The Elder Scrolls Megathread XVI: Loremaster Extraordinaire

The fact that there is already a subreddit dedicated to pirating these mods is a good sign. This can't last when there is a large proportion of the community that are perfectly fine with pirating mods that in any other case would be free anyway.
I can see it already- A paid mod breaks from conflict with another, and the community pirates it and fixes it and re-releases it for free under a different name. As of yet, there is nothing Valve or Bethesda can do about that.
does anyone know how to fix the bug where when you charge a spell with a staff alongside a spell in the other hand, the spell in the other hand floats to the air?
I'm really disappointed in a lot of people involved in this. I can understand why modders would want something for their mods (especially for larger mods that take up a lot of time), but I don't like the way Valve/Bethesda decided to do this, and I don't like how some of the modders are acting in regards for it. Creating mods purely for the money doesn't seem like a good idea, especially seeing as (at least at the moment) the payment for it is unlikely to match up to the actual work. It splits up the modding community too, especially if something like SkyUI became only available through purchase. People that can't afford it could potentially be cut off from a chunk of mods. I'd much rather see an optional donation or a Patreon system put in place for this sort of thing. Even being able to choose to pay nothing with the pay what you want system would be better. I doubt that Valve is really going to try and improve the system based on how they're acting with it too.
I was intending on modding my Skyrim at some point soon, but I might just end up uninstalling the game and staying away from Bethesda's future games if this keeps up.
So, like, what's the long term appeal of joining the Volkihar vampires in the Dawnguard DLC? I mean, you get the 'block the sun for a day' power but that's just a lesser version of what Harkon wanted and apparantly he was too extreme but it's not like there's a Masquerade going on. Everyone knows vampires exist and are cunts so why not go all out? And when you do block the sun, vampires attack and kill everyone which you can do yourself. Other than the cattle and some minor upgrades to your vampire powers there doesn't even seem to be much of a short term appeal. Not like the loyalty of vampires goes very far considering some of them were planning on usurping Harkon anyway. The power of becoming a Vampire Lord isn't exclusive to that side, though a first-time player wouldn't know that nor would the PC. So... yeah, why?

This sounds familiar..
I can't find the article for it or remember what game it was, but EA fixed an issue with one of their own DRMs by downloading a crack from piratebay and patching it into the game

I recently started on Dawnguard and chose Vampires.
I realized it was a really shit decision 5 minutes in and went to my save 30 minutes back just so I could side with the Dawnguard.
Apparently the SKSE creator leaked SkyUI 5.0 alpha by mistake

Good on ya. It keeps on astounding me how deep in the shit that DLC is, I keep discovering more and more levels of arse.
Are there any mods that make playing with no UI whatsover doable? I mean like visual health indicators, a basic map, and that's about it.

You can set HUD elements to be completely hidden, but obviously then you won't have any indication of health or anything.
edit: but use the above it's definitely more what you want

Immature password for an immature mod author.
Can anyone recommend me any good Skyrim mods?

I could recommend pretty much every mod I'm using, but I'd rather not break the scrolling-fingers of the thread's readers.

Plan on installing requiem. Do you guys recommend it as well?
On top of that I was considering getting lots of the stuff in S.T.E.P. as I've heard some good things about that list of mods.
Thinking of trying ENB for the first time using realvision too.
I'm seriously considering making a cylinder in Maya, and bringing it over to Skyrim, without any textures, as a weapon, and putting it up on the workshop as a paid mod as a joke.
somebody count all the swords in the game and do a €/sword ratio with the current sale price and compare it to the mods sold.

Honestly, there's no need at this point. Pretty much everyone except for gaming journalism sites (lol) and diehard Valve fanboys/shills realizes the idea of paid mods is a joke and a load of bullshit.
70 swords.
It's currently listed at 3,74€
So that's 5,3 cents per sword disregarding the rest of the game.
To be honest beyond all that has been said, I think not only the quality but the quantity of paid for mods is kind of astounding.
A dollar for one weapon? I mean sure its one dollar but just one weapon? Why even bother? Why not make like 10 weapons and sell it for 5? I mean fuck me, you only get 0.25 cents for a dollar, whats the shitting point besides alienating users?
Its not even hard, assuming you go for the game's quality levels, its not a high poly game in terms of the weapon models, and if you just edit the existing resources like I have, I've already made several shields and weapons.
There is one, and only one, situation in which I'd be ok with a paywalled mod; anything with the quality of Skywind and beyond I'd be ok with paying even $10-$20. Anything less than that, and it doesn't feel worth any money whatsoever, except donations.
I was thinking the best way they could've done this besides introducing donations would be something parallel to the TF2 Workshop; except rather than Valve approves hats to be sold ingame, Bethesda/the game's devs tests and approves mods to be sold as third-party DLCs. The dev company puts some actual effort into so they earn their share, if the mods aren't at the dev's own expected level of quality they get in trouble for it too, it actually does promote high quality mods... could be great. We all know that's not gonna happen though, because it requires effort.
It's interesting that a prominent Morrowind modder wanted modding to be effectively like free and open software all the way back in 2005. Looks like that never caught on for the most part. The Sims Resource used to have an opt-in version of this not too long ago, but now I can't seem to find any indication of it.
