I've been on sl since I think late 2007, I had to keep registering accounts though cause I kept getting banned, but now I'm kind of laying low. I make a comfortable living dj'ing different sim openings and such in sl. However the misconception that "Furries tend to only hang out in furry sims" is really untrue, they are everywhere. There are a bunch of furry sims in which they congregate, but they still are everywhere. Most of second life is cool if you know where to go and know the places to stay away from, but there is a tremendous amount of fucked up shit in sl that would make the most jaded internet person turn their head. The wastelands is pretty cool (I think its the second or third picture?) and one of my good friends actually owns and runs the sim. As far as being social is concerned, its not really worth it in sl. But if you're creative as fuck and looking for a new outlet then I suggest giving second life a try. Supposedly linden lab is going to update the client with a mesh upload option which means if you're really good and versed in a program such as blender, maya, zbrush, etc. You'll be able to make complete avatars that actually look and work the way you intended, making avatars with these programs right now is very possible ("sculpts" are what they're called) but because of buggy coding and shitty default meshes, its quite hard to make an avatar that stays true to the vision you had in mind. I know something awful has a sim that I used to hang out in as well as belong to the group, but I left because everyone basically went insane in the name of "being ironic"- i.e. dressing up in child avatars, furry avatars, etc. IIRC the owner of the sim has been walking around as a 8 year old little girl for as long as I can remember, but hey if thats your thing! My SSN and Drivers License both come up with failed verification :(.
