I got to be honest, I'm so active on doing this equipment mod and planning all the other ones I want to do. I might just up the ante and make a fully written and voice acted companion. Both as a gift to you guys and as a proof of something. I'm poor, foodbank poor, father doesn't work and we are in a rented house kinda poor. But not once, did I ever compromise who I am and what I do. Commissions and Jobs are one thing, but to take the gifts I've made and turn them into something pay for? I'd feel so guilty about that. It fucking sucks chipping away at school work while living in a house without heat or A/C, but not once will I ever make my gifts to this community pay for. I know some of you struggle as I do, struggle more than I do. I know some kid or even adult out there just wants to fucking play a game and have some fun in his life. maybe get inspired by what I and others do. God knows how many games I pirated cause I just couldn't afford them at all as a kid. So yeah, lets mod this shit, and lets mod it free.

I decided to try out Windsong's optional NPC addon and now Mjoll always has this big grin on her face. [t]http://i.imgur.com/AfCJMfm.jpg[/t] It's kind of unsettling but I'm not sure why.
Good thing this Free is free as in freedom not free beer, I still think that's the best model in society, everyone can monetize their own work as they want, content creators need to buy food too
That is the thing though, I can get what you're getting at and an extra stream of revenue can help, but our jobs should be what sustain us, or at least doing more professional commission styled works. But really, the problem isn't the individual mods or modders, its the system, its possibility for corruption, the whiplash it has brought, the sudden integration without any warning, and how it will change things on a wide scale.
This is so hypocritical beyond belief
How? Edit: It sounds like you think I'm doing this because I want the mods. I don't. I'd honestly rather them not even exist than be up for this milking.
It kind of reinforces the "you just want things for free" argument doesn't it
Are you seriously attacking the consensus and harassing people that don't agree with you, using buzzwords? Grow up.
In fact not to de-rail the thread convo here but I'd really like to ask. This character I want to write as a companion I have a few ideas for but I wanted to involve you guys a bit and see what people think. I have a deep voice with a good range, I can sound very gravely if I need to, if things work out my boyfriend may get me a blue yeti mic. I don't feel my acting would be the best, but sound quality and voice depth should not be a problem. Now the first question is, what should the character's race be? This is important, because while the main story I had planned would probably work with any race, this does mean that we have room to wiggle things around to take in account how his lore and history would be unique due to his race.
Bosmer. With a gravelly voice. Do it. All elves must be voiced by Jeff Baker accept no substitutes and gargle knives every morning.
Is it true that the Nexus is profiting from this?
Yes. Funny how everyone was just decrying Nexus not so long ago as the hive of sexoholics and people paying to be moderators and the place where you literally couldn't critique ANYTHING witout being permabanned and then suddenly it turned into the savior of modding. It's never been the savior of modding. Dark0ne has been trying to monetize Nexus for YEARS. Now he will, simply off the radar.
I thought an Argonian too would be interesting, but you guys really brought up a cool point, I've never seen any Breton companions, in-depth characters or (god-forbid) romances. I honestly never even thought of a Breton, but I really appreciate it. In-fact wow, reading about them, they're typically very cheery people. I imagined this character being more of a brooding Imperial who would warm up, sort of like say Boone from Fallout New Vegas, but this Breton idea really gives me a new idea or perspective. Thank you, this is really cool stuff and I don't know how far I'll get with it, but at the very least I'll be writing some proofs of concept and perhaps voicing them for people to see.
Wasn't there some other guy a long time ago named Sam Tilgan or whatever who nobody liked?
Okay, screw this. I'm going back to Oblivion. Anyone know any good mods? Preferably game-play oriented, I don't care too much about graphics mods.
I think it's safe to say Skyrim modding is dead now that SkyUI is a paid mod.
You're forgetting that he's also a major contributor to SKSE. Dead is not even close to the word.
Okay, screw this. I'm going back to Oblivion. Anyone know any good mods?
You're forgetting that he's also a major contributor to SKSE. Dead is not even close to the word.
Would 'eternally damned' be more fitting?
My favorite has to be the horse armor mod, it was so good they monetized it solely and even ported it to the consoles
Heh. Looking back, it really was the shape of things to come, wasn't it?
I'd like to go back to Oblivion but that motherfucking voice acting holy christ I suppose I could just turn the voice volume off altogether, but I dunno.
I'd like to go back to Oblivion but that motherfucking voice acting holy christ I suppose I could just turn the voice volume off altogether, but I dunno.
