The Elder Scrolls Megathread XVI: Loremaster Extraordinaire

So I have continued to tweak my Skyrim to make it look as nice as possible with the least impact on performance. This currently gets 60 fps indoors (actually higher but I had to limit it because everything flew around the room and tried to kill me) and 50 outdoors with some drops down to 30 depending on the situation. Ill use shadowplay a bit later to upload some of it in action.

Actually I just peed everywhere. Yea I noticed it was a yellow tinge after I took the screenshot, so currently am trying to adjust it be a more blue.
edit - actually it was a merging zone between the marshes and the dawnstar area so I think it may be due to a custom texture which was attempting to mix the marsh mud/dirt with snow(??????) Because you can see areas where it is normally white and white has been showing up unaffected until this picture.

"Patrolling the Alik'r desert almost makes you wish for a snow storm from Skyrim."

God damn this looks disgusting, the textures look like they've been sharpened way too much.
I know you're kinda joking but
Black Mesa got released after a billion years so I never take lofty mod goals as being a clear sign that a mod will never get released. Not saying Skywind's going to be out within a meaningfully close time frame but they are using a much more productive system of crowd-developing the game like Unreal Tournament 4, which I think makes actually getting the product done and released a much more realistic goal. If it was just a few dudes, no, Skywind's not getting anywhere, but Skywind has like several hundred users that on-off contribute to development. Different aspects of development, yes, and many of which are contributing to things like concept art which technically doesn't advance development nearly as much as others do, but, it's there.
same with Beyond Skyrim, which are all using the crowd-developing method. Enderal's community already successfully launched a whole total conversion, Nehrim, which I believe used a partial implementation of the crowd-developing model, proving it's at least somewhat workable.
we'll see where things go
I just hope Skywind doesn't require me to lower my settings to get a decent framerate like Morroblivion does.
Every time I've installed graphical and weather mods I always end up with snow being way too bright and blinding me. I did use imaginator to turn the brightness way down but even then it's still blinding.

I showed this to someone across the room and they could still see the sharpening. :v:
I've been reading more lore stuff and oh god why does TES writing have the best lines
From the Trial of Vivec:
Vivec assembles a spear from the bones of his armor.
Vivec: "Here, this is Muatra. Guess what it represents."
Vivec stuffs Muatra into Azura's mouth. Azura chokes!
Apparently a mix of opium and synaesthesia makes for great writing
It may be just me but visually speaking the best way to play Skyrim is either as depressingly bleak and desaturated as possible to drop it straight into grimdark territory, or as a completely unrealistic massive LSD induced explosion of colors so it looks like the highest of fantasy settings.
Any sort of middle ground, high contrast crushed blacks "photo-realistic" setting just doesn't work that well.

Skyrim is a cold harsh land, with Tundra's, snow and ice blasted buildings and forests, murky swamps, and a very frozen north, it also borders the nation with the still erupting Volcano.
Yeah Skyrim is gonna look like that for a reason
Elder Scrolls has always been at that neutral point for fantasy. It's not dark, nor light hearted. It's kind of campy, but doesn't go too far with it. It just wouldn't work as a dark Fantasy (like the Witcher).
It needs exaggerated colors, but not over/under-saturated ones.
all colors presets that arn't mine are shit
Anyone know what the Skyrim update did today? I just got home and it's updated for some reason.

Literally "Furry - the race".

I get this less than skimpy armor mods.
It gets worse (NSFW).

Where's the Vigil when you need 'em?
You know, you actually have to be looking for these.
Like, this isn't even the kind of thing you find by going on the nexus and looking at the front page, since the nexus has had an option to block out exactly this kind of stuff for like two years.
I don't get why you're surprised that a fetish you're not into appears as really fucking weird when you stumble on it. But why look for it in the first place ?

They were user screenshots for a race mod. Not like I'm going to some tentacle rape site and going "what a bunch of freakos, sharing their fetish here".

Filtering out anime is pretty justifiable, but there are some combat mods, blood texture mods and even some somewhat decent and not overly sexualized armor mods that are marked under the adult tag. The lore-friendly-tag doesn't work on that mod either because there is technically a dog race in the TES universe that people keep hiding behind.
Would anybody be interested in a "lore-friendly" version of AFT? It'd be exactly the same in terms of functionality, but dialogue would be actual dialogue instead of just options, and companions would respond to you.

I've been looking for an ENB preset that looks identical to vanilla without just ticking the "use the game's own post processing" box
I kind of want to try playing Skyrim with some values only slightly tweaked and see what that does.

How did Bretons go from badass warriors to boring old men?

That's not an entirely accurate chart, from what I hear. On initial release of Arena, Dark Elves were actually Redguard Elves. Some re-release or something after Daggerfall changed that.
