it's not flat if we're going relative to real life. it's just that everything else is higher contrast (which may be a good thing for games like skyrim, but that's another topic)
[editline]27th February 2015[/editline]
i'm partial to Seasons of Skyrim ENB. it doesn't go for a realistic look, but rather a nicely saturated, not over the top vibrant fantasy look.
Actually it is, what it has accurate are blue levels, which are damn near about 1:1 to the picture xubs posted; red and green is another matter entirely and most current art students tend to reinforce blue = real, which simply makes everything look washed the fuck out ala the decoder Disney/ABC uses for their transmissions which is one of flattest when decoded.
Like I said it's not bad, and I'd prolly use it if I didn't have my own setup, but it isn't terribly accurate to this:

These are blued the fuck out, yet you'll notice the red and greens look nothing like NLA. I'll assume monitors are calibrated correctly.

Is pretty good guy and doesn't afraid of anything.
I personally still use K ENB, only thing wrong with it for me is how demanding it is
what are some good enough non-performance hog enbs?
Skyrim Enhanced Shaders might not be too bad. I don't use other preset ENBs though. Find one you like for aesthetics / colours, then tweak the quality settings on your own.

Seasons, Phinix

These photos are very post processed and saturated. I do a lot of landscape photography on professionally calibrated IPS panels and that's one thing I could tell you right away
[editline]27th February 2015[/editline]
OOC or by eye there would have to be very perfect lighting conditions for it really to look like that, and the sky probably never would have as much clarity or be that colour
for reference, here's a photo I shot and edited in mid day conditions. Did my best to keep the colours closer to reality which I don't often do
[t]https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7434/12862770333_e8e151b4f4_k.jpg[/t]
The sky isn't insanely saturated, the shadows on the snow have a mild bluish tinge and the greens don't stand out like a sore thumb
things look a lot different in snowy environments, and from what I can see I think NLA does a good job replicating it
I updated the OP a bit with some essential mods. Did i forget something or is it good enough?
I rather not shit up the thread with my pc so can we honestly drop it.
Before we drop it completely I just want to say this
Whenever you recover from the financial setback, come by the H&S section if you hadn't thought of that already, we'll get you hooked up with a parts list. Although I didn't get to see what you wound up with apart from "an i7" and a crap-ass GPU, from the sounds of the thread it sounds pretty salvageable.
SkyUI is also essential
SkyUI is a really great upgrade from the basic clunky UI, but as i explained in the first part of the OP essential mods are those who seek to just fix the game without additional stuff.

Add a level scaling fix to the oblivion mods i can't seem to find one though thats decent seeing as I'm getting wrecked at level 7
I made a stupid mod for Oblivion. I replaced the battle music of Oblivion with music from Metal Gear Rising Revengence. I made this mod because I got a unleveled mod, so most of the battles are to the death.
Add a level scaling fix to the oblivion mods i can't seem to find one though thats decent seeing as I'm getting wrecked at level 7
The level scaling is awful but sadly it's part of the original design.
Every TES is plagued by nasty shit, Morrowind has slow as shit running speed and irritating fatigue management, Oblivion has shit scaling and Skyrim has absolutely useless magic, except when enemies use it against you.
Maybe i can add a gameplay section later, do you have some suggestions apart from Francesco's Mod and OOO and FCOM?
Are there any good horror themed mods for Oblivion or Skyrim? Or just something to give them a darker atmosphere in general?
Hey, I remember the ~level 7 scaling bump from Oblivion. When you're going along, getting into the groove, finally mastering the killing of imps and OH MY GOD A MOUNTAIN LION
I don't remember having any weird scaling problems in Oblivion.
I don't remember having any weird scaling problems in Oblivion.
Depends on how you play, you may have been lucky but as far as general gameplay goes if you don't pump up endurance early on you're gonna get fucked in later levels.
The game is a lot better if you ignore leveling up entirely and stay level 1 forever.
I'm convinced that people who make like, 90% of the ENB's have never looked outside.
Are there any good horror themed mods for Oblivion or Skyrim? Or just something to give them a darker atmosphere in general?
Unfortunately horror doesn't transfer well to Skyrim. Some have attempted it, but none that I've played have succeeded.
high, NLA is an intensive ENB preset
How high? Would this handle it?
[t]http://puu.sh/gfaUq/5246bcdfdd.png[/t]
at 1080p, most likely!
i can maintain 45FPS at 4k with SoS enb on my 970 & 4690k so i would like to think your similarly-specced build could handle NLA at 1080@60
[editline]27th February 2015[/editline]
it (might) take a little bit of tweaking, changing AO/DoF and shadow settings but it should certainly be doable

