Clearly the actions you take set you apart but the entire meaning of the post was that you start off as some asshole in jail for some random crime. Besides, doing all of that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief because there's no way a single human could get away with all of that in a single lifetime. [editline] Jan 14 2015 [/editline] Hell, it would be actually impossible to do some of that because even being associated with the Mythic Dawn, Daedra in any way and Dark Brotherhood would prevent you from being in half of those anyway.
(well of course i mean't that post jokingly.) but this part "Besides, doing all of that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief because there's no way a single human could get away with all of that in a single lifetime." Is not true The average High Elf can live for hundreds of years. if a high Elf was infected with Vampirism, he/she could easily live for thousands of years. to think that if you had a NPC like that in morrowind, he/she could easily see out the entire history of the chosen one in that game, wait a few hundred years travel to cyrodiil meet the new guy and see his entire history then travel to skyrim to meet the dragonborne and wouldn't have even aged past his prime

You are a prophecized hero who's existence was predicted by the word of the gods hundreds of years before you were born. You are literally the Jesus of the TES universe. Not to mention people in our world have made similar accomplishments in an even shorter life span than those in the game and without magical help. Think like Alexander the Great.
Also, a little extra: [t]http://i.imgur.com/6j84XmO.png[/t]
What font is this? I'm bad at graphic design whatevers.

We're talking about the universe where a poet reaches self-awareness about his fictional nature and wields a god's cock as a weapon and a guy who used a fucking mecha to conquer the entire Tamriel continent, just to mention two common examples. You're a normal guy, just like the Nerevarine was a normal guy, hell, there were other wannabe-Nerevarine fulfilling the same premises of the prophecy before the true one. The actions make the hero in the TES universe, not the fucking heritage or social status. The Dragonborn is a different story, because Bethesda.
What font is this? Decided to make an archer that uses only conjured weapons, is pretty fun. I have found the key to actually playing rather than mod fighting. Only get the unofficial patches, skyui, and maybe a texture mod. Then, only get mods for stuff that really annoy me.

Still, my favorite thing about Oblivion's opening was that even you don't know why you're in jail.
IIRC the prophecies are in the scrolls, but no one can read them so no one actually knows except for the player
Also the moth priests, and anyone who has read their archives (I'm pretty sure they chronicled prophecies?) edit: also I'm pretty sure the Last Dragonborn is the only PC to ever actually read an Elder Scroll, and they still needed the help of the moths to actually read one and not just abuse their connection to time to open up the time wound. [editline]14th January 2015[/editline]
There must be something special about them though, if they featured in Uriel's prophetic dream right before he conveniently had to pass through their cell.
It's like Pelinal; he's a chosen super-warrior come to save the day, but really he was just there to clear the path for Alessia to do the real work. [sp]please let this merge i've never tried automerge before[/sp]
So, as I'm getting into heavily modding my ES games again in a week or so, I'm curious as to what Oblivion's big graphics mod is, if it has one. Morrowind has Morrowind 3.0 (may it live forever), Skyrim has the sea of ENBs, but what about Oblivion? It's really the only TES game I didn't mod much and I'm curious as to what kind of graphical update mods you all would recommend. Sort of unrelated, but my favorite Morrowind setup is with Morrowind 3.0, and with Tamriel Rebuilt's soundtrack included with the game's original soundtrack. My reason for adding it in was that my main gripe with Morrowind was that the game was huge and fun to explore, but hearing the same few tunes over and over would drive me insane, since the soundtrack is pretty short compared to Oblivion and Skyrim. Some of the tunes from Tamriel Rebuilt are just too good.
With all the snow in skyrim it's really a shame they didn't add some better effects for it, like actually walking in it, not on top of it. [t]http://thebestgamesiteever.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/AC3-snow.jpg[/t]
For some reason, that actually made me realize I've bought Oblivion a total of 5 times over the course of 8 years. I got it for 360, PC, PS3, Steam, and with the Elder Scrolls Anthology. I think each of those besides Steam came with a map too. :v:
A late one though it may be, I decided I wanted to reply to this. I bought The Shivering Isles before I even owned a copy of Oblivion. I had borrowed a friend's and bought the DLC, then later down the road when the friend wanted it back, I bought the GOTY edition, and gave my Shivering Isles disc to another friend. Later I found a copy of the Collector's Edition without the Septim, but bought it anyway for the case and Pocket Guide to the Empire, and now I'm buying it again for the Septim and also still have to pick it up for Steam, and also still plan on getting the Anthology when I can... v:v:v Oh, and I even bought all the inconsequential DLC like horse armor and junk.
alright i've decided to give oblivion another go gimme the essential mods regarding gameplay, getting rid of the ugly faces, shit like that. no enbs necessary.

are those patches necessary for the steam version?

I can't fucking breathe
Oblivion is always my least modded of the modern Elder Scrolls games. I get the character overhaul, francesco's overhaul, real swords, and those officla/unofficial patches. That's pretty much it. I'm just a weirdo who likes vanilla Oblivion.
It's fine but it deserves all the shit it gets. There's a lot of issues but it's actually the one with the most potential. Skyrim has some neat stuff too but any mod that tries to add functionality from the older ones back into it will just always be ridiculously clunky. Like chances are it's gonna work through menu pop ups or something. Some things you can't even mod back in actually.
I mean I really just like dungeon crawling in Oblivion and selling my loot back for tons of money. I play Daggerfall the same way. I enter a cheat code to find every location on the map, and I spend the game hopping from dungeon to town to dungeon to town, selling off loot and leveling up, until I get killed, then I start all over. Once I had so much gold on me I became over-encumbered. Daggerfall is like my favorite game of all time though, it's so addictive.
Fact is there really isn't any way to fix how bad the characters look. But you'll forget all about it with all of the outstanding mods that are out there for improving and expanding on the game's world and completely overhauling the gameplay.
I dunno, the mods I posted I can't live without.

Makes oblivion's level scaling problems slightly better
Also worth considering: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/35333/? Oblivion XP, replaces Oblivion's levelling with a standard "complete quests/do things, fill XP bar, improve skills on level up" system. Far less painful than Oblivion's default system, but less in keeping with TES's general skill mechanics.
Man, Unique Uniques is a neat mod and all but that Pale Blade replacer is straight up dumb imo.
Let me start by suggesting you stay away from any sort of character overhaul or face replacement. For whatever reason when it comes to the NPCs 99% of the mods you'll find will turn everyone into something vaguely kawaii looking.
OCO v2's actually pretty good at bucking that trend; NPC's by and large look less spuddy without turning the guards into Korean pop stars.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/DHbpZyc.jpg[/t] Pretty good I'd say.
they all have really really pointy chins
they all have really really pointy chins
Who cares? They are no longer potato degenerates.
Who cares? They are no longer potato degenerates.
I agree it looks better but it's still bland. Characters in Skyrim also look good but incredibly bland. It's like every race has 2-3 looks, there's not much variation to it. I don't mind if some people are ugly as long as others look good and vice versa.
There is not enough emotion in their faces. Needs more vivid movements in their expressions.
There is not enough emotion in their faces. Needs more vivid movements in their expressions.
I don't think you can judge emotion itself from one photo tbh. I was talking more about beauty/ugliness, and just generally some more interesting character looks. Oblivion has plenty of emotion (sometimes too much) while Skyrim is void of it, animation-wise.
If you can stomach the arduous install process, FCOM: Convergence is a great Oblivion mod pack. It combines Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, Martigen's Monster Mod, Oblivion WarCry, and Francesco's Leveled Creatures-Items so they all work together. edit: more up to date link from december 2014
