So the NC sniper is now entirely useless. Or at-least the very first sniper anyway after a certain point. Seeing as the next sniper needs at-least 250 certs to acquire. 150 meters isn't very far at all. So to nerf the thing that badly. To me, seems like a terrible idea and makes the only class I even enjoy to play. A lot less fun.
Dude, it's the jam for mid-range sniping. Don't underestimate the power of an instant, guaranteed kill on a headshot when combined with the ability to cloak around. If you're sniping from 300m away, you're totally doing it wrong. Use your cloak to pop in and out of cover and go for headshots against closer targets and your kill count will skyrocket. Only stop moving for long enough to fire, and when hiding behind cover to let your cloak regen. I've had some ridiculous sprees using the regular ole default NC sniper for mid-ranged sniping like this.

I should certainly try that out.
you're pretty much a wasted team slot if you're stuck 200m+ away from the fight.
nvm 6X is the smallest scope for it :v:

If I wanted to engage targets that close. I could just as easily use a scoped assault rifle or similar. Negating my entire point of using a sniper rifle. I was fine as a sniper and did perfectly fine with default mechanics. This just inhibits those who wish to use a sniper AS a sniper. At-least the first sniper anyway for the NC. You are acting as if your playstyle is the only way. We each have our own. Well it may not inhibit the way you play. Others such as myself that actually use a sniper as a sniper. Will be.
I welcome the change to make it so bolt action headshots are always OHK now. The range thing is silly though - past 150m you pretty much don't headshot anyways unless the guy is standing really still and a super obvious target. If anything the only thing they need to do is make it so the bullet trails from bolt actions stay 2-3x as long as normal snipers, and that there is a moment of aiming instability when you first ADS. That way between shots you'll need to wait for your aim to stabilize some (might only need to take a second or so) before you can accurately pull off a longer range shot. Would give the semi-autos a nice bonus since they don't need to re-ADS after every shot. Boom you've made snipers much more risk/reward without being annoying or OP, and a sniper is also going to have to play more tactically (by moving around) to avoid being spotted in a game like Planetside due to the bullet trails lasting a bit longer. Also giving a noticable usability buff to semi-auto snipers since they won't have as long lasting bullet trails and don't need to reaim and restabilize their aim after every shot.

Most other games have systems in place that make long range sniping impossible or extremely dangerous. PS2 doesn't really have a good way to implement either of these controls.
So making them more useless is a good idea? Snipers can't even kill an immobile target firing an AV turret from a cliff against tanks now, and that's kinda a problem.
It's not the gun that makes the sniper useless, it's the playstyle. A sniper shooting from 200m+ is not capping objectives, hacking terminals, blowing up vehicles, or doing any of the other things necessary to win. They also aren't doing much for the team (especially snipers who don't spot things: they are 99% useless)

Simply because they don't expect it, I find it fun to be on my own behind enemy lines and witnessing troops moving out and so forth. I'm usually in the battle or close to. But sometimes I just prefer to pass an hour or two before work by going lone sniper. I guess it depends on playstyle.

And no controls on long sniping? Are you joking?
Holy shit, not sure if placebo or if I'm actually not lagging anymore.

And either way, the first sniper is not intended as an ultra-long range weapon. It is a mid-range sniper rifle. Slightly lower bullet velocity, faster reload, etc. It is geared towards use at ranges of around ~100m
Snipers are indisputably the most useless playstyle in the entire game, those long range plinkers at least. You actually contribute very little. And I play them a lot, for fun though.

B) Going to adjust the range of the headshot cap after spending some time to view its effects on the live server So cool your jets, dude!

Mid range I would class as 200-400 or so, and long range 400+ Regardless. It's a retarded change in my opinion. And I'm not a fan of it.

Patch PS2, first time in a while, spawn in, notice more stable fps, drop pod into action, get killed. UI doesn't load. Well, that's a wonderful second impression.
i5-4670K AMD 6950 1Gb 8GB ddr3. Got 100 fps in warpgate and 30-60 in big fights before the patch on high. CPU bottleneck. Now its 50-60 everywhere almost maxxed out. GPU Bottleneck. Good patch in my opinion. Everything feels smoother, and the UI more responsive as well.

You shoot once and they either spook and ditch the turret or they stay there and die from shot #2.
A big issue with sniping is not being able to move while shooting. You get a large (enough) bloom when moving about that you have to stand still, which seems unnecessary. I'm sure more will get done to improve all single shot rifles. Right now full-auto is the champion all over I feel. [editline]12th November 2013[/editline] A big issue for me, I suppose I should say.
I've never thought much of bolt action snipers honestly. I only ever get killed by them if I've gone afk to take a leak(anyone could kill me) or back when I started I got sniped a few times while grabbing a vehicle. Now I just take a quick scan around for snipers on the cliffs, figure out what I want and make grabbing a vehicle as quick as possible just in case.
Fuck snipers.
Just keep moving and be impressed if a sniper kills you.

[editline]12th November 2013[/editline] Like, I've heard a lot of weird complaints about balance issues so far, but snipers not being able to move while actively attempting to shoot a target without throwing off their aim is up there.
I don't really get the hate for long range snipers. You cannot kill targets that are not standing still, the only use is mid-range and I take it the "nerf" doesn't affect that? I don't really know how long 150m is ingame. [editline]12th November 2013[/editline] Also love the new small UI changes, it feels a little bit more futuristic.
I don't like the new health bar and shield bar, but I like most of the other changes to the UI.
I don't like the new health bar and shield bar, but I like most of the other changes to the UI.
to be honest I much prefer the new style. I fell it fits the game better than what we had before. It has a more sci-fi futury feel to it.
Looking forward to trying the patch out. Haven't played in months... time for a slow ass 8GB download, yay..
