Welp, well that was a huge letdown.
This is even more a letdown to me then what i expected Spark Unlimited would be making Battlefront 3 and it turned out to be Lost planet 3. Evil Genius 2 is the only game other than HL2:EP3 that i REALLY want.

fuck episode 3
Evil Genius 2 is the ONLY game I want
Well that is unfortunate. I don't even know anyone anymore who is interested in Facebook games, so this will probably bomb.

And when it does, they better not blame the Evil Genius license and say it has no market appeal. I hope Rebellion is not that stupid and arrogant.
Where has the news that it'll be a social facebook game come from? Rebellion can't think that's what people want. Can they?

The Twitter messages like this:
Gather your minions! Evil Genius Online is coming to Facebook and Zynga in 2013!
And on the Rebellion Facebook page. It's definitely some sort of Social/Facebook Browser game.
This is like when you were a kid, and they made your favorite disney movie a television show.
This is like when you were a kid, and they made your favorite disney movie a television show.
That is not necessarily a bad thing. What they've done here is hyped up a game that people have been waiting years for and then when it's eventually shown it goes completely against expectations in a way that no one wants or would even consider when thinking about a sequel.
Why the fuck you would tease a facebook game on your twitter like that is beyond me. EG fans that bother with checking the damn twitter and ask devs questions aren't the kind that want a facebook EG game anyway. Go advertise that on Oprah or something, that's hits closer to the right playerbase for it.
It turns people who were once devoted fans into bitter enemies, and reduces the chance that we'll buy or bother with their games in the future.
They had me excited, then they took a huge, steaming dump. I'm strongly going to consider not bothering with whatever Rebellion game comes out next now.

Hell, EG had a cult fanbase, all who liked the same sort of things. It's an easy market. Sure it won't be a great hit, but you'd break even, have a load of buyers, and we're all pretty easy to please due to our wants being the same. To hype it up to and then alienate that cult following is just rediculous.

Okay, it's like they made a television show out of your favorite disney movie, and it ended up being Emperors New School
Saw this thread bumped and hoped we finally had some good news.
I think I died a little inside
Why would you go trough the hassle of hyping a new game when it will clearly dissapoint any long term fans is beyond me.

It seems like they have no idea what they are doing or what their fans want. Maybe they thought when people asked for EG2 they wanted a sequel to the Facebook game they made.
Developer Rebellion will release a follow-up to world domination simulator Evil Genius later this year. Evil Genius Online, the studio announced today, will bring the super-villain sim to Facebook and Zynga as part of a simultaneous launch.

Got that from a game reviewer.
Whelp. There goes my hype train. Just hoping nobody takes out the rail bridge.

Story from yesterday
I don't know. Maybe at the end of the day, it's better that Rebellion, a first person shooter dev, doesn't make an Evil Genius game that they have no idea what they're doing with. I'm a bit surprised no one has tried to kick start a spiritual sequel.

except sniper elite owned?
I believe Rebellion also did the The Warriors game, which was pretty damned fun. Tedious in some areas, but fun.
except sniper elite owned?
Yes, they also make third person shooters but have never had any experience with anything else. Sniper Elite V2 is also their only recent (2010 onward) game that can be described as decent. The rest have been pretty bad or incredibly mediocre (looking at things like Never Dead and Nazi Zombje Army).

Yeah that was Rockstar.
I wish they would sell the rights to EG... then someone else could make EG2 for us.

This facebook/browser game is the sequel. By simultaneous launch it means it will be on Facebook and Zynga at the same time.

Well, when it happens do tell us how it is. This has to at least be better than their first attempt at a Facebook evil genius game.
Everyone should send a message to Jason Kingsley and the Rebellion Twitter page asking if there is a chance for a real sequel to Evil Genius. I really hope they at the very least say something about that.
Evil Genius Online? Zynga and Facebook?
I'll go and cry in the shower now.