I didn't know Schlongs of Skyrim had its own ENB.
But seriously, way to many mods for skyrim share that acronym. Sounds of Skyrim, the aforementioned dirty mod, and now Seasons of Skyrim ENB.
Does anyone have an optmized/tweaked skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini for me ? I've been using EWIs High SkyrimPrefs and inis's but it has been removed from the nexus.
I used this guide / thing

Please take video of this.
Uh, no, NLA doesn't tint the colors down into the blues. If it did, the red of scenes like
[t]http://static-1.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/50065-1-1390864491.jpg[/t]
would probably be more white and the blacks would be more blue, while the greens of scenes like
[t]http://static-1.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/50065-1-1390962325.jpg[/t]
would also be paler. The preset is actually fairly neutral, as we can see in a overcast scene like:
[t]http://static-4.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/50065-3-1405304605.jpg[/t]
where the shadows are black. The overcast diffuses the color of the blue sky and since the blue sky is what gives the tint of the shadows on white snow, the shadows aren't blue here. In fact, they're only blue on snow and other similar surfaces, which is true to life -- NLA uses various features to tint shadows on different surfaces based on the sky's lighting conditions, which is accurate to how shadows really work.
The ENB is not actually tinting the whole scene itself. It's tinting the shadows specifically based on the color of the surface and condition of the sky, as well as the amount of light it would be receiving based on the time of day. This is why interiors look likely a slightly darker, more saturated version of vanilla -- if it WAS "just a tint" the whole screen would still be blue, even in interiors. But it isn't really.
This is different from other ENBs I've used in the past (I've used a lot, Realvision, Project ENB, True Vision, etc) which don't really seem to use ENB's featureset to its full abilities. Most I've used simply have the shadows be full or nearly black or gray, all the time, which is NOT true to life whatsoever.
I think the biggest complaint I have for the ENB overall is that interiors are underwhelming (ENB has very little control over interiors so it's fine) and a bit of work could be done on shadow darkness, but overall it looks as accurate as can possibly be.
I was gonna write a giant paragraph with screenshots refuting most of this but I'll let the interior and cave and sunset scenes and skin radiosity shots speak for themselves here:

That is some overblued and crushed to fuck contrast. While you are absolutely quite right about the shadows, it's still not terribly realistic in any sense, and just as stylized as K or RV or Serenity, just in a certain direction that most ENBs have never attempted to take.
calibrate
First thing I did after getting this monitor was to calibrate it with Spyder Elite and XRite, and the second thing I did was take it apart and peeling the glare protection off.
Easy trick is set your digital vibrance to max for an hour and then come back to the pics and video, then set it back to normal and try to unsee the blue as hell lightspacing and flattened blacks.
Until recently I've been away from skyrim for a while, so I forget:
Are Forsworn Briarhearts supposed to be able to 1-2 hit you?

Are Forsworn Briarhearts supposed to be able to 1-2 hit you?
What difficulty are you on? I started a new character and used a random start mod that spawned me extremely close to some Forsworn, and I totally killed all their asses fairly easily, minus those fucking assholes that shoot explosive fireballs at you.

unless I'm not understanding the mechanics properly (or my RNG is messed up), you're going to also want to grind agility up a lot too or you'll be staggered constantly
Holy fuck. I just reinstalled Morrowind with Tamriel Rebuilt and Morrowind Rebirth, and everything feels so much bigger and interesting. Balmora feels like a new city; Seyda Neen has a new burst of life to it. I've never felt so intrigued and eager to play.

My mod is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
