Full power unrelenting force will always be the best to me, purely for watching enemies fly away
Oblivion had so much better questlines than skyrim
Oblivion had so much better questlines than skyrim
No, i disagree...
what oblivion had was better AREAS where the quests where set in.
I thought the fire and frost breath shouts were underwhelming considering dragons can have actual fire/frost breath and you just get wimpy balls of it. So I got a mod to fix that.
Aside from that, I also happen to be partial to Throw Voice on stealthier characters. "Hey, melon nose~"

Oblivion scenery was shit compared to skyrim but it fels so much better
[editline]28th February 2015[/editline]
There's a reason i'd play oblivion 120 hours and skyrim only 60
I made my oblivion game a little more sexier

The towns in Oblivion are a lot better. I think the dungeons in Skyrim are better, though. Most of them have their own little story and aren't the same damn elven ruin over and over again. Well, as much. Nord ruins can be kind of samey, even if they throw in an extra theme to try and keep them interesting.

Mages Quest Progression in Oblivion:
1. Get recommendations from all the guilds, all provide interesting insight on the stability of magic in Cyrodiil.
2. Get your own staff, encounter shit whilst getting your own staff
3. Research shit and a difficult puzzle
4. Covert shit that tells you more about the stability of the guild
5. Another difficult puzzle
6. Puzzle
7. Deep shit that tells you more about how bad necromancers are
8. Sidetracked, but interesting quest
9. Deep shit
10. Deeper shit
11. Climax, you are now archmage
Mages Quest Progression in Skyrim:
1. Cast a basic spell or just say "I'm dragonborm, bitch"
2. Learn a spell (this was pretty neat, no lies tho)
3. Explore an ancient rune as part of an expedition
4. YOU DISCOVER SOMETHING AMAZING AND RECEIVE VISIONS AND YOU'RE PRETTY MUCH THE CHOSEN ONE AGAIN
5. Silly retrieval quest that involves you clearing out a dungeon
6. Talk to a ghost or something
7. Get a mediocre staff
8. SHIT GOES DOWN
9. congrats you're now arch mage
Been playing Oblivion for the first time, holy shit, the thieves guild actually forces you to be a thief!
Not to mention the Dark Brotherhood guy is so much creepier than Astrid.
I think I'm going to like this game somehow :v:

I've thought about all these shit. 3/4 guilds were good. No one played fighters quild lol.
I could also get on about the dark brotherhood quest too
Oblivion: Slowly progressing through the ranks
Skyrim: CONGRATS YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE
[editline]28th February 2015[/editline]
Companions/Fighters guild:
Oblivion: Slowly progressing through the ranks
Skyrim: CONGRATS YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE
bethesda has a chosen one fetish, they decided to go all out with skyrim
the thing is that the faction quests are all very compact and short so it does feel kinda rushed, but most likely the only way they could've fleshed it out is having you do a bunch more radiant quests between main parts of the quest
like the companions you aren't really (iirc) a chosen one or anything, you just happen to be the best recruit they've had in ages so they let you into their secret elite. The mage quest in skyrim could honestly not have included the psijic order were it not for the fact they had to magic away the eye somehow, and you could just be a very good adventurer.
With the exceptions of the main quest and the DB quest, you're not exactly the chosen one so much as someone who is very good at adventuring while everyone else is a bit rubbish.
I get virtually unplayable lag when playing the Dragonborn DLC. It's been about a year since I last played Skyrim, but I remember having a really good framerate. Now it's unbearable.
What should I do?
it's like you're not specifically the chosen one for every single faction, you're just the dragonborn which makes you as good as a 'chosen one' for every order.
Invisible village FTW.
that was a homage to people. The questlines were so much better all the time
[editline]1st March 2015[/editline]
i know you all played oblivion many many hours before even starting the main quest. In skyrim we always started the main quest right away
Welp, I've encountered a bug in Skyrim. I'm trying to go to the Western Watchtower and do the dragon thing and all that but Irileth's ass doesn't feel like moving much past the main gate. She just stands there with the guard doing jack shit. Anyone ever had this issue?

I really got tired of ending a guild quest line and being a god among the other members. I would like to see in the next Elder Scrolls game, that you climb through the ranks, but in the end you are below a few people still.
Also, I think it kills the immersion when your character is a Master Thief, Mage, Assassin, and Fighter all at once. I know Bethesda wouldn't go through with this, but it would be nice if you could only pick one guild to level up through. There would be an actual desirable reward at the end that would make it worth committing to one or the other.

The whole point of the series and the very reason it's so popular is that they don't limit anybody to anything and leave that up for the player to decide. If you don't want to be the master of every guild, then don't be, but some people do.

Mod list? Also how has your fps not taken a nose dive into the 20s. Even with medium settings outside with no visual mods (tons of other mods probably killing my fps) I get like 20-40 fps outdoors.

There's no benefit to being guild master anyway. You get a fancy house and some armor if you're lucky and that's it. In oblivion you just get money occasionally and you can't even do jobs yourself anymore since you're too high ranking.
Finished Dragonborn's main story. I spent almost an hour fighting Miraak, not because he was hard. He disappeared completely instead of disappearing and then reappearing across the area
Looking at mod ideas
some that really caught my eye:
"once a week cities will announce competitions:
Horse racing, brawls, bow and arrow competition with prizes"
"the children of the player will have a babysitter to play with children and keep them company while you are away"
"Jarls will tour the city escorted by his guards and Housecarl"
that would be pretty neat
The thing is though they set up the story and progression so that it pushes you towards being a master. It's not optional unless you want to skip out on the story content for the guild. They should have made being a guild mastery a different path than the main guild story.
Sure, but I would much rather be "forced" into being the master of every guild after joining than only be allowed to join one guild, like 4yourmalice suggested.
I remember a while back I had a mod that put thousands of stray draugur outdoors. It was fun plowing through them for a while but when they killed NPCs I was like "dang maybe I should remove this"

I think that would be a great system. Allow the player to join each and every guild they want, and they can rank up only to certain point. This would gain the player small benefits from each guild. A guild "master" quest line would then be available, giving a perk of some kind once completed. Only one guild can be completed at a time though. If you wanted to complete another guild's master quest, you would have to forfeit the perk of the other one. It'd be a similar system to the Standing Stones in Skyrim.
The system of making the "become guild master" quests separate from the main guild quest line is a great idea, but arbitrarily limiting the player with how many guilds they can be master of isn't. That's the sort of niche thing that should be left to mods.
The thing is, most guild questlines have ended in either someone (Usually the old leader) pretty much saying "hey this guy's the leader now" with no one contesting it it or you doing something significant enough that being named the leader's really only a formality with all the respect you earned from doing that thing. Usually both. Neither of those are exactly something that being the leader of a different guild would really stop.