Spend a couple of hours playing, you'll get used to it.
Heh. Looking back, it really was the shape of things to come, wasn't it?
To be honest, I think that's how this whole thing should've been done. You ever hear how a lot of stuff in the DLC, such as Werebears, perks for werewolves, vampire creatures etc was part of a dev jam contest where the devs all worked on something cool and they put the best of it into the DLCs? That's how this should've been done. They should've had a 4 month contest and released all the winners into a DLC package. Maybe do this a multiple times even. It'd be way better than this second life esque marketplace bs
Hi, not sure if late: Wake me up, guys, please
I'd like to go back to Oblivion but that motherfucking voice acting holy christ I suppose I could just turn the voice volume off altogether, but I dunno.
For me it's those physics and animations, I only play skyrim because I dont like oblivion/fallout engine. [editline]24th April 2015[/editline]
Hi, not sure if late: Wake me up, guys, please
There's a way for people to set up where you must pay for their mods to use them. Edit: "Please buy the paid mod" yuck. That's for the description not mobile app esque spam
Spend a couple of hours playing, you'll get used to it.
Among other problems, but Oblivion's VA to me is like Resident Evil without the goofy charm. It's painful. Especially the female Elf and Redguard actresses. One sounds like she's falling asleep and the other sounds like she just doesn't give a fuck. Or maybe they both share those traits.
Hi, not sure if late: Wake me up, guys, please
Oh my sweet Jesus, this is actually happening.
I hate to repeat shit I've already said, but does anyone know any good Oblivion mods?
I'd like to go back to Oblivion but that motherfucking voice acting holy christ I suppose I could just turn the voice volume off altogether, but I dunno.
That's one reason I like Morroblivion. The only voice acting is the voice acting that existed in Morrowind. Also because I like the setting more than Cyrodiil.
I hate to repeat shit I've already said, but does anyone know any good Oblivion mods?
Shit, sorry. Uh... well unofficial patches of course, unlike you might want I was mostly playing vanilla with graphic enhancements here and there. The better faces mod being a big one.
To be honest beyond all that has been said, I think not only the quality but the quantity of paid for mods is kind of astounding. A dollar for one weapon? I mean sure its one dollar but just one weapon? Why even bother? Why not make like 10 weapons and sell it for 5? I mean fuck me, you only get 0.25 cents for a dollar, whats the shitting point besides alienating users? Its not even hard, assuming you go for the game's quality levels, its not a high poly game in terms of the weapon models, and if you just edit the existing resources like I have, I've already made several shields and weapons.
Because this is how Dota and TF2 work, and the system implemented is literal copy-paste. They did no outreach They did no communication They did no curation They did no council of wise polygonal and code based wizards overseeing for fair use and fair play They just said "it'll be too convenient to hate" and they rolled it out, and retained a metric fuckton of lawyers to enforce it The adage to remember here is one I've been saying since before I joined, when I totally converted AvP2 pretty much 100% under Fox's radar by riding the EULA like a Kanye Westified Gold-Digger. Do your fucking homework. Do your fucking homework. How quickly some forgot that the mod tools literally had to be dragged out of Beth this time, and they said up front and point blank, straight from both howard and the chief engine design manager that making mod tools available wasn't really in Bethesda's financial interest anymore. The ONLY reason the tools became available this time is sales justified it to a degree Beth never considered, and the sales jumped again as modded Skyrim actually began to outpopulate vanilla copies. I guarantee you that this has been in the works (as an idea, not as a concrete concept) for well over a year, probably closer to two and a half. The fact that valve chose to ignore a system they themselves implemented for fairness and oversight says all you need to know; and this isn't going to go away. It's done. The same sort of outcries happened when TF2 rolled over and Dota as well, and now buying extra shit is how casuals understand that the game works, and since Skyrim is either consistently the number three to sixth most played game on steam no matter WHAT else launches, even up to GTA, this is very probably how things are going to work from now on. The question you need to be asking yourself isn't "am I ok with this", the question you need to be asking is how soon before you need to email CDPR to set up mod curation for the Witcher and any subsequent open world fantasy titles they might want to make, cause Tamriel's golden chain fences aren't ever going to come back down, and you can be certain that about a year and a half to a year before TESVI arrives, Bethesda will be having very earnest chats with Sony and M$ as well.
I almost want the unofficial patches guy to monetize his shit with the pure intent of pissing everyone on all sides off, and proving that this is madness. I wonder if he can get away with it?
