Planetside 2 V6 - VS capped Indar? It's more likely than you think
anybody know of a good NC outfit on connery?
apparently my old outfit from helios turned into the elite cod cool kid club and kicked anyone who wasn't under the age of 12.
i also see that the wraith cloak did exactly what i thought it would.
get the flashes only gun worth using nerfed into oblivion.
The Kobalt is actually pretty badass on the Flash, so I'm not crying too hard about the Fury getting a nerf. The Wraith cloak is the only real defensive option the Flash has, so if sacrificing the boomtube is the cost of that, I suppose that's pretty much okay. I am crying quite hard about them also completely breaking the handling, quadrupling the resource cost, and totally shattering its role by releasing the superior-in-every-single-way-imaginable Harasser (faster, more maneuverable, better handling, more firepower, full driver protection, nearly as much armor as a Lightning), however. The Flash is even more of a screaming metal deathtrap than it was before.
Please fix the handling, Sony. The Flash should be the fastest and most maneuverable land-based vehicle in the game, because it is a one man vehicle with limited firepower and no driver protection whatsoever, you know? Just fix that, and I'll be a happy Planetsider.
I keep getting vague emails about optimization. Have they actually improved how the game runs yet or are they talking about how they're going to improve it?

Apparently there have been some semi-minor patches which are resulting in notable framerate increases (especially for GeForce users), but the real overhaul is coming sometime in the next week or so.
The fact they increased the resource cost is a right fucking piss-off. It had its role as cheap disposable transport to move you (and another dude) from A to B and then you toss it into a ditch and move on. The price hike might have made more sense if they made it a more valuable vehicle but they didn't! It's still a flimsy piece of shit which gets you killed most of the time by flipping and exploding. The game has no cheap transport option anymore so now it's pretty common to see entire platoons just legging it from one base to another rather than grabbing flashes. Roads being choked up by flashes and tanks used to be a common sight - not anymore.
I'd be perfectly fine with paying 100 resources if the Flash were a much more capable combat vehicle. Right now it is suffering heavily from three major drawbacks that prevent it from shining:
1) Its handling is complete shit. Low speed, no traction, poor turning, an absurdly bumpy ride, and the simple knowledge that yes, you WILL flip over and die for practically no reason cause hopping on a Flash to be an exercise in luck.
2) It is too difficult to use the Flash's weaponry. They have a very narrow field of fire, meaning you have to line your Flash up with your target in a suicide run to shoot them (which would be alright, if it weren't for that poor handling I mentioned making lining up that shot hugely frustrating, both because you have such poor turning AND because of the massively unsmooth ride).
3) The Harasser does literally everything better. The Flash is overshadowed in every possible way. The Harasser is faster, has way better handling, a lot more firepower, and is so many orders of magnitude more survivable that it's almost embarrassing to mention. Obviously it should have a large armor and firepower advantage, but to make it both faster and more maneuverable? Yuck!
You can still have a boatload of fun on a Flash, but it takes a lot of patience, a lot of certs, and a lot of time, and at the end of the day you'd still be doing better if you hopped in any other vehicle. Screw canon: make Flash's a hoverbike, give them fixed forward guns (vertical rotation only), and allow them to strafe. Or just fix the dang thing!
log in to play some planetside before i go to bed.
vanu has 48% of the server population and controls roughly 80% of all three continents.
i guess thats enough planetside for tonight...

I don't see why this is in any way a bad thing.
After all, you're not trying to shoot _allies_. (Edit: Or raise enemies)
That is, unless you're Vanu, in which case, go roll a alt.

It's a bad thing because you will get steam rolled in anything you try and do and that is no fun.
i wish they'd hurry up with the first optimization patch, i've been wanting to play again but am just waiting for it

Remember, the future of combat vehicle design is to have no suspension. Battlefield 3 said so.

If all you do is try to cap territories, sure. If you're trying to get points and have some fun, it's much easier to find fights when you're outpopped than it is when you outpop.
Start figuring out where the good fights are going on, start approaching the battle differently. I guarantee you that you will find something profitable and fun to do in a lot of the battles where you're severely outpopped. Not all of them, don't get me wrong, sometimes it just sucks - but most of them you will.
You won't win alerts. That's just what happens. However, if you're doing it right, you'll make more points than someone on the winning faction would anyway.
It's enough of a difference that I often pick which character to play out of five purely based on which faction/server combination is the most outnumbered.
If you haven't already, set your map filters to have both enemy and ally activity, turn off influence glow/grid/control borders/resource#'s. Suddenly the map will tell you exactly where to go (Brighter tiles)
Edit: And where not to go: Mostly red tiles.

This thread has more chicken than Chick Fillet. :suicide:
I played for the first time in 1-2 months yesterday. Even though the performance improvements were small my frames are up at least 50% and I'd even say it's up 75%. I actually got more than 1 kill per hour, in fact I single handedly captured a base.
I ran this game without a problem and have spent hundreds of hours playing. Once they release this performance increase my game is going to run so smoothly.

