaming experience
that sure does bode well

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't pay for mods at all even if it was truly AAA quality.
I'm just saying Valve & Bethesda have fucked up the community and it doesn't bode well for modding future Bethesda titles.
Today was such a good day untill I learned that VALVe has essentially begun the modding holocaust.
I do think some mod creators do fully deserve to earn something from their mods, but this is just straight up exploitation. Not to mention the amount of shit greenlight esque mods that is already flooding the workshop now because people want to earn money.
GG valve you killed Skyrim
ive honestly never seen a large scale mod that wasnt complete arse in some way, whether it be out of place looking models or textures, or poor voice acting (see: every mod with voice acting)
only ones I can think of are frostfall or hunterborn or something, and even then those are a little janky in some places
I can't think of a single mod I've installed that I'd fork over money for, really.
I have a question to ask.
Does anyone have a link or list of mods to make it so the game more "free".
In the sense of no main story, you just live the life of a chosen profession. And any mods that can enhance playing like that. Like making Skyrim into a Medieval Fantasy Simulator?
I feel like a lot of the issues I can think of for this whole fiasco are unique to the Elder Scrolls games, because of how they have such a vibrant community of modders that work together to create frameworks, tools, and conventions. Paid mods sounds fine for skins and items, but what about mods that are created as part of a group effort? What about compatibility between paid mods? Will compatibility patches still be created? What about abandoned mods? Nope, can't add your own fixes.
Plus, so many mods are based on frameworks like SkyUI's in-game mod interface. What if the equivalent to BodySlide, SKSE, SkyUI, or FNIS for the next Elder Scrolls was a paid mod? Oh man, I can only imagine the money being raked in by Valve and Bethesda soon.
"Hey Jimmy, leave the animations broken this time around too."
"What? Why? People hated that and made a huge mod to fix it."
"Because they'll make the mod again, and we can make money off of it. And then every mod that uses it will make us even more money, and..."

Alternate Start - Live another Life is great for starting off. It also hides the main quest until you pick up and read a certain note on a person you kill near the path to Helgen.

I know about that one, but are there any mods that make living a profession and living in a town more enjoyable. Like mods for house owning and decorations. Better pricing for things.
I've been out of the loop for Skyrim mods for a long while now. So I don't really know what's good and what's bad.

You could give Trade and Barter and Trade Routes a try. Together, they make living as a merchant feasible. Trade and Barter is basically an upgrade of the old Economies of Skyrim that's useful for any character. However, Trade Routes is a complex mod tailored for merchant playthroughs.
Cheskos' fishing mod got removed for using assets from FNIS

So... What was so great about Morrowind's main quest?

Personally I just like the characters and villians, which seem very original to me. The MQ is "alright." in terms of structure and pacing. The ash vampires and dagoth ur are terrifying, as are all the great house ruins and various cult shrines. I just don't get the same sense of foreboding about the LoTR-esque plotline in oblivion, or dragons in skyrim. Just the looming presence of red mountain and the ash monstrosities you stumble into are a really unsettling threat throughout your journeys in morrowind.
In general MQ's are sort of stupid though. It's such a one-upping contest in every installment, I'd rather have something like Daggerfall or Fallout New Vegas where the game is about playing factions and loyalties as a means of conveyance into the game world. Non-linear faction-play is infinitely more interesting than a railroading linear plotline, imo.
Well, if anything good came out of this, I'm finally justified in having many GBs worth of mods which I never actually use. Life in the Moddenbunker for me it is.
So I googled Steam Workshop...

IT'S IN THE NEWS.

The cat has spoke! Inigo remains free. Is good.
So what did I miss?

morrowind has a main quest? last time i played it, all i remember is the fantasy voice telling me to get the fuck off the boat and then i was literally free to do anything.

RIP 30% of Skyrim mods. I didn't actually think it would come to this.
Dark0ne is currently really stressed out, he was supposed to go on a vacation in Spain but he canceled because of this.
His current stance on Donations are the same; "The Description should only contain the description of the mod, but we're implementing a feature that will allow users to donate."

didn't someone actually joke about skyui being on the workshop
Wow that guy will most likely receive a lot of backlash.

5% back to the service? Might as well just give me a squirt of piss in my outstretched hand because the amount of money you'd get back from that deal with be worth about the same.

Clearly too stupid take an extra 5 seconds to realize almost no one supports this. Or he's just a dickhead.
Skyui is also already on the workshop fyi.
with the whole *runs away* thing, i'm pretty damn certain that the SkyUI guy was kidding
Someone posted this one one of the paid items, it's pretty great.
"Let me show you the power of modding, born of the internet, where my breath is long replay-ability! I breathe now, in royalty, and reshape this game which is mine. I do this for you, gamers, for i love you! Aye, love, LOVE! Even as beta versions, great mods cherished us. For they saw in us, in each of us, the future of Skyrim! The future of GAMING!" And there it is, friends! The ugly truth! We are the children of mods! Mods are the true gods of man! Ascended from code, to rule the realm of PC gaming! The very idea is inconceivable to our Valve overlords. Share the heavens with us? With gamers? HA! They can barely tolerate our presence on Nexusmods! Today, they take away your free mods. But what of tomorrow? What then? Does Steam take your player homes? Your NPC merchants? YOUR VERY HORSE ARMOR MODS? And what do the game developers do? NOTHING! Nay, worse than nothing! Their marketing machine enforces the will of the GabeN! Against it's own people! So rise up!"
Someone do a dialogue and voice replacer for this, I would download it.

woah im glad he backpedaled if I found out then I would've uninstalled it

I really hope so, because skyui is vital to so many other mods

I am strongly reminded of the day that Blizzard added ad banners to its forums. That was a fun day. I hate I lost all of the parody posts - I had them saved to a file on an old computer. Maybe I should start saving these so I can remember this day three years from now when modding is just another app store to ignore.

ROFLBURGER posted this in the SH thread. He could literally just post his mods to Nexus now with the South Park "We're Sorry" video as the description and I'd be just fine with that.
Gotta love how the under review mods are mostly joke mods that are charged an insane amount of money.
My favorite has to be this one.