Personally I think the flash SHOULD be slower than the harasser (certainly a harasser with the go faster chassis) but should have better handling from the get go and be better at cliff climbing.
I don't think the flash should be as capable on the straight up offensive as other vehicles but rather it's weapons be geared such that it can take positional advantage and attack from unexpected angles and places that are hard for people to attack it.
Like if a flash and a harasser go toe to toe out in the open of course that harasser should win. If a flash tries to take on a heavy it should only really have the same chance as any other infantryman attacking a heavy from the front.
But being able to slip round the back and come out from between narrow passageways and other such cover inaccessible to other vehicles and strike quickly, that's the kind of combat the flash should be able to perform.

The cost increase made me buy the flash less. The handling decrease made me like it even less.
When they made scout radar only function when the vehicle was occupied, I gave up. ~2500 certs blown on those.
Ye, I agree with pretty much all of that, except that the Harasser should be faster. The Flash shouldn't be a brawler by any means; it should just excel at being able to do quick strikes from the flanks, and be the undisputed king of ground vehicles for quickly zipping around and over obstacles. Right now it's more like the king's mentally disabled younger brother.

So this is pretty important.
this needs to be a thng

Part of my resoning was that the harasser is a bigger car with a bigger engine so I theory is SHOULD be faster flat out, on the flat. Although possibly only when it has the faster top speed chassis (and has poorer handling as a result)
Now when I say on the flat, I mean that if a Harasser were to drive uphill it would slow down, but the flash shouldn't slow down as much.

If the magrider had a thing that let it do a small hop I would be very happy.
did they ever optimize this
I'm getting at least 10+ extra FPS compared to what I used to get, and having way fewer frame spikes, to boot. If this is just the super minor stuff, I'm excited to see how the big one is going to impact my performance. I have an older machine, so I'll take whatever I can get.

Goddamit Tray.
Does anyone here know if they have any of the SC surveys or anything you can do anymore? I'm like 15 points short on an item and I really don't want to drop 5 bucks.
I kinda appreciate how they don't have the "buy more, pay less" when it comes to SC. It also makes me wonder why they don't allow you to buy any random amount of SC (probably because they think that no one will get more than 200 SC because they just want that one camo or gun, but I'd prefer buying a bit each time I find something interesting, which would probably result in me paying much more in the long run)

Being able to top up SC to whatever is is you're missing when trying to buy something would be nice.
Having set amounts that don't conveniently mesh up with in-game shop prices forces you to double dip in order to afford items, effectively making you buy more than you wanted just to get your money's worth. It's underhanded as heck.
[editline]4th November 2013[/editline]
SOE has a lot of dishonest little tricks like that. For instance, if you purchase a subscription, which comes with "free" station cash boosters each month, and then cancel the recurring charges, you retain all your membership benefits until your subscription expires, but immediately stop receiving your Station Cash. Like, if you buy a three month membership and tell them to cancel it in the first month, you will continue to receive your experience bonuses and whatnot until your subscription term runs out in three months, but you will only get that very first station cash boost, even though you already paid for three months' worth of them.
This pretty much ensures that the only way to get your money's worth out of your subscription is to wait until the narrow window between when you get your last station cash boost and your next automatic payment is deducted before canceling your subscription. This is an ugly and obvious ploy to try to inconvenience people into accidentally resubscribing or buying even more SC because they missed their window.

This kind of bullcrap is all over the industry and other subscription based systems for anything.
Not much we can do besides not subscribing until they change it.
I did enjoy the game enough to buy a 3 month membership happily played received my station cash but I forgot to unsub and it auto bought me another 3 months so I canceled the auto thing right after I noticed that money going out of my bank and then it told me that I would not be receiving all of that next lot of station cash. I was extremely angry that I had lost out on like 2 months of station cash and said I would never sub with them again.
Any word on possible triple station cash days coming up? That's the only way I'll dump any more money into this game.

I was actually pretty seriously considering subscribing until I found out about their little station cash trick. I said "eff it," because I know I'd forget to cancel my subscription in time. I won't subscribe until they change that policy.

I disagree with the practice too, but I also agree with the practice of reading the terms of a agreement before you agree and give someone money. I'm fairly sure the phrasing on the box in this situation is "500 sc each month while you remain subscribed" not "500sc each month while your subscription lasts". A pretty important distinction.
Sucks to be blindsided by it, but there was warning.

I did read everything the first time but I forgot that I was on a list to auto re sub. Naturally when a company takes money out of your account because you forgot to unsub you want to make sure it does not happen again and I had forgotten the bullshit within the terms and conditions. Sadly my assumption that I would receive everything as they took my fucking money was wrong.
That SC is more of a bonus for staying on their auto sub list and is a load of horse shit.
